UNISON Accept Government’s 5% Pay Rise Offer for NHS Staff

UNISON have accepted the government’s pay rise offer of 5% for NHS staff, with three quarters of the membership backing the deal this afternoon. They have now agreed to back down on further strike action. A win for the government…

UNISON Head of Health Sara Gorton said:

“Clearly health workers would have wanted more, but this was the best that could be achieved through negotiation. Over the past few weeks, health workers have weighed up what’s on offer. They’ve opted for the certainty of getting the extra cash in their pockets soon.”

All eyes are on nurses’ union RCN, which is expected to reject the same deal later this afternoon. The government will be happy to have contained the rises to match inflation only…

UPDATE: By 54% on a 61% turnout, RCN nurses rejected the pay offer that was accepted by UNISON.

Government spokesman says: “hugely disappointing that the RCN membership has rejected the pay deal recommended by their leadership… all parties agreed this was a fair and generous offer which is demonstrated by Unison, representing the largest share of the NHS workforce, choosing to accept it. The fact that the Royal College of Nursing has announced an escalation in strike action with no derogations, based on a vote from the minority of the nursing workforce, will be hugely concerning for patients.”

Taxpayers’ Alliance Funds Union Coffers

In recent days the UNISON union’s welfare fund has received a boost from a surprising source- the TaxPayers’ Alliance. The union-sceptic think tank made the donation after an error in reporting on their Trade Union Rich List. Guido doubts the “who funds you” brigade will hound the unions as much as they do the TPA…

They initially stated, incorrectly, that UNISON’s General Secretary Christina McAnea took home £225,891. In fact received a meagre £119,513 plus £12,756 in benefits, though some of her predecessor’s golden handshake was accidentally wrapped up in the TPA’s press-released figures. Tufton Street now funding unions: the Truss era’s truly over…

Left Wingers Blunder Over Prince’s Death

Following mass-criticism, Corbyn has now deleted the tweet he posted nine minutes after Prince Philip’s death, calling on followers to join him in a show of solidarity with Bolivia. Corbyn wasn’t the only member of the left to misstep over the Duke’s passing…

Guido has been sent screenshots from inside the Labour MPs’ office managers WhatsApp chat, in which Jay Glover (Alison McGovern’s office manager), described the forthcoming Commons Monday recall for tributes to the Prince as a “ninety minute circle jerk of what a great man he was…” Mohammad Yassin’s office manager Gen McMahon added “It’s going to be intolerable”. It was Lloyd Russell-Moyle’s manager, of all people, who reminded those shooting their mouths off that “it’s a large group”.

Nia Griffith MP, like Corbyn, also tweeted a now-deleted post, regarding a DVLA strike rally. Claudia Webbe is, by contrast, standing firm in her use of Prince Philip’s death to call on the government to “invest in young people, reopen youth provisions and youth centres everywhere”. Tactful.

Admittedly, no MP has been as outspoken as the West Berkshire branch of the Unison union, who upon hearing the news came out with:

They couldn’t even wait until he was buried…

UPDATE: 2 hours and 45 minutes later, Corbyn finally comes out with a statement:

Labour Candidate Arrested in Spanish Swimming Pool for Breaching Quarantine

The senseless British tourist seen being arrested in a Facebook video which has gove viral has been identified as Labour councillor, Unison staff member, and three time Labour Party parliamentary candidate, Joanne Rust. Last week she was dramatically arrested having been dragged from a swimming pool in Tenerife for breaching Spain’s strict hotels quarantine rules.

When questioned by MailOnline, she refused to apologise for her behaviour instead choosing to blame her tour operators for her “failed holiday in the Canary Islands”. Rust, who has stood for the Labour Party in North West Norfolk in the last three elections, spent a night in police custody following her arrest. She flew back to the UK over the weekend…

Labour Chair Defends ‘I Love Gang Rape’ Tweet Candidate

The chair of a local Labour branch has defended local candidate Daniel Gray who was suspended after tweeting “I love gang rape.” Matt Webb, the chair of Brighton Labour’s St Peter’s & North Laine branch claimed that “His only crime is being a Labour Party Socialist.” Webb apparently doesn’t see praising gang rape as problematic…

Schoolteacher Daniel Gray tweeted “I love gang rape” less than a month after a 14-year-old girl was raped in a local park. He also called singers Jessie J and Jess Glynne “a catsuit wearing c***” and a “cardboard ginger c***”, tweeted that his dental hygienist was a “patronising bitch” and wrote of pushing ahead of a “cow” with a pram on a train. Webb, who works for UNISON as an ‘education convener’, said ‘Gang Rape’ Gray has his “absolute support”…
