Fresh from shaming the bosses at Novara Media – who as of next week will be paying staff £16.50 per hour – as well as highlighting the low rates the Baker’s Union were paying, Guido has spotted the low rates of pay being offered by Momentum. The same Momentum which campaigns for £15 per hour pay.
By Guido’s calculations, an organisation offering paid holiday and lunch breaks for a typical 40 hour week has to pay a basic £31,200 annual salary to meet the generous £15 per hour rate that Momentum and other left-wing campaigns are demanding. The faction is seeking a Head of Communications with interviews commencing next month. Their advert specifies pay ranges with starting salaries of £29,765 with London weighting or £26,265 without London weighting. That works out at £14.26 for a Londoner or just £12.62 for someone from the provinces.
Clearly the high national minimum wage they campaign for is, in this case, some £5,000 above the market rate they think someone from out of London should start on. It is clear that their rhetoric of “£15 per hour” doesn’t match the reality of what they think they need to pay.
After booting out the hard left of the Labour Party, Starmer seemed keen to flex his woke credentials today on Good Morning Britain. When asked who his favourite Bond is, Sir Keir once again remained on the fence, claiming that while he doesn’t have a favourite, he does think it’s time Britain had “a female bond”. Is Angie up for another promotion?
Unfortunately for Sir Keir, it looks like he’s once again at odds with the mood of the country: YouGov polling shows that 53% of the country think a female Bond is “unacceptable“, with just 31% in favour. The Writing’s on The Wall…
The blanket injunction against Insulate Britain is, as expected, proving an abject failure: this morning the eco-mob blocked the motorway for the ninth time, grinding traffic to a halt once again. Furious commuters have been filmed confronting the radical environmentalist group, with one particularly impassioned driver yelling:
“Do you have any f*cking idea how much damage you sh*ts cause.”
The sooner these clowns are in an eco-friendly jail cell, the better…
The final dregs of Labour’s broadly disastrous (for the left) conference are still filtering through, with Guido discovering this fairly amusing clip of Richard Burgon parodying Neil Kinnock’s infamous 1985 Militant speech. The audience naturally lapped it up and for Burgon it was a decent performance. It does ring slightly hollow when, unlike Kinnock, Burgon and his merry band of deluded socialists are nowhere near the levers of Labour Party power. The punchline from Burgon did make Guido laugh…
During Sir Keir’s speech yesterday Guido counted at least 9 heckles from disgruntled party members. Today on LBC, Starmer addressed the issue of disunity in the Labour Party by telling Nick Ferrari:
“…the vast majority of the conference hall were with me and in fact they policed the hecklers. The line that I used, the one I think was probably the most powerful was saying ‘chanting slogans or changing lives’ and they’re the choices for the Labour Party. We changed this week to change lives and we’re leaving behind the chanting of slogans that get you no where.”
Despite the swooning of the pundits and the commentariat this morning, a conference dominated by infighting sees the Tory lead remain at 8 points ahead in the latest YouGov poll…
