Following the news last night that Boris is set to appoint former Aussie PM Tony Abbott as President of the Board of Trade, the current Australian Premier Scott Morrison has reacted with delight, telling reporters:
“Good hire! I think that’s a good hire… well done Boris”
The boost to Anglo-Australian relations comes just days after the new CANZUK-advocating Erin O’Toole was elected leader of the Canadian Tory Party who could be on the brink of election victory. Boris just needs to woo Jacinda Ardern and the CANZUK show can get on the road…
The former Australian Prime Minister has changed his mind on Brexit, now claiming that he is “quietly thrilled that the British people have resolved to claim back their country”. Tony Abbott had backed Remain because he thought Brexit would be bad for Europe, not the other way around. During a speech at the UK/Australia Chamber of Commerce he called for:
“an entirely seamless economic relationship based on free entry of goods, mutual recognition of services and standards, and easy entry of qualified people…. If a motor car could be registered in the UK, it should also be registrable in Australia… If a trade qualification was recognised in Australia, it should also be recognised here.”
He also called for free movement between the UK and Australia saying that Australians should no longer face passport queues at Heathrow. It’s never too late to be a Brexiteer..

Tory Cabinet ministers winced as former Australian PM Tony Abbott warned Europe must use “force” to “turn boats around” and “establish camps” for migrants last night. Though IDS eschewed the black tie dress code for a photo-acceptable navy number.
UKIP’s representatives were put on the “Leon Brittan” table, though Suzanne Evans was spared an awkward evening by fortuitously being seated several tables away. Jim Davidson was uncharacteristically restrained during his speech, a rare occasion where he was not the most controversial speaker. He was followed by Jeffrey Archer, who managed to help raise £50,000 in a matter of minutes from donors in the room. “Unlike you, we now control our borders,” was the key message from Down Under…
