One minister didn’t get the memo. Kirsty McNeill is hosting an election night “Come on Kamala” Rally on November 5th with the Labour Women’s Network. “Labour For Kamala” badges have been produced to distribute to staffers. The event’s advert says:
“Before the results start to come in and the chaos begins, join LWN and special guests including Kirsty McNeill, MP for Midlothian and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland and Amy Lamé, broadcaster, performer and outgoing London Night Czar, for an evening of analysis, predictions, taking in the moment and cheering on Kamala.”
Failed London Night Tsar Lamé is jumping back into politics after leaving her politically restricted post in City Hall at the end of October. That must be why only 18 people have bothered to RSVP…

Sadiq Khan’s disastrous “Night Tsar” Amy Lamé is taking it easy after miraculously recovering from “unplanned sick leave” and immediately going on holiday in August. She returned to work this month, just in time for yesterday’s 3-hour meeting of the GLA Economy, Culture and Skills Committee meeting on the capital’s night-time economy. And yet Lamé was – you guessed it – not present…
As night-time businesses shutter up at a rate of about a thousand per year some Assembly Members are trying to figure out what to do. Their meeting took views and evidence from numerous interested parties as part of the committee’s investigation into “the impact of existing Mayoral policies and initiatives aimed at supporting and invigorating London’s night-time economy, and what progress the Mayor has made in achieving his vision of London becoming a ’24-hour city’.” You’d have thought Lamé would be interested – was she too busy picking up her £133,000 pay cheque?

This leave is said to have been going on for at least six weeks with no return in sight. Yet, miraculously, she’s still managing to present her BBC Radio 6 shows every Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the latest data shows that pubs and clubs continue to close at a startling rate, with 3,011 nighttime businesses shuttering up since the pandemic.
