The London Mayor flew off the handle and ignored all pleas to answer the question, instead going on in half-complete sentences about the LibDems going into coalition in 2010. Khan has of course repeatedly pushed for the cap to be scrapped with constant moaning press releases. He even said last year he would lobby Keir Starmer on the subject. Now his words actually matter it’s “shout until it goes away”…
Extinction Rebellion founder Roger Hallam and his Just Stop Oil accomplices who brought the M25 to a standstill have been given record sentences in Southwark Crown Court just now. Judge Christopher Hehir didn’t hold back in his summary:
“The plain fact is that each of you some time ago has crossed the line from concerned campaigner to fanatic. You have appointed yourselves as sole arbiters of what should be done about climate change.”
The grizzled eco-terrorist veteran, one of those who climbed a gantry on the motorway near Heathrow in November 2022, has been jailed for a whopping five years. Just Stop Oil activists, who call those sentenced the “Whole Truth Five“, cheered and said “We love you” as the offenders arrived to be sentenced. Fat lot of good that did them…
Business Insider reports this week that Microsoft has laid off its entire internal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team. One laid-off team leader says “DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020“. In the flurry of performative wokeism following George Floyd protests…
Microsoft joins Zoom, Google, and Meta in cutting costs on useless woke hires. On the other side of the pond, though, the UK’s gargantuan civil service is starting to offer pay rises for saying inclusive things and expanding the very DEI teams cut by the private sector. Go woke go broke…
Starmer addressed the European Political Community summit at Blenheim Palace with a thinly veiled hymn of praise to the EU and vowed never to leave the ECHR:
“We are resetting our approach here… we will never withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights.”
Naturally, Starmer’s cosying up to EU leaders is being welcomed by arch-remainers – many of whom want the UK to rejoin the Union itself:
It is oddly startling to hear these words coming from a British Prime Minister. And also great. https://t.co/hEwtsja46H

The EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, meanwhile chimed in:
“The new Labour Government has signalled its intention to reset its relationship with the European Union and to seek more structured co-operation with the EU in the field of foreign, security and defence policies. We welcome the new tone of the British Government and we look forward to engaging with it. We are ready to reinforce our foreign and security policy co-operation.”
By their friends ye shall know them…
Liz Truss complained to Cabinet Secretary Simon Case yesterday after an official civil service briefing document contained numerous attacks on the mini-budget – it was described as “disastrous” in an official king’s speech pack. A political position…
The civil service removed and re-issued the document yesterday. Now Truss wants to know how it happened, who was involved, and whether there is an investigation ongoing, among other things. She also demands that existing physical copies be “pulped“. Not letting up…

While European leaders huddle for photos and exchange warm words at Blenheim Palace, some less relevant politicians are feeling left out. Senior SNP MSP Clare Adamson has vocalised her Fear Of Missing Out:
“47 different countries have been invited to the European Political Community summit – they will all have the opportunity to represent their interests in key areas such as energy, defence, and migration. Scotland has a key role to play in each of these issues, yet we will have no voice at this vital summit. This is despite over half of the independent nations attending having similar or a smaller population than Scotland.“
Guido’s not sure the SNP have quite realised the criteria for attending an international summit of states. Embarrassing…
Speaking at his speech on how to achieve “progressive capitalism” Wes Streeting fired a dig and Andy Burnham:
“Bond markets are not bond villains and fiscal rules matter.”
