Andy Burnham’s team has already hit back after Starmer said this morning that he wants Burnham to have a big role in government. A source in the Burnham camp told the Manchester Evening News that “the benefit Andy has is the wind of change for not having been associated with the Government’s failings.”
They also said that movement prior to the Manchester mayoral election would be ideal seeing as Starmer remaining in post would “give people ‘an excuse to vote against Labour.” Bullish noises…
Speaking at his speech on how to achieve “progressive capitalism” Wes Streeting fired a dig and Andy Burnham:
“Bond markets are not bond villains and fiscal rules matter.”
