At the conference in Harrogate a motion was passed stating that the current 2.8% pay award for teachers in England for September is “inadequate and unfunded.” Delegates have called for the NEU executive to push forward a strike ballot if “the final outcome of the STRB process remains unacceptable or if the Government does not announce real-terms funding increases in the June spending review.” The School Teachers’ Review Body recommendations are still to come…
Meanwhile Unite general secretary Sharon Graham tells LBC today that bin strikes could spread across the country: “If other councils decide to make low-paid workers pay for bad decisions that they did not make, workers paying the price yet again, then absolutely, of course, we all have to take action in those other areas.” The unions are back…
