Guardian’s Bid for Smear of the Year

Polly Toynbee, or her Guardian sub, has found the culprit responsible for the deaths of young children at their hands of their parents: the Tories of course! Apparently Baby P and Hamzah Khan’s deaths can be blamed on “Tory vandalism”, Michael Gove to be specific. Just the one problem. Aside from Polly ignoring the role of you know, the parents, or even social workers, teachers and doctors, both Baby P and Hamzah Khan died under a Labour government. And this from a paper that moralises about rival’s ethics.

    JH9324092309432904 says:

    Oh, do fuck off Polly.

Stories like this seem to escape your radar. How deafeningly silent you are.

Imagine if some horrendously white men had kidnapped and rap_d a muslim girl – der der! Get the 24/7 ticker tape ready! Synchronize watches with the BBC! Go! Go! Go! Publish a Saint Steven article, quick!

  7. 7

Guardian’s only saving grace here is this is a CIF piece, not editorial.

But still – I wouldn’t shed a tear if they stopped lining her pockets to write bullshit.

The phone hacking which happened under Labour was also no doubt the Tories’ fault, as was the collapse of the banks through Brown’s idiotic regulations (120% mortgages – no problem) and the deaths in Mid-Staffs NHS hospital.

  11. 11
    average joanna says:

The Guardian never lets the facts get in the way

If someone else had written the article and blamed Labour – you can bet the PCC would have had loads of complaints.

But because its Polly and about Gove – it will be ignored and she gets away with it.

Shameful article really because it totally ignores the real failures of the system organisation.

How many people actually buy the Guradian these days; just for comaprison DM ~ 2 million copies sold and ~ 4 million readers a day on its website. Can someone confirm but I read that the DM website is the most read webiste in the UK.

How many middle class bedwetters are there that read the Guardian to assuage their guilt !!

According to Channel 4 the best chance of Brexit is to vote Labour. So why not just vote for UKIP?

The Tories (under Cameron) will make damned sure any referendum will end up with us staying in the EU. Surely everybody knows this?

  20. 20
    Hugh Janus says:

Treason, certainly, but I don’t think it is an offence to employ morons. If it were then we could have a field day with the House of Commons.

  21. 21
    Owen Jones says:

Its all Thatchers fault! This would never have happened if it were for Thatcherism..

  22. 22
    Yeah, right.... says:

No, it’s true. Really. And, I read in today’s Guardian, Michael Gove creeps into children’s bedrooms at night and steals the money left under the pillow by the tooth fairy.

These tories really do sound quite beastly.

  23. 23
    JH9324092309432904 says:

More to the point, how many actually pay for it.

Most are probably delivered to staff rooms and council headquarters free of charge to remind the drones of their lines-to-take at the next dinner party or staff meeting.

Just to point out to all Guardian readers in case you have forgotton ; all the journalists, Coulson, Brookes etc are all being charged under existing laws.

Just for the record The News of the World did not kill Millie Dowler a career criminal did. The Surrey police were appalling and if they hadn’t been obsessed with Bob Dowler and a couple of porn mags they would have caught Bellfield sooner and prevented him killing two other women.

The Tory reforms of the Health system, supposedly to bring Health and Adult Social Care closer together but in reality it is having precisely the opposite effect as the PCT’s fragment in to CCG’s and the joint funded teams scatter to the four winds etc, is making the likelihood of abuse etc. not being spotted much higher. HOWEVER, until such cases occur, it is a bit rich to blame the Govt for this, let alone Gove, however odious I find him and this Govt in general, she is clearly barking on this one.

  33. 33
    Orson Cart says:

As one would expect from A-Gurn-Aid, no mention of on whose watch these happened.

  34. 34
    Isn't this treason? says:

Is this an attempt by The Guardian to divert attention away

    soldiers at risk.

  35. 35
Vote UKIP - don't get owned says:

Toynbee’s entertaining for her tribal loyalty, it was a laugh a minute as she tried to promote Gordon Brown.

But this time she’s gone too far, mistakenly using dead children. This is pure depravity and how the Guardian let it through the editorial process is odd.

  51. 51
    FFS says:

My mum runs a newspaper shop and tells me that hardly anybody buys the Guardian and the few that do are over 70.

  71. 71
    FFS says:

I have to say that Toynbee’s disgusting tripe carefully disguises the fact that these children were in fact the subject of contact with social services but social services failed to do anything to protect them.

Far be it from me to suggest that these children “that bruise easily” should be placed with foster carers for 6 months just as a check to see if “bruising easily” is a plausible explanation. After all, that would appear to be a draconian and rather right-wing approach wouldn’t it?

So..the headline is bollox. The story is double bollox. But their is a suggestion that cuts might put children at risk.

How different is the inaccurate, untrue, poorly researched headline

It is the Baby Ps and Hamzah Khans who pay for this Tory vandalism

Social services is not the fault. Social services have to be assumed to be incompetent. The type of people that it attracts will never be able to understand all situations.

The fault is with our inability to demonstrably punish the offenders. The fault is also with every form of our society from teachers to the police.

The problem is that we have created a situation that the informant is the one that has most to lose. Suspicion is always placed on their motives for rocking the boat. My experience of taking an issue, that had caused the death of a child, to the authorities cost me dearly. I was not even in the country when the death occurred. Yet I was the only one to suffer. But when it happened again they all closed ranks. They then threatened me if I dare mention it. The threat was from a government agency via a major UK solicitor.

Don’t forget that fat Polly also sent her kids ot posh schools, just like Hattie Hatemenperson did as well.

None of those inner city shitholes that Alistair Campbell was so proud of for Labour *hores

  124. 124
    My Auntie's a leftie says:

Did anyone notice the Beeb poll on council cuts which found that most people believed services had improved, despite the budget slashing? HA HA!
Not quite the answers they were looking for, so of course it was pushed right down the news agenda.

  125. 125

  129. 129
    Vlad the Loudhailer says:

Hasn’t the Guardian just announced that it is going to continue to publish Snowden’s stolen secrets. Shouldn’t the government confiscate all copies that detail these? Three days of no Guardian sales would kill it and the tripe that Tuscan Polly writes.

  130. 130
    Biased Broadcasting Corporation says:

Don’t worry I got done for suggesting the SWP was just a left wing version of the B&P

  133. 133
    Anal Rubbisher says:

You have to admire Polly’s spirited defence of her article
“the headline writer has made my entirely sensible article sound like the spittle flecked ravings of a rabid socialist.
I was merely pointing out that Michael Gove is a child killer – surely no one could disagree with that.”

  134. 134
Lady Virginia Droit de Seigneur says:

The Guardian really have gone into Orwell mode. When you call up the article the BTL comments that appear are those handpicked by the editorial staff rather than a chronological listing of all comments as is usually the case.

The selected comments total about 6 out of the 600 that have been made and include none of the huge number pointing out that the headline is a lie and that the deaths referred to occurred in Labour boroughs under a Labour government. Nor do they include any of the large number pointing out how sickening it is for the mad old bag to use these deaths to promote political partisanship.

They do however include a comment by CiF editor Libby Brooks justifying the headline saying that it refers to deaths like these rather than those two particular deaths themself. Even sghe must see that this is a load of bullsh*t.

Interesting to see if the BBC gets involved in the same way as it did in the Mail

  135. 135
Lady Virginia Droit de Seigneur says:

Libby Brooks is BTL justifying the headline.

    They really are cnuts.

  137. 137
    Biased Broadcasting Corporation says:

Police, teachers, doctors, social workers. The people we pay plenty of money to in order to protect the most vulnerable people in society. The so-called ‘caring’ professions (as opposed to those evil people who work in the private sector making money.) Apparently it’s beyond any of them to recognise a child who is being regularly beaten or starved to death, or if they do, to stop it. And they still keep their jobs and pensions, otherwise they’d be suing for compensation.

  138. 138
    well there's a surprise says:

@50; Roy Greenslade seriously suggested a while back that internet copy should be taxed in order to subsidise the printed press.
He’s a ‘professor of journalism’ who writes frequently for the Guardian. He also has written for the IRA newspaper under a false name, some of his family members being senior figures in the organisation.

  143. 143
    Peter Martin says:

Factual inaccuracy and ideologically-motivated stitching up like that, and the BBC will at the very least have to shunt her daily pulpit to the outer reaches of the Ian ‘et tu’ Katz Muppet show for a few weeks. Assuming even they will have her now.

Those guys now have standards. As many as you like.

Haringey Council Social Services PR Dept says:

We have been made aware that we make many people’s piss boil when we employ trite, hackneyed, thoughtless drivel such as ‘lessons have been learned’ in the wake of tragic cases that could have been avoided were we less incompetent.

It creates the impression that we are just a bunch of time serving drones more interested in what we can extract from the public purse than what we can contribute through our so called ‘professions’.

Lessons have been learned from this, and we will take these into account with our procedures moving forward.

    Thank you.

Actually Holland Park was the very first Comprehensive, declaring as such in 1958, but it was very selective in its admissions, picking up the cream of the leftie’s kids–young Benns, young Jenkins and assorted sprogs of artists, poets, actors, musicians and professional agitators. Far more interesting is that in Polly’s time a very successful call-girl ring was operated from the school by the 5th and 6th form girls catering mainly to the diplomatic set and civil service clientele.

Using dead kids to smear your opponents – classy!!

  169. 169
    John says:

One would think that Michal Gove might have considered complaining to the PCC and instructing m’learned friends, but I suspect they have already taken the view that LaToynbee has become so utterly rabid that it would be better electorally to leave her in place, writing her nonesense and supporting Ed Miliband fervently.

She is an electoral asset to the Tories.

  170. 170

Ed says he wants to bring back socialism.
I feel it’s important to point out the the difference between socialism and the plague is that the plague killed people indiscriminately. So, I would rather take my chances with a country ridden with plague than have socialism back in power in 2015.

Boris on British Jihadis. Apparently based on MI5 intel:

“If you look at all the psychological profiling about bombers, they typically will look at porn. They are literally w***ers. Severe onanists. They are tortured. They will be very badly adjusted in their relations with women, and that is a symptom of their feeling of being failures and that the world is against them. They are not making it with girls, and so they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort — which of course is no comfort.”
