Benn the Banker

“Ordinary people are being forced to pay for the bankers’ profligacy” screamed Tony Benn in 2010. “This government of millionaires says “we’re all in it together” and “there is no alternative”. But, for the wealthy, corporation tax is being cut, the bank levy is a pittance, and top salaries and bonuses have already been restored to pre-crash levels.” It seems his Oxford educated granddaughter got the message. Guido wishes Emily the very best of luck in the Equity Sales and Trading department at UBS…

My son with the female name upheld family honour by protecting our land from erosion when he was Minister of the Environment. Learnt it all from me. I sometimes speak sense, I am told.

          • Tony Benn says:

It was right that my stately home was protected from the ravages of nature and that some lower class oiks humble hovels sacrificed in exchange. If a son cannot do his family duty, then what has this world become?

Hard to maintain that Lansley messed up NHS refoorm when he was saying this 10 years ago:

We want hospitals to set their own pay, decide their own IT, own their own land and borrow their own money.

The man from down under told us how the centre right had made healthcare their own issue by reforming the national system and extending private health insurance to cover 45% of the population

    He even mentions this survey:

The suicide rate increases under Conservative governments, research suggests.

      Regan MacNeil says:

The Labour Party had 13 years to construct a NHS you should have been proud of, but they didn’t. Mao, Stalin, Brezhnev, Blair, Mandelson & Brown all spent on borrowed money, lvide lavishly and lined their own pockets at the expense of the very people they were supposed to be serving.

Now you are moaning the the Tories have been forced to make cuts and fix the economy because as Labour Treasury chief secretary Liam Byrne told his successor, ‘I’m afraid to tell you there’s no money left’.

YES – THE NHS AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS ABOUT MONEY

If money was no object. it would be lovely to have endless drugs for the sick and lots of lovely new flats for the dispossessed of Darfur, but it is not and we don’t.

I truly sympathise with tour condition and I wish you as good health as is possible in the future, but the UK is currently spending £450 million a day more than it earns.

As you say, you have no assets, so who is going to pay for all the NHS you desire?

You will have to face the fact that every socialist administration in history has run out of money and made the poor poorer.

      • 99
        Regan MacNeil says:

The increasing suicide rate under conservative governments probably from having to face up to reality after the debt fuelled illusion of the “end of boom and bust” under socialist leaders.

MacDonald, Attlee, Willson/Callahan, Blair/Brown, all ended in economic disaster

        Socialists make the poor poorer.

Tom Harris bemoans the public’s attitude to politicians…

“Mr Oborne echoes the lazy, anti-politics whine we hear so often these days, all based on the absurd notion that politicians were once loved and only fell out of public favour during the expenses scandal. He should take a walk to the Strangers’ Bar. But not to sup with the patrons he seems to despise so much, dearie me, no; he should instead look at the paintings on the corridor outside the bar, which depict the devastating fire which consumed most of the Palace in 1834. And he should reflect on the fact that on that dramatic night, as the Commons went up in flames, a crowd gathered on the South Bank to clap and cheer.”
