NHS England has finally told hospitals and GP surgeries to segregate wards, loos, and changing rooms by biological sex – 18 months after the Supreme Court ruled in April 2025 that sex under the Equality Act means biological sex. Remember when NHS England was ‘abolished’ by Labour?
The new guidance states: “Single-sex services, such as hospital accommodation, should be provided on the basis of biological sex.” It adds that “trans people… should be accommodated in line with their sex as registered at birth,” with single rooms offered where necessary. It scraps the old NHS line that trans people could use whichever facilities they preferred…
Soon after the ruling, then Health Secretary Wes Streeting promised guidance “in the coming weeks”. One way of putting it…
The rules cover patients and staff alike and trusts now have to audit their facilities to check they comply. 18 months and well-publicised tribunals later…
Former Labour leader Neil Kinnock was asked if Burnham will take Britain back into the EU:
“Yes, sure – his commitment is authentic. He really does understand from the grassroots up why restoring what I think of as normality in our continent is vital for every party economically, politically, culturally, in terms of security, and he’s able to articulate it in language that people can understand. So yeah, he is definitely”.
