Polanski attended a Jewish community hustings in Holborn and St Pancras. He managed to blame Jewish people for being attacked:
“I think we need to separate anti-Semitism from criticism of the Israeli state, and I think far too often those things become conflated.
and I don’t think we can pit our Jewish safety against the safety of the Palestinians, for instance. And I worry far too often, in our national discourse, that happens.
Many genocide scholars around the world recognise it [the war in Gaza] as a genocide and calling it that is not anti-Semitic.
And I think, I think as a Jewish community, we need to come together to recognise that when we call that anti-Semitic, we are making ourselves as Jewish people less safe.”
He was heckled as he described himself as an anti-Zionist and described Israeli action in Gaza as genocide. The Greens, meanwhile, are pulling people out of their party conference to campaign for the leader in Starmer’s old seat…
Asked by Lobby hacks about his past comments on Trump (“any UK politician who gave Trump the time of day should be ashamed right now”) Burnham was blithe:
“Politicians say things throughout their career, but now the important thing is to focus on the moment you are in.”
Were it so easy…
