Rachel Reeves is giving a speech explaining why the budget is going to come back for more tax rises. No Chancellors do this with so few days before their budgets…
She tweeted a few minutes ago:
“The Budget this month will focus squarely on the priorities of the British people: cutting waiting lists, cutting the national debt and cutting the cost of living.
Today I will set out the choices our country faces and the values that will guide my decisions.”
Reeves reaching for the NHS panic lever is instructive. Winter is coming…
UPDATE:
Speaking at the Confederation of British Industry conference, CBI boss Rain Newton-Smith warned Reeves:
“This Budget is about credibility and about trust. You will never be able to tax your way to growth. Growth, not taxes, is the only way out of decline, and that starts with business.”
