Miliband’s sanctions in brief:
- An import ban on all goods produced in illegal West Bank settlements. Implemented within ‘six to nine months’…
- A package targeting companies and individuals providing construction, infrastructure, financing or real estate services for settlement expansion.
- A “double lock” on arms exports. All licence applications for arms and other exports materially contributing to the ‘occupation’ will be refused, for as long as the occupation persists.
- The official position of the British Government is now that the ‘occupation of Palestinian territory’ is “unlawful“.
- The Government agrees there is “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians in areas of the West Bank, perpetrated by settler terrorists.
- Coordinated with France and Canada, both announcing import bans today. Following the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Spain and Norway.
- Sanctions on Lebanon’s financing arm also announced.
- Trade with green line Israel continues. Miliband says he “wholeheartedly oppose the boycott, divestment, sanctions, or BDS, campaign“.
Burnham still hasn’t spoken to Netanyahu. And privately, British diplomats are trying to convince the US this package is nothing to worry about. Good luck with that…
