Badenoch is introducing Claire Coutinho, who is backing costings from the Tory think tank Onward on scrapping Britain’s net zero targets and diversifying the energy mix. Hint: It saves a lot of money…
Onward points out:
“Britain had the highest industrial electricity prices of IEA member countries in 2024, and the second highest household prices, behind Germany. Since 2005, UK electricity prices have risen by more than 130% in real terms, and electricity consumption has fallen by 21%. Household electricity bills could fall by £200 a year by 2035 if Britain abandons Clean Power 2030, removes carbon taxes and uses a diversified mix of nuclear, renewables and gas.”
The think tank says £320 billion could be saved over 20 years under the plans. Paging Miatta Fahnbulleh…
Lord Khan in the Telegraph: “I hope, and I say this in a non-pompous way, that the public service I do will bring rewards in this world and the hereafter,” he says. “I’m hoping the work I do is earning me Brownie points.”
