The government has been temporarily blocked from the planned ‘virtual signing’ of the Chagos giveaway today after an injunction was granted by a High Court Judge. Mr Justice Goose granted “interim relief” to Chagossian Bertrice Pompe who brought the case against the Foreign Office:
“The defendant shall take no conclusive or legally binding step to conclude its negotiations concerning the possible transfer of the British Indian Ocean Territory, also known as the Chagos Archipelago, to a foreign government or bind itself as to the particular terms of any such transfer.”
The court will hear the case at 10:30 this morning…
UPDATE: The court rules the government can sign the Chagos surrender deal. Reform MP Richard Tice is outside the court cheered on by protesters…
Sarah Pochin at Reform Scotland’s manifesto launch event: “I really wanted to come on in a Reform tartan burka, but apparently I wasn’t allowed… One day let’s do one of these events not live-streamed. We’ll do all the naughty stuff…”
