UK to Finally Join CPTPP mdi-fullscreen

Peru has now ratified the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. Being the sixth member, it means we are now finally set to formally join. Over 99% of current UK goods exports to members will be tariff-free once the deal enters into effect. It will boost the UK economy by a stonking £1.8 billion – and that’s only the start…

After a 21-month negotiating period under the Tories the agreement will officially enter into force by 15th December 2024. Taking the value of the trading partnership from £9 trillion to £11 trillion…

An official 2023 report found CPTPP investment accounted for:

  • Over £240 billion in turnover in London, £35 billion in the South East and £18 billion in the East of England.
  • The creation of 26,000 jobs in 2021 and 2022.
  • 75% of all employment in CPTPP-owned businesses was outside of London.
  • One in 50 jobs in the North East.
  • One in every 25 jobs in the manufacturing sector.

The deal will now come into force with each extra member in real time as they ratify. Remainers, including one sitting in Downing Street, will be heartbroken…
