Starmer addressed the European Political Community summit at Blenheim Palace with a thinly veiled hymn of praise to the EU and vowed never to leave the ECHR:
“We are resetting our approach here… we will never withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights.”
Naturally, Starmer’s cosying up to EU leaders is being welcomed by arch-remainers – many of whom want the UK to rejoin the Union itself:
It is oddly startling to hear these words coming from a British Prime Minister. And also great. https://t.co/hEwtsja46H

The EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, meanwhile chimed in:
“The new Labour Government has signalled its intention to reset its relationship with the European Union and to seek more structured co-operation with the EU in the field of foreign, security and defence policies. We welcome the new tone of the British Government and we look forward to engaging with it. We are ready to reinforce our foreign and security policy co-operation.”
