Ofcom has today launched an investigation into whether Nigel Farage should be counted as a ‘politician’. Their spokesman says in relation to a show last month:
“We are investigating whether this programme broke our rules requiring news and current affairs to be presented with due impartiality, and preventing politicians from acting as news presenters.”
If Nigel is designated by Ofcom as a politician it would make it almost impossible for him to host his regular 7 p.m. show. Under Ofcom rules, “No politician may be used as a newsreader, interviewer or reporter in any news programmes unless, exceptionally, it is editorially justified. In that case, the political allegiance of that person must be made clear to the audience.” These are the rules that led to GB News getting a slap on the wrist for having Tory MPs Esther McVey and Philip Davies interview the Chancellor…
A source close to Farage tells Guido this is a “dirty tricks campaign” and adds: “Given that everyone in Westminster is currently obsessing over whether Nigel will return to politics, Ofcom are barking up the wrong tree with this one”. Even ITV called him an “ex-politician” for I’m a Celebrity…
