The NUS has had its fair share of dodgy presidents. After a few years of relative moderation, the Labour finishing school has been reverting to its madcap 70s roots, banning Hope Not Hate coordinator Nick Lowles for being Islamophobic, defending the Millbank rioters, and ordering LGBT societies to get rid of gay male representatives as they “do not face oppression”.

Today they elected their new president. Here are Malia Bouattia’s greatest hits:

• Spoke at an event alongside Leila Khaled, a terrorist hijacker, in which Bouattia used her platform to defend armed struggle. She also lashed out against the “mainstream Zionist led media outlets” at the same event.

• Spearheaded the successful attempt to scrap an NUS motion that condemned ISIS, on the grounds that the motion was “islamophobic”.

• Has been suspected of having links with MPAC, a radical “Muslim civil liberties group with focus on non-violent Jihad”. She was even endorsed by one of their prominent members over social media.

• She called her own university “something of a Zionist outpost” because Birmingham has one of the biggest Jewish societies in the country.

• Claimed the EU’s definition of anti-semitism is “ominous”.

• Received an open letter from Jewish societies in 48 universities, demanding she explain the numerous allegations of anti-Semitism levelled at her.

She has even been congratulated by the radical Jihadi John apologists at CAGE:
