In a unlikely turn of events, lifelong anti-imperialist Jeremy Corbyn has called for direct rule to be imposed on former British colonies. Asked whether he thinks the Cayman Islands – which was governed as part of the Colony of Jamaica until 1962 when they became a separate Crown colony – should face direct rule, Corbyn said:
“I don’t have a problem with that. They’re British Crown dependent territories therefore surely there has to be an observance of UK tax law.”
