The UK gives £280 million a year to India in aid. They in turn give $5 billion a year to Africa. As Guido highlighted last week, they also have an aircraft carrier and a space programme, unlike the UK. Andrew Mitchell signalled that this would be coming to an end last weekend, but yesterday the Commons Development Committee weighed in, saying that the UK/India aid relationship must “fundamentally change” and also that aid to India should end by 2015. Guido thinks that’s a slightly mealy-mouthed way of saying get rid of it.
