Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, the BBC understands.
The married 46-year-old Leicestershire North West MP is believed to have been arrested in central London in the early hours of Thursday.
The backbench MP and former businessman, who entered Parliament last year, is accused of assaulting a 29-year-old woman, the BBC understands.
He was not charged and has been released on police bail, sources said.
Political career
Bridgen was selected as prospective parliamentary candidate for North West Leicestershire for the 2010 general election.
In May 2009 he intervened in the “dirty tricks row” involving a councillor who had offered Conservative backing to ensure a village hall was built if an independent election candidate stood down.[4] Bridgen blamed “intransigence of certain unelected individuals at the very top of the county council” rather than the individual councillors involved.[4] Both Labour and Conservative council leaders criticised his intervention and the Council solicitor wrote to ask for an explanation.[4] There was a police investigation and although he denied wrongdoing one of the councillors subsequently stood down.[5]
Bridgen was elected[6] on the 6th May as the first Conservative MP for the area in thirteen years. The seat had been vacant after the previous MP, David Taylor, died of a sudden heart attack on Boxing Day, 2009.
In June 2011, he attacked critics of Andrew Lansley’s controversial proposed NHS reforms by claiming that anyone who opposed them was guilty of “Stalinist protectionist elements”.[7].
So McClegg and Wet Dave are intent on following Dave’s multi billion pound give away scheme. The Government still hiding 20% of our energy bill is being spent on greeny waster ideas such as wind farms, which are private companies and should raise funds through banks, share holders etc.

Yet he is till prepared to help India and Pakistan’s war machine and space programmes, as well as nuclear programmes that cause us so much fear in the hands of some of their citizens.
Mitchell, his cohort, needs to be committed because he thinks the public will rejoice at being a hand out super power and thinks we will celebrate the status as much as the Queen or army. And they think some of the Middle East tyrants are mad!!!

cat’sugly head.Actually India is one of the very few Countries I don’t mind giving money to, why shouldn’t they have a space programme? It shows they want to better themselves and not just be a dumping ground of shit industries no one else wants.
We should be asking why we in the UK don’t have a space programme like NASA, NASA costs 16 billion dollars a year to run, that’s about 10 billion pounds.
We spend 200 billion on benefits to fucking bone idle scum and 100 billion is wasted on the NHS. We spend 4 billion on the fucking BBC for fucks sake.
A space programme would turn our universities into the finest in the world, we’d create thousands of REAL jobs (remember much of NASA’s work is done by the private sector) and the benefits would be huge.
Don’t forget the UK was the first in the world with a nuclear power plant at Calder Hall in 1956. By now we should be a world leader in this technology with other countries queuing up to buy great British engineering. Thousands of top jobs for bright British graduates and skilled technicians and the UK respected as we once were for innovation and expertise.
Instead what do we get: Labour tossers hosing our money away on parasitic welfare seekers, diversity and outreach pests, multicultural bullshit, identity cards and cameras everywhere, a fantastically wasteful health system and social engineering of every useless description imaginable.
We are buying nuclear technology from the French, of all people. As Blair was crowing about this amazingly clever bit of humiliation the last remaining UK nuclear company was being sold to Toshiba. Labour truly are the hypocritical and incompetent scum of the political earth.
Now we get the technological ignoramus Huhne trying to cover the entire country in inefficient and expensive windmills to be paid for out of the pockets of anyone who dares to buy electricity from power plants that actually work. Our servicemen are dying because of outdated and the wrong type of kit e.g. the Nimrod crash in Afghanistan and the many deaths in snatch landrovers. We can only operate 4 army apaches in Libya, operating off a RN ship, cobbling a limited offencsive capability. The RN is reduced to renting a ship to help in the protection of the Falklands, I kid you not, HMS Protector. Look it up on the net. Just a few examples where the govt have got it wrong. The first, first, duty of any govt is defence of the realm not giving away nearly 14 billion pounds of tax payers money to countries that are running their own nuclear programmes. I makes me sick.

Our previous and present Governments are obsessed with all things foreign, including our £10 billion net giveaway to the EU. It is absolutely essential that Britain gives oodles of moolah to India in order to persuade the politically powerful Mr Tata and Mr Mittal to build slightly cleaner steel mills in India and gain £800 million in carbon credits, they can then buy up and close British steel mills and gain another £600 million in carbon credits.
This is only fair and just as Mr Tata and Mr Mittal are known to be struggling third world businessmen who just want to make a better life for their people.
