Khan Breaks Fourth Election Promise in Six Months mdi-fullscreen

During the Mayoral election, Sadiq Khan time and time again vowed he would deliver 50% affordable housing on every new development. He promised he would implement this “on day one”. The manifesto pledge is still up on his website:

“Sadiq will set a target for 50 per cent of all new homes in London to be genuinely affordable.”

Yesterday Khan released his Supplementary Planning Guidance detailing how councils should deal with planning applications. His new policy is that he hopes to convince developers to voluntarily meet a target of 35% affordable housing, in return for a quicker consideration of their application. No mention of the 50% target whatsoever. Khan has already broken manifesto promises on travel fares, trees and green energy – this is is fourth broken promise since taking office…
