Guardian Elitism

Worrying report in the Guardian today that Britain is “deeply elitist” because people educated at public school and Oxbridge have in effect created a “closed shop at the top”, according to a study by the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission. The study of the social background of those “running Britain” was the most detailed of its kind ever undertaken and showed that elitism was so embedded in Britain “that it could be called ‘social engineering’.” Terrible…

The Guardian’s editor Alan Rusbridger (Cranleigh and Magdalene College, Cambridge) is no doubt aware that the progressive paper has never had an editor who was not a privately educated, white male. The key to changing that in the future is the young writing talent they hire today. Owen Jones (University College, Oxford) and Archie Bland (Winchester and Emmanuel College, Cambridge) are two of his latest hires. Change is going to be a long time coming…

    Graham Swift says:

Rusbridger is just a gobby leftie arsehole surrounded by parasitic useless shits like Jones and Toynbee.

    Eric Schön says:

I’d assumed Owen Jones was still at school!

    Not In My Name says:

Hmm does being a Union place person, Red Prince/Princess, incumbent of a hereditary Labour safe seat or a Common Purpose graduate count?

Guido Fawkes woulod support Glasgow Celtic because he was a catholic.
    Up the Glasgow Celtic.

The Guardian newspaper is an OK read. I suppose.

Most MPs are Idle Troughers says:

This report is from the Alan Milburn quango. It would be more interesting if it had also mentioned the reverse closed shop, ie If you went to an Oxbridge university, you will encounter problems getting hired in many jobs.

Has our esteemed leader commented on Rotherham yet??? Why not, is Lynton on holiday?

  8. 8
    Socialism is theft says:

This could explain why there is a 40% rise in immigration under an elitist Tory government.

  9. 9
    Eaun Blair says:

I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m going to be an MP because of merit and merit alone.

Trust me, I’m a pretty straight-forward kind of guy.

Seems my previous post is awaiting moderation.
Maybe you’re also part of the problem,Guido.

Who in their right mind would want to be a politician or a top judge? Not a lifestyle choice for the many in Equality UK.

I suspect 99% of the public have no desire to have these ‘top’ jobs. There’s only a few scrabbling for these top positions an always will be.

Welcome to equality UK which means there is much less drive to achieve as a result.

The CBI has reported for years than the vast majority of new starters from equality UK really do not want to work at all and certainly do not want to work hard and view with horror any idea of working late to complete a task. They would prefer to come in late, go early and take holidays as they please.

The CBI also reports that many employers prefer immigrant labour simply because they still have the work ethic and are prefer to work hard to advance their position.

    CCHQ says:

With today’s headline news that net immigration has shot up to 243,000, our Supreme Imbecile would rather not discuss the ‘negative opportunities’ caused by immigration. Thank you for your understanding.

    Please don’t vote UKIP.

    Bob says:

Last time I looked we were 40th in the worlds list of educating our children. I lay the blame on the teaching profession. Teach our kids properly so they may aspire to further their education at proper universities and be able to run the country.

  17. 17
    bergen says:

That’s why the grauniad is so keen on bog standard comprehensives. Can’t have uppity proles with ideas above their station challenging their kids for jobs.

  18. 18
    Jim says:

Its all a question of education. Either you had it, or you have been to State School.

    John Bellingham says:

Does the Guardian also recruit heterosexual staff?

  21. 21
    Dougie says:

It’s entirely appropriate that the people “running Britain” should be those with the best education. The problem, such as it is, is that too many teachers – egged on by the loony teaching unions – don’t encourage their pupils to aspire to Oxbridge.

    Owen's mum says:

My Owen was a very clever little boy and I found him a place at Oxford University on this site:

  23. 23
The British media are cunts says:

Leftists send their kids to private or Grammar schools.

Just as Harman, Toynbee and Fatbutt

  24. 24
    Oppressed prole. says:

Yes, it’s all the fault of teachers. They don’t believe in elitism or pushing the bright kids more than the dumb ones so unless you go to a schools where they no where the world works you fall through the cracks.

  25. 25

Does the Guardian actually employ any hetero staff?

    English Heretic says:

Harsh but fair. “It’s not hypocrisy when we do it”.

  28. 28

Maybe Rusbridger and the rest of the leftie elite would prefer it if the entire population had to suffer bog standard comprehensives, where functional illiteracy is the norm ,and the spawn of labour’s specially bred underclass of uneducable cretinous morons constantly destroy the educational prospects of working and middle class children , where teachers fight a losing battle to try to keep some semblance of order, and breathe a sigh of relief at the end of every day that passes without serious harm.
Sorry it doesn’t apply to them !

  29. 29
    Dangerous Brian says:

Labour were right to abolish the Grammar School and Labour politicians were right to make sure they all went to one of the few that refused to be shut down.

F*ck you Jack, John and Jill the socialist left are alright.

    Dangerous Brian says:

Unless of course they are marching for more holidays, bigger pensions and the right to indoctrinate children as young as seven into the joys of the sappho/homo alternative family lifestyle.

    An mind vote naw

  32. 32

Who s bankrolling the perennially lossmaking Guardian ?

It s not Ledbedev — his pockets are being emptied by The Independent and London Live.

  33. 33

Well in way he is . It s an ongoing and neverending learning curve with these people.

Such that when they ascend to a civic position of highly paid responsibility in a State funded fiefdom and it all goes tits up under their watch they can say “lessons have been –and probably are still are being — ….learned”!!!

  34. 34
    Observer says:

No surprises here, it’s the usual leftie hypocrisy.

Don’t do as we do, do as we say!

George Galloway says of his former Respect candidate the UKIP MEP turned Tory, Amjad Bashir…

“Clearly Bashir does not have any real political principles or commitment, only naked opportunism and self-interest. He represents the revolving door principle in politics. The Tories are welcome to him because he will cause them embarrassment. Fortunately Respect was able to act before he did it to us.”
