Given Clegg’s grandstanding this week, not to mention Labour’s apocalyptic rhetoric, it is worth asking just how far apart the parties are on allowing unqualified teachers to work in free schools.
The NUT say a teacher is qualified if they have a City and Guilds 7307 Certificate. This complex reward is bestowed upon any candidate survives a rigorous and gruelling training regime for three days a month for six months. That is a grand total of 18 days.
So Clegg and Tristram Hunt have gone to war with the Tories over less than three weeks of training for teachers.
