Clegg’s 18-Day War

Given Clegg’s grandstanding this week, not to mention Labour’s apocalyptic rhetoric, it is worth asking just how far apart the parties are on allowing unqualified teachers to work in free schools.

The NUT say a teacher is qualified if they have a City and Guilds 7307 Certificate. This complex reward is bestowed upon any candidate survives a rigorous and gruelling training regime for three days a month for six months. That is a grand total of 18 days.

So Clegg and Tristram Hunt have gone to war with the Tories over less than three weeks of training for teachers.

Just in case you thought this was anything other than political positioning…

Quote of the Day

Trevor Kavanagh’s analysis of the Brexit process…

“Thanks to Mrs May and her useless Chancellor Phil Hammond, this will not come without pain. But we escape with imagination and true British grit or we will be boiled alive.

It means on this centenary Remembrance of our struggle against tyranny, we risk ceding non-military victory in Europe to the undemocratic forces of an unaccountable totalitarian regime.”
