Huhne and Pryce Sentencing Sweepstakes

Chris and Vicky have arrived at court as they await sentencing at 2pm. To mark the occasion you can win a copy of Lee Rotherham’s “The EU in a Nutshell: Everything you wanted to know about the European Union but didn’t know who to ask”, by entering Guido’s Huhne and Pryce Sentencing Sweepstakes. The rules are simple: leave your prediction – in months – for how long Huhne will get, then how long Pryce will get, in the comments.

In the event of a suspended sentence, your guess will still be counted. In the event of a tie names will be drawn out of a hat. Not long to wait so get guessing…

UPDATE: Guido will also be throwing in a dozen “I’ve Been Kissed By Chris” stickers for the lucky winner.

      Huhne:
12 days, suspended. Then benefits from a million pound misery memoir deal with some lefty publishing house. Becomes leader of the Lib Dems when Cleggie gets dumped and then appointed Deputy Prime Minister in the 2015 Lib-Lab coalition.
      Pryce:
20 days suspended plus two days community work in a Channel 4 or BBC studio of her choice. Then lucrative lecture circuit deal provided by Tony Blair’s lecture circuit agent. Buys the island of Corfu from the proceeds and retires there to write her memoirs.
      Judge Sweeney:
Will receive a highly remunerated position in the Euro Court of Yuman Rites.
      Britain:
Sentenced to a slow and painful death at the hands of these lying, thieving, backstabbing scumbags.

We have a similar view to the relativities which most do not. It was H’s blag, he fitted P up and, even if she readily agreed which I doubt, then H must have the major sentence. The fact that he strung it out and then entered a plea of guilty at the eleventh hour and fifty ninth minute should not count for much at all IMO.

        Tuscan Tony says:

Crim Bar friend says his guilty plea will almost automatically earn him a reduction; their being joint defendants means there can;’t be too much disparity. That said I still think he was the prime mover in this and I did also spot you seem to agree with me. The envelope is about to open….

My take is, she took the points to save the marriage, and later Cable manipulated her down this path of revenge to take out Huhne.

Grauniad has a video up of Cable denying all, and distancing liberals from this. Lots of blinking and furtive glances at the camera when talking about the Pryce aspect.

Pryce is not smart at these political games, hence this sentencing today, and the Lib Dems have bad track record in strategy.

Cross hairs should be shifting to Cable now. He’s in it up to his neck, which may come out when Br!scoe’s matter comes up.

          • I had just been watching that. This one should run and run.

The judge is wearing the Black Cap, or, as it is called in Gaelic, the Caip Bhais (“kab vosh”), which is where the expression “putting the kibosh on [something]” originally stemmed from; the Black Cap signified a death sentence– the judge was putting the kibosh on a person’s life, if you will.

Sadly, this bit of trivia won’t actually come into play in the sentencing of Chris and Vicky, more is the pity, as they will probably receive some sort of blended sentence in which the first part, say three months, will be custodial, and the next nine will be house arrest with an ankle bracelet, or some such arrangement. In theory, the idea is to “teach ‘em a lesson” with the first part, and somewhat incapacitate their ordinary comings and goings with the second. As their offence was non-violent, there would be apparently no justification based on public safety to bang ‘em up for the whole stretch.

The charge sheet surely reads ‘perverting the course of justice’. It’s considered such a heinous crime that there is a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Had they pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, as the examples you saw probably did, H&P may have got off relatively lightly too. Not now.

Yvonne from the Colliers Arms Clydach says:

So Huhne and Pryce are no danger to the public are they?

Well I have read some crap in my time but this really takes the biscuit .

It was bad enough all that baloney about Huhne being a magnificent Minister and a marvelous constituency MP .

He was neither of these two things . A good constituent MP will see out his mandate and not resign because he has broken the law before he even put himself forward as a candidate.

He got into Parliament based upon falsehoods and lies and for all I know he used these techniques to forge this totally useless coalition government.

Those emails show Pryce in her true colors . Ok she may have had justification for wanting to nail her fornicating husband but the fact that she would seek to bring innocent third parties into the matter such as Miriam Clegg shows clearly duplicity . She is supposed to be an intelligent woman . She knew what she was doing . She wanted power . She made a decision to break the law and might even have been reaping the benefits of her crime today.

I say lock them both up .

Rod Liddle on the loony UN sexism special rapporteur:

“There is more sexism in Britain than in any other country in the world, according to a mad woman who has been sent here by the United Nations.

Rashida Manjoo is a part-time professor of law at Cape Town University in the totally non-sexist country of South Africa (otherwise known as Rape Capital Of The World).

Mrs Magoo has been wandering around with her notebook and is appalled by the sexist “boys’ club” culture here, apparently.

I don’t doubt we still have sexism in the UK. But is it worse than in, say, Saudi Arabia, d’you think, honey-lamb? Or about 175 other countries? Get a grip, you doolally old bat.”
