Archer’s case was infinitely worse in the eyes of any judge-he brought a libel action to gain massive damages which involved some fabricated evidence. He was always going to have the book thrown at him big time if he was convicted.

We have a similar view to the relativities which most do not. It was H’s blag, he fitted P up and, even if she readily agreed which I doubt, then H must have the major sentence. The fact that he strung it out and then entered a plea of guilty at the eleventh hour and fifty ninth minute should not count for much at all IMO.
Crim Bar friend says his guilty plea will almost automatically earn him a reduction; their being joint defendants means there can;’t be too much disparity. That said I still think he was the prime mover in this and I did also spot you seem to agree with me. The envelope is about to open….

My take is, she took the points to save the marriage, and later Cable manipulated her down this path of revenge to take out Huhne.

The judge is wearing the Black Cap, or, as it is called in Gaelic, the Caip Bhais (“kab vosh”), which is where the expression “putting the kibosh on [something]” originally stemmed from; the Black Cap signified a death sentence– the judge was putting the kibosh on a person’s life, if you will.
Sadly, this bit of trivia won’t actually come into play in the sentencing of Chris and Vicky, more is the pity, as they will probably receive some sort of blended sentence in which the first part, say three months, will be custodial, and the next nine will be house arrest with an ankle bracelet, or some such arrangement. In theory, the idea is to “teach ‘em a lesson” with the first part, and somewhat incapacitate their ordinary comings and goings with the second. As their offence was non-violent, there would be apparently no justification based on public safety to bang ‘em up for the whole stretch.

The charge sheet surely reads ‘perverting the course of justice’. It’s considered such a heinous crime that there is a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Had they pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, as the examples you saw probably did, H&P may have got off relatively lightly too. Not now.
