It is probably not worth speculating on who out of UKIP / Lib Dem will win tonight, but which of the LibLabCon parties running have lost the least credibility during the course of this campaign ?
i) Labour: Candidate who supports terrorism and sympathized with the Argentine’s in the Falklands.
ii) Lib Dems: Should be thoroughly discredited by now on nearly every conceivable level. One important level for Eastleigh being the decision to concrete over some very nice parts of town with housing estates, apparently for an influx of foreigners.
iii) Conservatives: Kept candidate hidden, showing that those running this campaign do not want a candidate who does express core conservative values running.
Notable also is what appears to be a complete lack of appeal to local issues, particularly the housing development and how exactly any of these candidates plan to bring jobs into the area.
Am not sure any of these three are really taking this by-election seriously, however Labour may lose the least credibility, Conservatives the most.

I believe part of the stand off-ishnes of the police during the 2011 riots was a shot across the bow to Westminster.
I spoke to a number of police during the night of 8th August in my part of London and they were anything but ‘standing off’. They were doing a good job and working hard.
There were a few who did seem very bitter about the government but I do not think the problems in the riots of areas being abandonned were due to the rank and file not being up for it. It was mainly down to poor leadership and deployment decisions.
I think the Federal government will find hard to keep up with it’s people, even with the buying power they have, it’s people have been stockpiling since the Kenyan got in, the makers have been on 24hour manufacturing since.

Disagree with your first point. We live in an elective dictatorship that resembles more an oligarchy than a parliamentary democracy. Both parties might attempt to appear right-wing because they need some of the middle and slightly right of centre to prevail. The common method now is to reach out to their opponents territory for the first half of a parliament and risk alienating their own but then in the approach to re-election, try and regain the ground with their own natural base of support. They both do it but in opposite directions.
I do understand you are a statist and, although I disagree profoundly with your objectives, I respect your honesty in admitting it. It is natural that you should look on all these parties as right-wing because of what I have set out above.
Whilst I am not quite Attila the Hun, I look on them all as left wing. The explanation of both our views is one of perspective.
I travelled to the old USSR more than once and understand what you are saying but I do not equate the main swathe of Libertarianism with anarchism although some strains may seem that way. My previous writings here and elsewhere have allowed for regulation of a minimal level which is totally different to the “light touch” introduced in 1997. My rule is similar to Ockham’s Razor. It’s not called fractional reserve banking for no meaning. Banks lend money according to to their Tier 1 capital ratios and other (mark to fantasy) assets that were completely made up leadin up to the crash. Unfortunately, in the bending of the rules beyond the Basel II, captial ratios were completely distorted and banks WERE effectively creating money out of thin air. Anyone with a pulse was being foisted with loans and mortgages which in some cases were 125% of the asset value at purchase.
This is reason that the universal banks are extremely reluctant to be split along investment and retail banking lines…as it is the retail arms that reperesent the Golden Goose that lays the eggs (i.e. the money creation aspect) for the investment arms to use as gambling chips (via their prop trading desks) in the stock market casinos.

Well done UKIP: That was an impressive performance: 27.7% share of the vote. Very credible.
Next order of business for UKIP are May local council elections: They are running national campaign with about 2000 candidates.
In Westminster: Cameron’s leadership is now firmly in the frame.
And note should be taken of the postal vote influence on this by-election.
The Conservatives split the UKIP somewhat.
Re: postal votes… it could have been even closer if ‘Fondlegate’ had broken a week or two earlier.
