The only reason the para-legal shacked up with the QC displacing the judge was to get pupillage, a pre-req for advancing her career. This is common practice, yet not reported on by C4 as it clearly parallels what goes on at party conferences and is in many ways more insidious.
Where is Newman on equality issues when there isn’t a by-election involved which Labour will lose even if they try to nobble the postal vote ?

Exactly. Without the original sin which of course is a Lib Dem sin, there is no problem. But it is not coincidence that it has surfaced just before Eastleigh. Both tory and labour have been aware of the Rennard situation for ages but there has not been enough potential advantage in releasing it until now.

There was real disquiet among the Brent Lib Dems in 2003 when they had their own clear choice of candidate for the by-election – a well-rooted, hard-working local councillor who was young, charismatic, funny, and extremely smart. But he was a man.
Rennard personally intervened, insisting that it MUST be a woman candidate, and he introduced them to some bright young thing he’d just picked up from Islington, Sarah Teather (though until the 2003 by-election came up, he had been trying to parachute her in to the target seat of Taunton, which Jeremy Browne eventually won in 2005). Teather owes her entire political career to Rennard’s philanthropic assistance. Make of that what you will.
