    From the Mail

Top eurocrat says the Nobel Prize means we must now ‘cherish’ the EU

You may have seen by now that today the EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Eurocrats were so moved that there were trembling lips this morning as the European Commission president, José Manuel Barroso, swept into the Press Room at the Berlaymont headquarters to make a statement to the hacks. He asserted that the prize was a message from the Nobel Prize committee that the EU was ‘precious’ and that all European citiziens must ‘cherish’ it, but refused to take questions on it.

Which is the usual guff we always get from Barroso, the difference this time that when he turned to leave the Press Room, applause broke out. I swivelled my head to see which hacks could possibly be breaking the rule of the brotherhood that we do not clap for anyone.

What I saw were a lot of journalists not clapping, but a scattering of people who appeared to be commission staff members. They had come and sat among the journalists, and they were the ones doing the clapping. How convenient. For the television cameras present — especially for Barroso’s own 24-hour duty film crew — it looked like the massed ranks of the Brussels press corps were applauding him.
    We weren’t.

As for the EU winning the Nobel Prize for Peace, as one wag pointed out after Barroso left, ‘They’d hardly win it for economics.’

Of course. Seven days is a long time to wait for such wonderful interpretations of political satire and comedy. Depression sets in if not delivered early Monday.

  10. 10

    You have proof of that?

I hate doing woodwork with the Muslim kids.

    They’re always hijacking the planes.

  18. 18
    sekwaf odiug says:

“they’d hardly win it for economics.’ For the past half centuary the UK has hardly covered itself in glory, especially considering the number of economic graduates churned out by universities, they have lacked common sense in application which is what Maggie was trying to say in the 1980’s

  19. 19
When I was a boy the poor were skinny says:

    At least Fortnum’s have guts.

Fortnum & Mason has defended its right to sell foie gras, saying it has been eaten for hundreds of years without complaint, and vowing not to yield to animal-rights campaigners.

The Norwegians are canny beggars… they need to suck up to Brussels so that they don’t get sqeezed out of ‘totaleurope’

So in reality Norway is full blooded stereotypical EU their EU edge over the rest of us being to sit on the sidelines and cherry-pick.

Now that ‘null points’ Norway have turned Nobel into barefaced politics , will the 2014 Eurovision be staged in Oslo?

  31. 31
    The Countess of Wythenshawe says:

Remember the Greeks have already burnt a pregnant woman alive while she was working in a Bank . Germans have never been flavour of the month after WW2 .

Turkey is neither in or out of the EU but because of its location and size cannot be ignored .

The French have already physically assaulted two Ministers within months of Hollande’s lot taking over . Beware of a smiling Marine Le Pen .

Catalonia is a time bomb which could explode literally .

Romany gypsies are running amock in mainline Europe .

Ask the average Italian how he or she feels about cross Mediterranean immigration .

Just because Cable called the property bubble correctly does not make him a Nobel prize winner but sadly he may just have a point .

    But would he listen ?

  34. 34
There are far more important issues than pandering to Pleb Plods says:

Dave — once and for all — will you tell the Plods to fxck off and get back to their canteens where the lazy fat bxstards can contemplate their early retirements and gold plated inflation proofed pensions. Mitchell clearly understated his comments to the jobsworths.

I thought Mitchell (an utter fool) should go-until I saw the simpering West Midlands Police Federation rep displaying his hurt feelings on TV. What hope have we got when our police have embraced the victim culture like this?

Why is this witch hunt of Andrew Mitchel being allowed to continue ?Its obvious its being kept going by the Labour party who seem to have forgotten Prescot punching a man when he was deputy (!) PM. As i recall that didnt drag on for 4 weeks with the Police federation being wheeled out to put their 3 pennorth in. David Cameron needs to get some decent advisors.

  43. 43
    Anonymous says:

Why are there double standards ? Prescott punched a man in the face when he was deputy pm, i dont remember all this fuss. The police have behaved disgracefully hijacking the situation for political reasons.Lets hope the Federation is going to be as hard on the 100 or so PCs who “altered” their statements at Hillsborough.People arent going to forget how they milked this situation.

  44. 44

The involvement of the Police federation is a disgrace, not that it comes as any surprise after their appalling behaviour towards the Home secretary at their conference.I wonder if the simperer will be wheeled out when Hillsborough hits the fan ?

Boris on British Jihadis. Apparently based on MI5 intel:

“If you look at all the psychological profiling about bombers, they typically will look at porn. They are literally w***ers. Severe onanists. They are tortured. They will be very badly adjusted in their relations with women, and that is a symptom of their feeling of being failures and that the world is against them. They are not making it with girls, and so they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort — which of course is no comfort.”
