A few years ago BBC broadcast a where are they now type documentary on about a dozen or so ex Miners who were at the forefront of the Miners Strike in 1984 and were at the time some of the most militant. The thing was most of them were doing rather well these days with many of them running sucessfull businesses which they had started with their redundacy packages which they received after their mine was closed down.

I tell you what I find disgusting, a petition with over 100,000 signatures was raised in less than a week by people concerned about the continued mass immigration in to the UK. This in turn triggers a debate in Parliament which as you all know took place last Thursday, now out of over 600 MP’s only 50 bothered to turned up!

My guess is that a majority of UK citizens would appreciate a proper debate on immigration. Forget any issues about race – that is not the issue here (although you might want it to be). The real issue is common sense versus political incompetence. The sheer impact on resources and amenities (like schools and hospitals) from rapid increases in population in certain areas can only lead to problems.

We don’t want mass immigration even if all the immigrants are white, Christian and wear ties.
Think about it for a minute or two. The state, government and therefore MPs thrive on people who need help and are incapable of self-determination for whatever reason, whether it be for reasons of low intelligence, lack of proper education, or simply an inability to speak the local language to get work. If you’re an autonomous, self-sufficient and independent minded person you have no need for a nanny and very little need for state functionaries – ergo the combination of mass immigration and a benevolent, non-contributory welfare state is a serious work, pay and pension fest for the public sector.

I think the solution to this impasse is clear. What we need to do is ensure that the T-shirts are khaki. This will ensure the TUC attract less criticism among the more fashion-minded.
