David Earns Half a Mil-iband

Under Ed Miliband’s stewardship Labour have set themselves firmly against excessive pay for the wealthy: “There is a need for responsibility at the top as well as at the bottom. Rewards for failure are bad for society“.

Ed’s brother clearly didn’t get the memo however – defeated leadership candidate David has raked in some £500,000 in the last year thanks to a series of positions he holds in addition to being an MP. According to the Register of Members Interests, David earns over £25,000 per speech and £75,000 a year as a director at Sunderland FC, even pocketing a hundred grand for four days’ work as an advisor to an energy company in California. Welcome to the 1%…

Both of the Milibands are now property millionaires.

They “earned” their property portfolio whilst serving in public office.

    How can that be?

Both have never had jobs, never ran businesses & certainly not contributed enough to the country to warrant becoming millionaires at the taxpayers expense.

Add to the the Tax Avoidance on their late Fathers home & we have another pigs in the trough scandal from a pair of self serving, self celebrating champagne socialist hypocrits.

Jimmy, perhaps you know of more altruistic reasons why Miliband set up a company to funnel his earnings outside of Parliament? Perhaps he doesn’t claim business expenses and voluntarily pays the amount of tax saved through using the very same loopholes that the Labour Government vowed to close but strangely never did?

Hold on, I can hear the piggies starting their engines and preparing for take-off.

Point is, as you full well know, this limited company will provide Miliband with the opportunity to organise his earnings – which can include paying as little tax as possible. Now, this is neither illegal or immoral of course, but he should never dare sound off about others following his example and doing the same thing.

Jesus I am most definately in the wrong job.

Over the past decade or so in a number of distinct corporate and non corporate areas, my words have either preempted disaster (a friend whose seemingly solid international company was about to go belly up), or have led to significant change in how things work (evidinced in one case partially in the Daily Mail but you would need inside info to timeline the subsequent changes that most definately adresed the issues). Admittedly they could all be coincidences, but that is a lot of coincidences, and I earn nothing from it. Mind you I have never tried to.

I could use £25k per speech, and £100k for 4 days work.

Gyles Brandreth writes in his memoirs:

“Sunday, May 10, 1998

Early start: appearing on Breakfast With Frost, to be broadcast from 11 Downing Street. The Chancellor [Gordon Brown] is grouchily amiable, but so earnest — and still biting his fingernails to the quick.

After the show, he took us upstairs to his flat. He lives above No 10, while Blair and family are in the No 11 duplex, which is bigger and more like a proper house.

I was intrigued that, when he took us into his bedroom, the Chancellor rather ostentatiously opened the built-in wardrobes, as if he wanted us to see the women’s frocks that were hanging in there.

They looked quite large, but I don’t think they belong to Gordon. I assume they belong to his girlfriend [Sarah Macaulay, who he later married].

I presume he was keen for us to know that he has one — and that she’s not a ‘beard’. I don’t think he does anything without calculation.”
