Warsi’s War

20120531-084809.jpg

There is a fascinating exchange of letters over at the Staggers between the Chairman of the Conservative Arab Network and Tory Chairman Sayeeda Warsi. They discuss Guido’s revelations about the group, and show how the exposé set off a chain of events that led to the troubles that Warsi is in right now:

This may be revenge, but that does not make it any less dangerous for Warsi…

Mabe I see it differently says:

Cameron makes John Major look competent (not a compliment to John). Never have we be led by so many people with such a poor lack of judgement since Thatcher left (pre-poll tax days).

I can only assume that the world as we know it is coming to an end, as this lack of any type of leadership worldwide is vsible for all to see.

The question is, who is more fucked than we are?

The reverse parallel universe that the BBC exists in says:

It never ceases to amaze me how the BBC invite Kinnock and Major onto their political progs and present them as wise sages who were successes of their time. Then the same BBC talks about the Great Mrs T as if she were a failure.

          Raving Loon says:

I may be a young’un, but from my reading of history we had garbage piling up in the streets, 3 day weeks, and the lights kept on going out. We had around 25% inflation and insanely high taxes and capital controls. The unions had brought the UK to a standstill. Thatcher sorted those things out and we moved on as a nation. Those who vilify Thatcher don’t understand the context in which she came to power.

plus, it had snowed non stop for eight and a half months. she managed to sort that out too.

          • The History Man says:

Yes and no. Lady T did much to prepare Britain to function in a post Imperial world where capital would be even freer to move around, she also tried (and in my view regretably failed) to open up politics the real dynamic force in our society i.e. those who want and will work hard and not rely on some weird school/uni/mates/lodge connection to get them on in the world. Since that failure we have been saddled with the poorest lot of politicos possible and a culture that at the rich end thinks it has a right to all the wealth and power and at the bottom end the right to live in state subsidised shit. Basically the rest of us get spit roasted with out being asked if we like it.

Its perhaps a lack of deference, and more openness. I’m sure international politicians of the past cocked things up a fair bit, but managed to hide the fact.

But there are plenty of countries more f’d than the uk. If you think of sarkozy he made himself very unpopular by making only minor changes (ie NI reforms, pension at 62, employment contracts that aren’t carved in granite- (failed) )

Not so well known is that Obama returned probably the current most dangerous terrorist in the world to his homeland in Syria; a man who was also an enemy of the Baa’th Party and Asad family.
Syria locked him up for some years, but a few months ago let him free.
The last heard of him was in Iran, but you can bet all the losses of the small investors in the Facebook IPO that the CIA and M16 are sweating blood on trying to locate this man.

      a pratt says:

In his book ‘The Islamic Republic of Dewsbury’, Danny Lockwood has two interesting local anecdotes about Warsi:

” He tells how she sat next to one of his staff in the hairdressers wondering aloud whether to accept the political courtship of the Labour Party or the Conservatives. Both parties could see the value of an articulate educated and ambitious Muslim woman. Her history in the ‘human rights’ field suggested she was left wing, but the Conservatives offered immediate local career openings.

One story I cannot resist repeating. HSBC bank sponsored an Eid celebration for 2000 people organised by Shahid Malik. Warsi wangled invitations for her family from the bank. As she tried to enter the main hall Shahid Malik told her that no women were allowed in the hall and that she should join the other women downstairs. She defied him and walked into the hall which may have ultimately cost her votes. Her choice has served her well. She lost in the 2005 election but gained a life peerage 2 years later.”
