Judgement Day: Proceedings are underway in a bizarre legal battle between Lord Rami Ranger – the Tory peer whose CBE was stripped in 2024 over distasteful comments he made about Pakistanis and Sikhs – and PM Keir Starmer. Ranger’s barrister, Tom Hickman KC, alleges that the allegations were never put to him and were not substantive enough to warrant action from the Honours Forfeiture Committee, as well as claiming that the revocation runs contrary to Ranger’s ECHR Article 10 Rights. Starmer’s barrister, Christopher Knight KC, argues that the exercise of the prerogative power to remove an honour is “entirely non-justiciable” and is calling for the case to be dismissed.
