It would be reasonable to think that if there were to be no prosecution for reasons of either “insufficient evidence” or “not in the public interest” this would not preclude Cameron and Clegg from looking at what CPS have and making a decision about his fitness for Public office. i will not holdmy breath though!

Pre-announcements of announcements allow the government time to sort out what they are going to do.
Expect a lot of activity in Downing Street today, certainly a lot of ‘screened’ phone calls, messages etc.

I agree it doesn’t bode well . Not heard before of the CPS pre-announcing an announcement ! Who are they announcing to ? It is between Huhne and the Police rather than anyone else. Huhne will know already what will happen tomorrow.

Isn’t Starmer a Common Purpose plant as well? If so there are thousands of them dotted around promoting the global marxism “fairness” message.

      • 90
        CYNICAL OLD MAN says:

The “Insufficient Evidence” excuse the CPS often uses is a load of bollocks. There was a time when prosecution evidence was tested in court before magistrates or a judge and jury. The tossers at the CPS are such low grade lawyers they need the accused to have been caught red handed, on camera, preferably with fingerprint and DNA evidence, followed by a full and frank admission and positive identification from at least six witnesses. Even then, they’d bottle it if the accused indicated he/she would be pleading “not guilty”.

I’ve seen first hand good quality criminal cases dropped because the accused has become “difficult”. Whenever your hear the words ” the prosecution offered no evidence” when they get to court you just know the CPS lawyer has bottled out of a full trial. Many is the time a victim or witness who has been more than willing to attend court has been left in the dark because the CPS has quietly dropped a prosecution case.

Best day of the week to bury bad news says:

Remember Stammer originally called a press conference to explain why they wouldn’t be chaging anyone with the death of Ian Tomlison.

    • 120
      Please hang Huhne says:

Debatable. The CPS finally got their act together very rapidly once the emails were with them, so let’s hope this is the final piece of the jigsaw. Alternatively, of course, this is as suggested merely an arse-covering exercise. Besides, why call a press conference to announce a charge (or charges)? Theoretically it should be very brief, so why drag everyone there – unless the socialist Starmer wants to revel in yet more publicity. After all, he is quite a self-regarding twat and always relishes getting his name in the papers.

Problem is, the coalition agreement means that Lib-dems have to be replaced by other lib dems.

This means that the useless human-hating green fascist Hughne will have to be replaced by another useless human-hating green fascist.

We will not see sanity in our energy policy for many years yet.

Not a cat in hell’s chance of Mr Huhne being charged or having to resign….it will be announced that due to the largely speculative ruminations of the press and blogosphere that it would simply be impossible for Mr Huhne to receive a fair hearing and with that and taking everything into account on the balnce of probability etc etc…it would not be in the public interest to pursue this matter…….

    Bald old Git says:

BBC has ‘decision then to be explained on camera.’

You wouldn’t need to explain anything on camera if it were going to trial.

He’s off the hook, I bet.

  30. 61
    Angry Bird says:

At this point you can be sure Carina Tringham will be breaking out the leather flogger and the extra double wide strapon. Huhne is going to need all the breaking in he can take if his visit to Wormwood scrubs is to be bearable.

  31. 62
    'Gypsy' Dave Cooper says:

According to that slap head Nick Robinson,

“I’ve just been checking the precedents for the CPS announcing in advance that they are making an on-camera statement and for the DPP himself delivering it.

The Crown Prosecution Service did make an on camera statement when they decided not to bring prosecutions in the cash for honours. It was, though, not the Director of Public Prosecutions himself who made the announcement. The news emerged the day before – I reported the fact that there would not be prosecutions the day before on the BBC News at Ten and on my blog.

The last time the DPP made an on-camera statement was when manslaughter charges were brought against a police officer over the death of Ian Tomlinson last May. He also made the announcements on the decisions relating to the MPs’ expenses scandal”

    Fingers crossed then.

  32. 64
    Devil's Dumplings says:

Sadly – not a chance. Many have forgotten the basic rule of the HoC:

“One rule for the plebs – a very different one for us” followed by:

  33. 65

Here’s a summary of what Starmer will say : Too long ago, not possible to charge him and not Pryce as well and the poor cow has suffered enough, fancy being replaced by an ugly lesbian, had it not been for the divorce nothing would have happened, no one would have been any wiser, they were both very naughty but unlikely to do it again, a fair trial would now be virtually impossible, etc.,etc.,etc., ad infinitum.

      • 124
        Hugh Janus says:

Nevertheless, even if he escapes prosecution the ‘points swap’ will remain up there with Peter Vain’s (alleged) bank robbery. In other words, we all know he did it but the authorities lack the balls to see it through.

  34. 66
    Ivor Tapeworm says:

So If Huhne is off the hook [To Be Confirmed] does this mean that his ex was lying and will be prosecuted for wasting police time?

Or is this all too embarrassing and we will be told to forget about the whole matter?

Parasiticians – dontcha just love ‘em.

  35. 71
    Anonymous says:

With our politicised police force if Huhne was going to be prosecuted he would have been arrested and charged by now. He’s off the hook.
    Hope I’m wrong but I don’t think I am.

  36. 72
    TGF UKIP says:

If it has taken so long to decide whether or not the evidence was sufficient to obtain a conviction then that very uncertainty is a demonstration that it should have been for a jury to come to that decision and not Huhne’s fellow leftie, Starmer.

It will be an “insufficient evidence” whitewash and one more reason for the rest of us to loathe and despise all the London bastards.

  37. 74
    Hang The Bastards says:

Lock the fucking bastard tvvat up !

ONE RULE FOR US SAME RULE FOR THEM !!

  38. 79
    Red Lorry says:

Oh God. He’s going to walk, isn’t he?
The Press conference is to explain why they aren’t prosecuting.

The police don’t hold press conferences to announce they are GOING to arrest someone. They turn up at 3 in the morning and snap the cuffs on. Look what they did with CAsh for honours.

I can’t bear the thought of the toad and his shit-eating grin if he gets off.

  39. 81
    pissed off voter says:

CPS record on prosecuting politicians is abysmal. Begs the question ‘who regulates the regulators?’.

Shouldn’t Leveson be examining the role of the CPS as part of his inquiry?

  40. 82
    Voice of Reason says:

Yep, I said long ago that they will find a way not to prosecute this smarmy twat. They don’t announce in advance other than to prepare for the ineviable – not in the public interest to prosecute! Also Starmer will not be answering any questions after the statement. Once again a politician has got away with it because of Starmer who is himself a twat of the lowest order. What is interesting though is if any charges against his ex-wife are brought because if he is not to be prosecuted surely she would have been trying to pervert the course of justice.

    • 100
      Lizzie says:

I’m surprised anyone thinks someone like Starmer will decide to press charges against someone like Huhne. If it was a Tory Minister, they’d be in the dock double sharpish.

  43. 87
    Latimer Alder says:

C’mon Keir you punk….show you have some balls and make my day tomorrow.

And please remind the trial judge that the maximum sentence is life imprisonment.

  44. 89
    Stirling English says:

If the bastard does get off, will anybody ever treat him with any respect again?

We need a strong and determined Energy Minister who can undo all the harm and nonsense that Huhne and Milliband the Younger have done.

  45. 91
    Hang The Bastards says:

if he gets off then every member of the public who gets a speeding fine should clog the system by making up pathetic excuses.

Then the CPS would really have their hands full

  46. 92
    Cave Troll's Scrotum says:

Yep, the bastard will be free to carry on erecting windmills on concrete plinths in the most beautiful parts of Britain for a bit longer.

    • 125
      Hugh Janus says:

At least we won’t have to watch Huhne on the telly when our generating capacity falls well below the level of demand and the lights go out, thanks to his insane energy policies. So it’s not all doom and gloom.

  50. 96
    Mr Nobody says:

Were Huhne to escape, it is hard to envidage how anybody could ever have faith in the CPS again. Justice must be done, and it must be seen to be done.

  51. 98
    Lizzie says:

Since the press conference is to both ‘announce’ the decision and apparently ‘explain’ it a pound to a penny no charges will be brought because if charges were being brought then the CPS wouldn’t ‘explain’ their decision for fear of jeopardising the fairness of the subsequent trial by their explanation.

It’ll be ‘no charges’ and an explanation of why it took them so long to come to the decision, probably with a ‘charges would not be in the public interest’ thrown in somewhere for good measure.

  52. 99
    Chris Huhne says:

I am part of the Establishment. I will never be put on trial.

Sadly, I reckon I agree with the comments above that see the lying weasel getting away with it. Any CPS “explanation” *has* to be about why they *aren’t* charging him… any CPS statement that came after they’ve announced that they *were* charging would surely be viewed as predjudicial.

Starmer is so scared of the press huhne will definitely be prosecuted. Starmer cacked himself over the backlash after not prosecuting the police officer over the death of Tomlinson, he did a complete U-turn; he names and shames his own lawyers in the press if they make a mistake, so expect Huhne and his ex missus to face charges.
