Guy News Flashback: Huhne Speeds Off Dodging Questions

This was Guy News “huhneting” three months ago. The CPS have again asked Essex Police for more evidence – this time emails from Vicky Pryce to the Sunday Times where she planted a “no fingerprints” story about Huhne. Unfortunately her fingerprints have now been found everywhere except on the steering wheel of the speeding car. We’ll get him in the end…

Sordid party with Sordid MPs. Today we have confirmation that Clegg is totally insane. He claims it would be economic lunacy pot to be in the EU and that the Uk cannot influence on the margins. First, the Uk would be bankrupt if we were in the EU as Huhne aggressively promoted and denounced those who spoke against him (like Clegg is doing now). We are on the margins as 1o Eu countries not int he Eu and if this develops we will have no voice at all to the 17 who will vote in their interests. So Clegg has started to deride anyone suggesting the UK ought to renegotiate or get out of the EU. There is absolutely NO substance to what he says. But he is very committed to making the UK part of a single European state.

Let us not forget Clegg wrote that “all nations have a cross to bear, and none more so than Germany with its memories of Nazism. But the British cross is more insidious still. A misplaced sense of superiority, sustained by delusions of grandeur and a tenacious obsession with the last war, is much harder to shake off”.[38][39] The article was dusted down during the 2010 General Election campaign when the Daily Mail interpreted the article as being a “Nazi slur on Britain” . Time left office and lived in Germany.

I agree that each party should get £3.

          In total.

          • The Paragnostic says:

In Cobbetts time, MPs used to buy votes.

Now it is proposed that they are paid for them.

I am struggling to decide which is worse.

          • AC1 says:

With a 20 pound a year application fee.

          • How about having to pay £3 when you cast your vote? No £3, no vote. That way, the scheme costs nothing. Just an idea. Tax of the (coughs) Polish variety.

          • The Paragnostic says:

I was more tempted by the idea that the winning candidate would get 3 quid per vote.

Candidates could then choose whether or not to give the money to the party. It would create some interesting rows, and spread the cash further than the three ‘main’ parties.

          • Hmmm. Expenisve. My scheme costs the exchequer £9.00. Finito!

          • AC1 says:

I’d prefer one vote with every pound of tax extorted…

It would make for some “interesting” elections.

          • The Paragnostic says:

Would there be a discounted rate for postal votes?

Otherwise they’ll all be at it…

          • Tessa Tickles says:

            @AC1

I think that’s a good idea, but when the fatcat directors of FTSE100 companies have awarded themselves 49% pay rises (“we’re all in this together”), that does skew things a bit in favour of the country’s tosspots. (forgive me if I sound a bit socialist.)

Maybe a modification of your idea:
Benefit claimants and other assorted scroungers, including those whose benefit-payments are disguised as “civil service paycheques”: 0 votes each.
            Everyone else: 1 vote each.

          • The Paragnostic says:

TT – if you read the Speccie link at the top right, you’ll see the 49% rise wasn’t 49% at all, but 16%.

Besides, 50% of that goes straight to the Treasury, so on the whole it’s no bad thing.

Now if it was Town Clerks paying themselves 230K a year, I’d be upset. But it’s private industry, so as long as the shareholders are OK about it, it’s none of anyone else’s business.

I’d be inclined to go further than the 1 vote / 0 votes solution – weight votes by the net contribution to the country, so Wayne and Waynetta get -1 vote each.

          • Tessa Tickles says:

            @Paragnostic

            Fair enough, excellent point.

The Wayne and Waynetta thing is quite brilliant.

I was going to point that one out, too.

And let’s not point out that the NUM called miners’ strikes during the war – when our naval fleet ran on, erm, coal.

          • They ran on oil.
Churchill insisted the Navy change to oil in 1904. He teamed up with Jackie Fisher to thwart the Lordships who insisted that as we had plentiful coal, we should have coal powered ships. An nd the admiralty had decided that there wasn’t enough oil available in the world to supply a Navy the size of the RN.

But coaling was time consuming, and dirty. Coal couldn’t produce the power of oil for the same storage, so coal ships had shorter range and slower speeds. And coal ships couldn’t replenish at sea.

So in around 1910, Britain began to move to an all oil Navy.
HMS HOOD, for example, laid down mid-WW1 was an oil carrying ship.

Almost all the UK’s petroleum, fuel, navy oil and aviation fuel was supplied by Venezuela and the USA. Most of the Persian gulf oilfields that we occupied at that time were used to supply Russia.

But you are correct. Coal powered the factories and the furnaces and heavy industry that allowed construction. Without it, we would have been finished.

Kill two birds with one stone. State Benefits begin and end with state education. It presently costs about £120K to educate a kid in the state education system. Let’s up it to £150K (small class sizes, decent teachers). And that’s your lot. At age 17, a cheery wave at the school gate and you’re on your own. Want kids? Pay for them. Want healthcare? Pay for it. Want unemployment protection? Take out your own insurance.

          • AC1 says:

They should just not exist FULL STOP.

Government is a transfer agency so one family can be made richer only by making a few more families poorer + the bureaucratic overhead + the subsidy harms quality + the dysgenic effect on future generations + the social effect of disconnecting work and rewards.

Unless it’s me who’s making them scream, by burning their arms with a cigarette lighter, in which case they can scream as much as they (or, more accurately, I) want.

Janet Daly has a point really , it is not really a union in the co-operative sense ,its become suffer until you aquesce , alas the bust has made its mal intents that much clearer , all the gravy train riders/promoters should just take note that so many people are now without a job and have been given a huge debt to boot .
I have campaigned against the EU for many years now , often not been thought of well for it paticulary if you spoke out, we now have some journalists openly saying “we were right ” . The bit I had never really understood dawned on me a few days ago (not there is that much to understand about lavish franchised fraudulent collectiveism), for some time there had been various outbursts about modern cultural changes , the loss of traditional lunch in France as fast food appeared , the dissapearence of the Dolcha vita air in italy , the continual modernity of Spain , the tune of Beetovens 3rd came to mind , yes that tune meant the same thing in whatever EU country , the national anthems gone at all except footbal matches and foreign visits , the euro meant the same thing , the loss of national identity can be such a subtle thing , but when you realise it is being orchestrated , you feel a little different about the journey from nation to province.
Before WW1 there was this complex diplomatic arangement designed to stop the sort of war seen in the Napoleonic era , it perhaps was the origional concept for NATO , and yet you look on how the EU has become , and it is a corpratist construct that has taken hold , loobyiest for unelected leaders or presidents , you may think political mercenaries more apt , they swagger , ignore tarnsparent wishes or even honest questions.

It is obvious that what the EU intended could only end up being a wonk oppresive corpratist construct that would struggle to work ecnomically where the industrialised economies made real profit and the less industrialised could only spend on modernisation and wonk projects .

Now no one steps up to explain that a eurozone can and is working , the spun synthetic enthusiam has drained away , in part because no one can believe how these countries managed to rack up so much debt , when it was obvious there economies had relationally , always been deficet producing , and will continue to do so.

You have to admit that to be a politcian and not understand the basic dynamics , or question agregated debts , is a little stupid , Tony Blair one time heir to the biggest ponzi scheme yet engineered , a brilliant and clever man , now lookin on as no one is sure if “things can only get better” , what a euphonism a superstate anthem “ode to joy” with a souceres cash machine .
