The Darling of the BBC

So another good day for Labour Uncut, with a second round of leaked extracts from Darling’s “Back from the brink: 1000 days at No 11” this morning. Guido’s literary eyes-and-ears, who have seen a copy of the book, reckon yesterday’s snippets were bang on the money and deserved the follow-up coverage that they got. While yesterday there was silence from the BBC, today they have leapt all over one line about bankers:

“My worry was that they (the bankers) were so arrogant and stupid that they might bring us all down”.

Search as he might, Guido’s man can’t find this quote anywhere in the book. There could well be some Beeboid red faces next week if it turns out to be nonsense. Guido isn’t sure how lifting a blog story fits in with their triple sourcing lock, but they wouldn’t want anything to get in the way of a good banker bashing now would they?

Their print cousins also seem to have got things a little wide on the mark. Compare their article from November with their one yesterday:

Don’t believe everything you read in the papers…

UPDATE: The BBC get in touch to point out they did run the Darling story yesterday. On the website

They also say that they checked out yesterday’s quotes with the publisher. But are “attributing today’s to Labour Uncut”. Read into that what you will…

Lady Virginia Droit de Seigneur says:

The banking crisis was the culmination of a long series of policy mistakes around the world including but not limited to Carter and Clinton encouraging banks to lend to low income borrowers, the Republicans and Clinton repealing Glass-Steagall, Clinton allowing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to buy CMBS, Gordon Brown and Allan Greenspan flooding the market with liquidity after the dot.com boom collapsed, Gordon Brown and Ed Balls fucking up the UK regulatory environment and Gordon Brown fiddling the inflation calculation in the UK to remove house price increases resulting in interest rates being about 2 percentage points below where they should have been for 10 years.

All of this resulted in both credit conditions being too loose and excessive lending to people who were not creditworthy.

Alongside all of this was the economic time bomb of the Euro and the inability of the UK and US in particular to control government spending.

Brown was not responsible for many parts of the global issue but he was right at the centre of the UK’s disaster.

Indeed. And don’t let the greedy and/or stupid voters off the hook either.

All those who after, on average, 12 years of maths at school, really did think that it was entirely normal that their houses would go up 15% every single year even though the published rate of inflation was 3%. And, as a result their pay was only going up 3% per year (unless you were working for the government – in which case it was still ‘only’ going up 10% a year).

Yes, they thought to themselves. That is entirely normal. Nothing is being ‘fixed’ there. What could possibly be wrong with that scenario.

I shall vote Labour for more of this economic miracle.

Five years ago the houses were all affordable under Brown’s economic miracle. But now that they’re cheaper they’re suddenly unaffordable and it’s a fucking crisis.

“My worry was that the bankers were so arrogant and stupid that they might bring us all down.” Quote attributed to Alistair Darling.

Don’t worry, Darling. It wasn’t the bankers — or at least the four specific banks : RBOS, HBOS, Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley, all based in Scotland or the North, and all run by New Labour bosses — who might have brought us down.

It was the Labour Government, of which you were a member, and its insane level of public spending, which almost did bring us down.

But the publicly-funded BBC will always be there for you, so please don’t worry any more.

Right. Excellent. We’re looking to save a few quid since the fucking Imbecile she cheered to the rafters destroyed the economy.

Looks like we can save a fortune in education because Polly doesn’t seem to think it matters what kind of an education you receive – the good ones (such as herself presumably) will rise to the top. Cameron and Boris and Zac Goldsmiths parents were just p155ing their money away it seems. Their kids would have been successful no matter which school they’d have gone to.

      Polly says so.

With Polly as our guide we can slash education spending by 50%. At least. For starters. After all, she’s proven, with statistics – so it must be true, that no matter how shit state schools are the poor kids will rise to the top. In fact the shitter the schools the more poor people will rise to the top. She actuallysaid that. without the word ‘shit’ obviously.

Well, Labour have certainly made schools as shit as possible although I’m sure they could have made them that shit for about 10% of the cost.

Polly will now point to the success of the children of penniless Asian immigrants imported by the million to ‘prove’ the success of Labour’s education policy. Look, she will say, look how the poor have stormed the medical and law schools of the UK. Totally missing the point that the poor who have been successful will be massively skewed by the children of immigrants who have succeeded precisely because their parents believe in the value of education while the native, nth generation NEETS continue to fail precisely because their parents don’t value education no matter how much cash you throw at the fuckers.

Nothing at all to do with Fred Goodwin – instead it’s Balls allegedly telling ‘cabinet colleagues’ that he didn’t want to be chancellor back in 2009.

They really are a bunch of c*unts at the BBC.

    What next?

Will they be putting up stories from ‘The National Enquirer’ and running them as fact until somebody objects?

They might as well. They let the UK equivalent of ‘The National Enquirer’ host a Q&A on ‘social mobility today.

Mad old bat says ‘World War II bomber found on moon’ – print it as fact.

Mad old bat claims poor kids would have been more successful without grammar schools – print it as fact.

The BBC has given up all pretence at being a news organisation. It is now no better than Pat Robinson’s Christian Channel. Pure faith-based reporting of any old shit that chimes with their pre-conceived ideas.

Andy Coulson, the former editor of the News of the World, received several hundred thousand pounds from News International after starting work as the Conservative Party’s Director of Communications in July 2007. Mr Coulson has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in phone hacking and bribing the police. The payments were part of his severance package, under what is known as a “compromise agreement”.

The BBC is at war with the competition.

They want to maintain their position as monopoly supplier of ‘truth’ to the UK population.

They certainly don’t want any bastard like Murdoch challenging their cosy left-wing ‘consensus’.

Before we have a rush of “well obvious innit” , as a green campaigner I admit and appolgise in that i was taken in by quite a bit of the now seemingly baseless science , but so were others smarter than me . That aside there are other very important enviromental issues to do with how we live on this rock travelling at 36000mph around a big nuclear fusion reaction . Even if not man made climate change on big global populatiosn still has problems . even in amercia in nevada they have litterally built so may houses they are running out water , In india they are struggling too but mainly due to agriculture . if you visit any of the major river deltas they are just uncontrolled pollutant outflows to sea (and our fish that we eat).
these things are man made , are a threat to the enviroment and unlimately us

Surpised you didnt run comment by Ed Balls on veryfying being asked by the ruin if he wanted chancellors job ! “not really the right plan for me ”

I watched NN , half expecting bit of tussle over concreting the countryside between Simon Jenkins and Greg Clark to be errm a partial appology that policy is loose and wasnt ment to bring the worst of forced housing blight and communist planning to the countryside …… Now gregs style often does come across as a slippery sort of discussion however paxmans first question was instantly right , and Greg gave no reassurances of the sort that rural locations/greenbelt would be off the list as he would steam ahead with all other options first .
I think presentation wise the policy is a bit of dogs dinner , if planning no longer plans for the protection of the countryisde and rural landsacpes in a simple enough manner , then one cannot help but conclude that its been rodgered by lobby groups . indeed although the interview did not perhaps get round to some better questions on what Greg and this policy will do , you would have thought Greg would have been right on been with all the rural votes that played an important part in the conservatives succes , by not doing this or it seems there being a near total lack of anyone championing rural life and its contribution to the country , is beginning look like an arrogent two fingered slippery thankyou .

If I had my way , i would tell all these builders holding green belt land to sell it , and return it to productive agricultural uses , and then make it as near to impossible for such a scenario to return to lobby deals ever again . But why you may ask .

    1) no doubts a decent house building programme does help the economy , but so does a buffered food supply , and rural pusuits which will come under presuure as a direct result .

    2) there are empty houses , there are houses that need replacing and quite a bit of brownfield to go at first . By putting quality energy efficent housing in urban areas , it will reduce enegy consumption , reduced home energy consumption leads to more cash in pocket and improved economy in urban areas , it does not have same effect in rual areas .

    3) we are basically full , we farm intensively as it is , the goverment should be looking at close to sale , market gardens and so building on greenbelt when you may need to be growing stuff to help with transport costs , is mind numbingly dumb , and why the governement has staryed off this long term , idea is beyond me , as the future does seem to need a more local supply chain and reduced food miles .

    4) at 60% self sufficent in food I prseume greg hopes we all be able to eat cake or concrete to get by in the future .

Whilst some urban poor people dont really understand the countryside ,its a bit of a slog to find that the urban rich peoples view has become so short term oppertune , ultimately at the cost of agriculture and less presuursed sytems of farming . I dont think greg is thick , but my goodness , whoever is overseeing this policy is .I had just about had enough of Huhnes energy approach , but this is some sort of treachery of the sort i though we had voted out , and very dissapointing for those of us that helped boot the last lot out , horse lobby will be well chuffed by increased costs to feed and paddock .

Now let me think which party is it , that wants us out of the EU , safer farming systems and british jobs for british workers ?…………used to be the conservatives ………party shot self in the foot ……….I should say so , were getting treated like unwanted thick peasants again. Whole things gone islington dinner set/club for the pros again .

does either the times or telegraph want a ad hoc and eccentric interest columist that will piss unreservedly on the current westminster understanding of our country and enviromental matters , salary negotable can only do part time , write to useual address

The BBC includes every political belief within the broad church all inclusive BBC. The BBC is proud to give an equal amount of airtime to the left, the centre left, the left of centre and the far left which makes up the overwhelming majority of acceptable political views, in fact 99.9% of all normal people hold dearly to these political views and principles. The remaining 0.1% of the population who hold anti social vicious and evil right wing views get the positive airtime this tiny minority deserves which is none at all, their ugly racist fascist prejudice upsets the wonderful multicultural paradise that the BBC is determined to promote. The BBC represents the consensus that only the left offers the prospect of a perfect multicultural workers paradise, a consensus that is overwhelmingly socialist in nature. The tiny minority of antisocial criminal vermin who insanely support right wing capitalism must be hunted down and exterminated without pity. The right wing filth must be made to suffer for their insane criminality, their views must be wiped from the face of the earth and the BBC will make this a reality.

Rod Liddle on the loony UN sexism special rapporteur:

“There is more sexism in Britain than in any other country in the world, according to a mad woman who has been sent here by the United Nations.

Rashida Manjoo is a part-time professor of law at Cape Town University in the totally non-sexist country of South Africa (otherwise known as Rape Capital Of The World).

Mrs Magoo has been wandering around with her notebook and is appalled by the sexist “boys’ club” culture here, apparently.

I don’t doubt we still have sexism in the UK. But is it worse than in, say, Saudi Arabia, d’you think, honey-lamb? Or about 175 other countries? Get a grip, you doolally old bat.”
