Pilgrim’s Progress II

Remember our old friend Jane Pilgrim? The union staffer at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, who is paid a full time nurses salary not to nurse? She instead spends her days smearing Lansley. Well Guido hears that she was allowed to carry on as if nothing had happened, despite being busted running a private consultancy firm on the side, that used pictures of the hospital’s management, without their consent, as endorsements. Instead of being sacked, she was promoted by hospital managers to “management lead for trade unions.” Whatever that means.

While Pilgrim’s actions triggered outrage, with the issue of taxpayer funded union officials reaching Prime Minister Questions, and the government signalling a review into the practice, the original sinner and inspiration for the whole campaign has thus far got off very lightly. However Guido hears the net might be closing in on our old friend.

Geoff Thorne was a hospital porter and Secretary of the St George’s Hospital Unison branch. Like Jane Pilgrim he’s militant and ganged up with her to threaten a nurses strike at St George’s – as if it wasn’t enough that she wasn’t doing any actual nursing. Geoff had a cameo role in the Pilgrim saga when the Mail on Sunday outed him as Pilgrim’s lover and it emerged that he colluded in the lies spread about “meeting” Andrew Lansley, despite the fact that he boycotted the event with Pilgrim.

Well this morning Geoff Thorne was fired. Guido understands that this was for the leaking of confidential information, but is awaiting the official line. Geoff is not the only recent exit from St George’s Hospital in recent weeks. Within a few weeks of Guido breaking the Pilgrim mess back in May, the management at St George’s were cleared out. Normally, these sort of changes would happen as part of a bigger series of moves and restructuring. Not in this case – hospital sources are adamant that St George’s alone was singled out for the cleansing. The Chief Executive “resigned” and cleared his desk within 24 hours – without a replacement, two years early. Within days the Trust Chairman announced the end of her term.  Even though she was eligible for another two years. She used to have Labour Party posters up in her office…

New management has been brought in, and are apparently on a bit of a rampage. Jane isn’t off the hook yet…

You know what we do with looters in a time of National Emergency!
But this whole sorry saga is just a symptom of the dreadful NHS. I have recently seen two NHS Trust IT Directors waste over £100k on hardware that will not do the job because they needed another £20k to finish the installation but that they knew this extra money was not available, but when presented with a viable alternative that would have actually allowed them to deliver the service they wanted and save over £10k overall, they refused as it would make them lose face on the expenditure of the first £100k. They would sooner waste the money and not deliver the service rather than lose face. Even more amazing was that the management team were easily bamboozled by them.

Time to start really pruning the NHS its second only to the Education budget in waste and inefficiency, neither deliver anything like the service they should for the money spent on them and both are massively unaccountable.
We ARE in a state of National Emergency lets start rolling back that bloated State!

It is clear that things are not well at St George’s for any innocent entering A&E and that is for sure. St Georges staff under pressure? Heaven help the patients. Standards of basic healthcare are quite frankly, appalling despite the clinically clean environment with people being subjected to totally unecessary and health-debilitating procedures. Senior staff are duplicitous, patronising and deceitful. The complaints procedure is a bad joke designed to heap insult upon injury. Frankly, what used to be called concentration camps with medical experimentation have their modern equivalent in this institution. A huge banner should read ‘Abandon hope, all ye who enter here’ rather than ‘Welcome (Wellcom?) to St George’s’. I am sure I speak for thousands of unseen and unheard patients and their families. Not to mention the staff who continue to labour from love amidst a growing majority of cheap and callous careerists.

      EXTRACT from now defunct helpline

Our ‘duty of confidentiality’ is, and always has been, to our clients. We never have, nor ever will, release your details to a third party. That said, the general public have a legitimate expectation .. from time to time they reasonably expect us, as an anti-bullying organisation, to ‘speak out’ to further our cause in the interests of best practice and to campaign for a stress-free, bully-free, world. This is what we do. This does not mean to say that The National Bullying Helpline ever will, or ever has, breached client confidentiality. Our Mission is to continue to work towards eradicating anti-social behaviour in all corners of our society and occasionally that involves campaigning, speaking out and raising awareness.

Following inaccurate media reporting and public speculation in February 2010 it was ‘implied’ that we had breached both client confidentiality and data protection guidelines. This was not the case in fact. The Information Commissioners Office (The ICO) subsequently exonerated us of any such breach. We simply did not disclose personal names, personal details or facts relating to historic calls to our helpline – either to the Press or to any third party. We accused no one of being a bully and we placed no one at risk in any way.

The purpose of our media intervention in 2010 was to point out the importance of ‘due process’ as set out in the ACAS Code of Practice and to encourage employers to investigate matters thoroughly rather than make assumptions or (worse) make a public statement of denial. Employees, UK wide, should feel able to raise contentious matters in the workplace without fear of repercussion. In an ideal world there would be no need for an anti-bullying helpline.

The media storm of 2010 led to a significant increase in calls to our helpline which we were unable to service. This was due to both lack of funds and resources. This was most unfortunate because it became immediately apparent that there was an urgent need for a UK wide bullying helpline. That said, having provided a free telephone bullying helpline service for several years and finding that we continued to work in extremely stressful circumstances with no funding, we decided to close our telephone helpline down (see Trustee Statement below).

We are no longer a Charity. However, this website remains ‘your’ National Bullying Helpsite.

If you are struggling with a bullying, harassment, cyber-crime or anti-social behaviour issue today, we hope this Helpsite will enable you to identify solutions and remedies along with practical, affordable, professional support.

You must admit the blog is now almost entirely a succession of unsuccessful campaigns to get various people fired (excepting of course the equally doomed campaign to have people killed instead). Where is the joy? Where is the love? Why are right wingers always so angry? If you’re not trying to get people sacked you’re trying to get them hung or you’re out shooting them. I say let the healing begin.

But let’s remember the most important thing as Sarah Palin often reminds us. The right to purchase and bear assault rifles is a constitutional right. The right to purchase and bear grenades is a constitutional right. The right to purchase and bear rocket launchers is a constitutional right. Praise jesus. Earth is 7000 years old.

The right to bear arms is the greatest threat to any Government, hence why we have such draconian laws and is a safe guard from tyranny.

Just look at Switzerland as they have more automatic weapons per person than the US and even Hitler drew the line at invasion during the 1930’s.

The Left truly fear Palin and if you look beyond the usual BBC / Guardian propaganda and the anti Tea Party rhetoric she’s more of a worthy candidate and a US Thatcher imo.

This Bill shall have effect over all government departments, local government departments, quasi non-governmental organisations, quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisations, quasi-autonomous national government organisations, non-departmental public bodies, The National Health Service, Special Health Authorities, Arm’s Length Bodies or any other entity that is in receipt of public funds.

No such entity shall be permitted to fund or assist union or party political causes in any way, whether by cash, release of their staff to perform services, allowing use of their premises, equipment and vehicles or any other means not herein described. Any employee found to be in breach of this will render themselves liable to instant dismissal with loss of all outstanding pay, bonus, holiday entitlement, pension rights or any other benefits that may otherwise accrue. There is no appеаl procedure. This comes into effect from midnight tonight.
