But if the Left really did want equality, how come they’re not jumping up and down about the fact that women get more than 60% of all degrees awarded in UK, for example? If they wanted genuine equality, they’d want the 60+% figure to be as near as damn it equal to the relative proportion of women in society.

Frequently the left define their views and policies by merely being against those from whom they perceive as their enemy.

Tower Hamlets is an example of a phenomenon throughout Western Europe with the growth of Islamic confidence in the public arena.
The left don’t believe what they espouse, they simply use it to garner support from people with a grievance in order to achieve power. Then they grab all they can whilst f*cking everyone else. About as enlightened and progressive as the average third world despot. C*nts the lot of them.
I disagree. The left – at least some of them – do believe in certain things – like universal solidarity (hence anti-racism), the rights of workers as a contrast to the rights of the capital, the belief that capitalism must be controlled as it tends to monopoly and must the rights of the society should be respected – hence protection for the environment etc. However, since about 1985 they have been taken over by a mob of champagne socialists who have never done a days work outside of politics (and god forbid not in an office) in their lives. This is combined with the de-industrialisaton of the UK. The result is they have lost their traditional constituency – the working man, and have latched on to immigrants (anti-racism and universal solidarity) as a group worthy of their defense.
What they have not realised is that many of the aims and objectives of the groups they defend are totally alien to their own ideals.
The massive reduction in the old industries and the trades unions around them robbed Labour of a big enough natural constituency.As a result we have this “popular front”of all those claiming to be minorities taking their place.As you say,the aims and objectives of traditional Labour has little in common with this lot.

This could end in disaster, that I will not deny; but it could also become the first lesson in teaching the British people that their elected representatives, be they in the local council or parliament, can actually control the executive, be he mayor or PM.
