Hypocrisy of Diane Abbott Rolls On

Diane Abbott’s campaign has had a horrific week. She isn’t picking up much support and frankly every time she opens her mouth she shoots herself in the foot. It’s going to take her TV career, let alone backbench reputation a very long time to recover from her pasting by Andrew Neil on This Week last Thursday. Another week of the campaign begins with her saying something stupid…

She was straight out of the blocks today attacking IDS for his plans to allow people to move to areas where there are jobs available. Her criticism of the policy would be more credible if her parents hadn’t emigrated to the UK in the 1950s as part of a wave of economic migrants looking for work. Where would Diane Abbott be now if she her steel welder father hadn’t sought better career prospects somewhere new? Certainly not a contender for Leader of Her Majesty’s Most Loyal Opposition.

UPDATE : Punters give her and Andy Burnham each an outside 3% chance of becoming Labour leader.

Why? She didn’t resign as an MP or from the Labour party. She continued to campaign for them and continued to receive a salary to represent them. She stayed inside the tent and tutted – what is that worth? The tutting didn’t even harm her career prospects as she had none to begin with. I fail to see how she can be thought of as clean on what her Labour government did.

Just when it looked as if Diane had scuppered her chances of winning up pops Guido to save her bacon.
You are an intelligent fellow Guido but your underlying stupidity always and without fail manages to bubble up to the surface: what the fuck has the fact that Diane’s family came from the West Indies got to do with her position on arguing against moving the workforce to compensate for the employment policy failure of every government since the second world war?
West Indians were invited to this country to take jobs, whereas the Tories are telling people who live in areas of the country with no jobs to move and uproot their families to areas that have a few jobs more.
You really are an arse Guido, you have so much faith in the free markets it is quite quaint really.
The Tories have a long list of what is wrong with this country but no idea of how to fix it. Their lack of solutions to the fact that the private sector has failed to supply jobs to British workers is a classic example of that fact and your defending them by attacking Diane is, well, pathetic and uninformed.
But never mind your partisan whingeing, let us look at the bigger picture:
Who subsidises the privatised network? The taxpayer.
Who subsidises the nuclear industry? The taxpayer.
Who subsidises privatised bus companies? The taxpayer.
Who subsidises the bankers? The taxpayer.
Who subsidises private farmers? The taxpayer.
Who subsidises millioniares like David Cameron and George Osborne to pay their housing costs? The taxpayer.
The free markets have failed Guido.
            Your God is dead.
But do keep bleating on about Diane Abbott and Gordon Brown if it makes you feel better.
            You bloody fool.

15 insurgents killed by their own bombs in Afghan mosque
Kabul – Eight Arab, five Pakistani and two Afghan militants were killed when bombs they were making exploded prematurely inside a mosque in eastern Afghanistan, the Interior Ministry said Sunday.

The insurgents were assembling bombs in Desi Mosque of Yousifkhela district in the south-eastern province of Paktika on Friday, the ministry said.

Pakika borders the Pakistani town of Wana, where Taliban militants are said to have training bases. Afghan officials have repeatedly blamed Islamabad for not doing enough to clamp down on cross-border infiltration by insurgents.

In the northern province of Kunduz, several Taliban fighters including a foreign insurgent commander were killed Saturday by a NATO airstrike in Chardarah district, NATO said on Sunday.

‘After verifying insurgent activity and conducting careful planning to avoid civilian casualties and mitigate collateral damage, coalition aircraft were called in for the precision airstrike,’ it said.

The targeted commander coordinated logistical support and operations ‘with the Taliban’s Pakistan foreign fighter cell leadership,’ it said.

      Animal says:

Socialism destroys ambition, replacing with an acceptance of being mediocre, shouting for equality and democracy while actively demolishing the very foundations of these two pillars of freedom.

When and where it succeeds in its aims socialism then uses conscience and blind, aimless accusations to keep the very people it has subjugated in check, harnessing fear and jealousy to discourage citizens from thinking for themselves. It hides behind a paper wall of concern for the weak and disadvantaged to oppress opportunity, progress and freedom.

Socialism doesn’t care about those who need help, it only thinks about the machine it creates and the depth to which it can worm into society, rewarding its most ardent supporters handsomely while treating all others with contempt.

Socialism creates and guides ignorant groups to bully, coerce and manage populations, removing personal responsibility and creating an overlord that has intrudes into every single aspect of life.

Socialism is an evil manifestation that stole the ideals of caring for one’s neighbour, twisting the concept into a concept that at its very core requires all people to conform, be submissive and not question the body politik.

Socialism is an apoptosis that threatens our very existence, and should be challenged wherever the parastical stench it gives off appears.

Destroy socialism in the UK. Vote Diane Abbott.

        Archer Karcher says:

It doesn’t and never was intended to. The working class have been converted via welfare, into an underclass. They could never compete with unskilled workers coming from countries where the monthly wage is $25 and who would work for less than minimum wage without complaint.
Without any form of real border and immigration control, the only other temporary solution was to buy the former working class off, with bloated welfare and benefits. Now the money has all gone and what is there to show for it?
Millions of unskilled, badly educated and next to useless, predominantly male ( the Chantay’s and Crystal’s of the underclass, have three kids etc, so are untouchable and know it ) members of the underclass which was created deliberately, are now to be sent to “work” for employers who, would find great difficulty in employing any of them meaningfully in the first place.
Until and unless uncontrolled immigration from ALL sources is addressed, there can be no meaningful solution. Until and unless education and a work ethic is re-established among the idle and feckless, there will always be a massive pool of unwanted and unemployable potential workers, who will turn to illegal activity, when the state money is turned off.
Start building the new prisons now, we are going to need them very soon indeed. The tragedy of course is, that this ALL could have been avoided.

The problem is, if it weren’t so pathetic, that this is one of the best that labour has to offer as a potential opposition leader. The labour party has nobody of any leadership potential, all the candidates are either weak, idiots or not from this planet. In one Mr Balls case, all three! The main problem is, as I see it is:- When one of these chipmunks (apologies to chipmunks as they tend to have more personality than the pretenders) gets elected there is a strong possibility that, due to all the unpopular measures being undertaken by the Conservative Coalition, the mindless masses vote a labour government back into power. This would result in the resurrection of the Mandelson tribe and it attaining power again, as non of these potential leaders have half a wit nor the presence to deal with them. So again the mainstream British Electorate will be made to suffer. (That’s if they (we) have not all fucked off on our bikes to live where the grass looks a bit greener)

It would be a disaster for Labour if the long term unemployed “got on their bikes” and found work in areas of the country where it is more available. Labour’s long term strategy is to maintain growing “communities” of state employees, the unemployed, and immigrants, in the urban contituencies of South Yorkshire, Merseyside, Scotland, and other deprived areas. This effectively buys them dozens or rotten boroughs, which return the most senior and most loathsome Labour MPs to parliament every few years.

Diane Abbott, and the rest of the parliamentary Labour party, would much prefer to poor and the unemployed to stay right where they are, keep cashing the benefits cheques, and keep stuffing the postal votes.

“the blogs were right about the financial disaster all along and saw it coming a couple of years before the fed/BoE govenments and were far more accurate in dissecting the actual causes and who was to blame”.
The blogosphere got it right and they got it wrong, the so called stimulus was a massive failure making many very rich and great many very rich extremely rich. The smart money got out of stocks at the top and bought again at the bottom and in so doing made eye watering amounts of money, if that aint the definition of insider trading then I am a camel. The stimulus has largely been either stolen wasted or diverted to help the political classes election prospects.
No wonder then that the scum sucking pigs dont want people getting their news from blogs, the MSM has not yet covered or investigate just why the blogs were right and why the so cvalled experts were wrong. Perhaps because the MSM took copy from the experts instead of actually investigating the facts.

Contrary to the sockpuppet who has used my moniker, I hold no brief for Arthur Scargill.
But there was one thing he was right about, the fact that we have 300 years worth of coal under our very feet.
And thanks to Margaret Thatcher’s misguided policy of shutting down the mines we now have to import coal at an extortionate price to supply half of our electricity needs.
The Conservatives degraded this country’s energy security and it could be argued that a consequence of Tory policy to shut the mines was the invasion of Iraq to steal their oil.
And as the technology of carbon capture is progressing at such a rapid pace it is time we started re-opening coal mines in this country to exploit the hundreds of years worth of supply of energy this country has to offer instead of paying vast amounts of money importing coal and wasting taxpayers’ money subsidising the nuclear industry.

Engineering and Steel have not gone. There have been losses, particularly in the last decade, but what is left is lean, mean and competitive on the global stage. Industry is far more productive, and the labour force skilled and, in general, motivated. There are few vacancies for the semi-skilled and the unskilled numpties that industry used to carry (unwillingly) as passengers.

What’s needed now is investment, or tax-breaks to support, training at craft, technical and professional levels. The demographic of skilled and experienced workers is getting older, new blood is needed to replace retirees and to provide the labour for expansion of manufacture, infrastructure renewal and technical innovation.

The primary and secondary education standards have to improved, and quickly. Industry has no use for semi-literate numpties; unfortunately, some in the educatio establishment are under the misapprehension that engineers and craftsmen don’t need to read, write or cope with basic mathematics; they are spectacularly wrong.

I’d agree, but I think that we’ve lost much of our skills base already – particularly hand skills. I’d like to see a rapid return to indentured apprenticeships. I’ve had reasonably well qualified young engineers working for me in recent years and have always had to get them trained up to use hand and power tools competently and with a sense of pride in their own standards of work and craftmanship. Actually their qualifications matter very little, but their attitudes to work are crucial.

I think it depends what they are expected to do. The capabilities of modern machine tools means that there is little need for fitters to be able to file flat or scrape parts to fit (except in special situations) so there isn’t much point in teaching these skills (yes – I can do both, and have great respect for those who can do them well and quickly). However, I agree that a truly skilled craftsman can do more than his day-to-day responsibilities call for, so that he can cope with the unusual situations that crop up from time to time.

Point(s) taken, but what we’re really missing is the attitudes. Learning to file and polish a radius is an art as well. What it does do is teach a real appreciation of quality workmanship. That understanding and admiration can be applied to a vast number of different enterprises – from watchmaking to building cathedrals. Machine tools are a means to an end, after all. It also imparts a real insight into the basis of design and execution.

The great advantage of apprenticeships was they also developed people skills – the ability to exchange ideas in writing and speaking, the ability to work and live with others. Many of the young people I’ve dealt with have been hardly able to put an intelligible sentence together. That is a disaster, and the measure of the appalling failures of our ‘education system’. Some of this can be remedied, but if the attitudes aren’t right then it’s very difficult to inculcate them. The master/pupil (mentoring) relationship is very effective in those circumstances – in my view and experience.

It’s the same with cookery. And even in PE some lessons are devoted to writing reams of notes about health and fitness rather than going outside and actually playing competitive sport.

Actually, those Labour strongholds would remain just that. Think about it.

The not so feckless move away, presumably to tory areas where sensible companies start businesses. Once settled the incomers either become tories, increasing the safeness of the area or they remain socialists and reduce the safeness.

Meanwhile back in the old slum the truly feckless remain. As dole scrounging welfare scum they remain socialist to the core as do their constituencies. As these areas fall further into decay we find the immigrants get shoved in there further reinforcing the socialist voter base.

And since both feckless welfare scrounging underclass and immigrants tend to breed like rabbits, there’s little chance of the population ever declining enough to motivate a reduction in the number of seats (even if the electoral commission could be bothered to check).

Second – tackle immigration and stop areas becoming ghettoes.

Third – The Asian are conservatives at heart and it is the fault of the Tories that they haven’t got the Asian vote.

Why do hard working immigrants want to vote for a Labour Party who take all their hard earned cash away and waste it on the feckless? You talk to an Asian business man about his money being spent on the workshy. Ask them why they don’t vote Tory and they will tell you about “that leaflet” in a Smethwick bye election.

    Helpful says:

This argument is a rerun of those in the 70s and 80s. Council tenants in one area wouldn’t take an offer of a job in another area because they wouldn’t get access to council accomodation in another area: in fact they would go to the bottom of the list for accomodation in the new council area. A system was brought in to permit points accrued in one council area to be transfered to another and so on. None of it really worked. There are two issues, loss of council accomodation in the home area and the inability to obtain new council accomodation in a new area. Bringing in some system of transferring tenants between council areas will not work it will run into all the problems previously experienced. The first thing is to reduce the amount of “affordable accomodation” under Council control in the various areas and the second thing is to incentivise the council tenant to seek work. I propose a new system of Council House sales. 1. If they move to another area for work, allow them to rent the current council house out to new tenants subject to a suitably restrictive lease. 2. If they manage to obtain a job and maintain themselves in full time employment for two years or more allow them to buy the council house at a substantial discount to its market value. Allowing to buy the council house at a discount would reduce the amount of accomodation under council control, two years would allow them to develop the skills required to keep a job and the sale of the house at a discount would give them a powerful discount to seek and keep the job. It would also reduce the payroll cost to the state of having them on unemployment benefit. Obviously you could play around with this but the secret would be minimise state involvement so it becomes a market mechanism as far as possible. Ideally councils should not be involved in the provision of housing at all, whilst most of the “affordable” accomodation is under the control of councils this problem will persist.

“Allow them to buy council houses at a substantial discount”? Yeah – lets reward those who don’t work by giving them the properties paid for by those who do. And all those doing the right thing by working 40 years to pay off a mortgage, welcome to your new neighbours – they have a bigger house and garden than you, and they own it whereas you’ve 10 more years yet, but hey you have the moral high ground because you did the right thing.

If they work for say two years it will get them off benefits and build a cv that enables them to continue getting jobs. It would also help them to acquire the work habit, ie., getting out of bed and going to work. It will reduce the amount of accomodation under council control, a major contributor to lack of social of mobility. It mean that they are less able to claim benefits in the future because of capital in their own home. It would reduce the “client vote” for Labour. Pretty helpful. Doing nothing will mean that they continue in unemployment for generation after generation voting Labour; pretty unhelpful! If IDS brings in some sort of system which allows council tenants to move between areas it won’t work just as it didn’t last time round.

Such a naive view of how people actually game this system can only be found in the people completely out of touch with how folk live at this level. Pampered tories born as millionaires, like Cameron and never-worked-at-all Osborne might be easily convinced.

The thing about this, and the other privatised industries the tories gave away, is that it was never theirs to do so in the first place. People paying for decades had bought these already. Why should a here today gone tomorrow administration be allowed to hand them out on a whim? Once they are gone that’s it. It’s not just the tories, the loony left in Liverpool is famous for demolishing most of the fantastic Victorian architecture which even Hitler couldn’t touch: http://tinyurl.com/cnyv4a No change of administration is going to bring any of this back, and that’s a Cast Iron guarantee you *can* believe for once.

If you keep doing the same thing you keep getting the same result. It is worth trying to do something to break the cycle of dependency. I would prefer it that the State was not involved in the provision of accomodation but we are where we are. The reason why Council House sales and privatisations were attractive to policymakers in the 80’s was that it created winners as well as losers. The winners typically did well and so created a constituency in favour of the change. If all Government policy does is attempt to engender change by creating losers the policy will be resisted. I know it might not be palatable to people who are low on the social scale seeing other people being given a leg up but this isn’t about a short term advantage. If nothing is done the non-economically active part of our society will steadily increase and become more embedded: the cost will go up exponentially year on year. Making them active participants and stakeholders in the society that surrounds them is worth a price.

It’s similar to the “arrrrrhhhhh” that many politicians start their answers with (again, stalling for time). Strangely, Dara O’Brien, the piss-poor stand-up comic, ends all of his sentences with this very same sound.

When David Cameron was leader of the opposition, he was asked how many homes he owns:

Cameron then began to get strangely confused, said he might own four homes after all, and pleaded: “Do not make me sound like a prat for not knowing how many houses I’ve got.”

The millionaire (inherited) David Cameron and the millionaire (inherited) Gideon Osborne have just cut housing benefit.
