Saatchis Sharpen Tory Message

Don’t believe the spin about Euro RSCG still being the Tories main advertising agency.  Saatchi are back and one CCHQ insider told Guido that the problem with Euro RSCG was very simple: “they’re shit.”

These ads are simple and direct, forget Fink’s policy nuancing, forget fiscal details of tax and spend, on election day the choice facing voters is this: “Do you want five more years of Gordon Brown or not?” That is what it will boil down to in the voting cubicle when the curtain is drawn.  If the Tories can frame the vote as a vote for or against Gordon Brown they will win.

Gordon is a huge negative for the Labour Party.  Glad to see that someone at Saatchi agrees with Guido that Gordon’s gold sales debacle is worth putting to the people…

Surely its £170 billion a year borrowing and liebor intend to continue borrowing at this rate for the next 5 years promising to bring the rate of borrowing down to 50% or £85 billion a year by 2015. By then our national debt will have risen into the realm of TRILLIONS!

So much for fiscal responsibility. Prudence was buried years ago!

          Obama the Dave hero says:

Cameron borrows can-do-better attitude from ‘brilliant Barack’

The man who could be America’s first black president won ringing praise yesterday from the man who could be Britain’s 19th old Etonian prime minister.
David Cameron said he hugely admired Barack Obama, the front-running contender for the Democrat nomination, and vowed to bring some of the same spirit to the British political debate.

“I’m enjoying watching Barack Obama. I think he’s a brilliant speaker, I think his optimism and sense of hope for the future is inspiring a lot of people. It’s great to see. Too often [politics] gets down to hope and fear and I think it’s wonderful when hope wins. I’m enjoying watching him, I must say. I think he’s compelling,” Cameron told Radio 5 Live’s Breakfast programme.

“What people like is the sense that Obama generates, that we don’t have to be like this, we can do better… I think we need that same sense of possibility here.”

“He is a very easy person to talk with, to exchange views with. He’s an incredibly impressive politician and leader but he’s also an extremely personable human being and someone it’s easy to get on with and to strike up a relationship with.”

The Tory message needs to be as bold and simple as “Cashcroft”, pointless but very catchy. Most people who vote really don’t have the luxury of walling about on Guido, Labourlost or Conhome all day and finessing and nuancing are wasted exercises.

You can’t surely blame the Great Leader for the credit crunch, can you? I mean, removing house prices from the inflation figures to keep interest rates artificially low and encourage massive levels of debt was the right thing to do. We needed to punish those horrid, baby-eating savers, just as we did those who selfishly built up pensions for their old age.

    Peasant says:

Don’t forget about the underdog vote.

Major won in 92 not because of the silly soapbox but because he was seen as the underdog. Saatchi can only do one thing: be negative. They are trying to please Coulson so they are coming out with the most negative posters they can think about. But at this stage in the election it is too early. They will turn the public off the posters and hence they will not be effective. These posters, if they really do go to seven, will be counter productive, because they will bring out the underdog reaction in people. The time for posters like these is in the last week, not 6 weeks out. Bad strategy move by Coulson/Osborne who haven’t a clue how to run an election.

Just a clue to CCHQ, if you want better poll figures, get some policies out and get some policies that people like. Broken Britain (ie “you all are shit!”) does not work. Austerity (ie “we will make it shit for you”) does not work. And no more hugging huskies please!

        That’s right Ted

Peasant attacks the Tories on a negative campaign — WTF!!!!

Labour election campaign so far has been a lying, deceitful, misrepresentation, propaganda smear putsch of “The Tories will do this, the Tories will do that.

Just look at Ed Balls on the Red Andy show this morning.

Mandelson said “In my experience of these things, parties which shout about dirty tricks and the like tend to do so because they fear a direct hit in some vulnerable part of their political anatomy”. Peasant bitching about a negative Tory campaign is a physical No 10 bunker manifestation of Mandelson’s concern.

I would love Saatchi to come out with something like

        1997 to 2010
Govt Borrowing from £27 bn to £163 bn
Govt Debt from £347 bn to £799 bn
        Growth from +3.3% to -5.0%
        Inflation from 1.9% to 3.0%

          • Mr Ned says:

The tories cannot come out with their policies until labour publishes their manifesto or else labour will just copy the tory’s manifesto and then lie about it. That said, the problem is that despite being a few weeks from the election, labour has not written its manifesto yet.

In the election that Brown was too much of a coward to call in 2007, they had the poster sites booked, they had the leaflets printed, they had all the limousines hired to take Ministers onto the election hustings. But they had NOT written the manifesto. They had everything ready except the policies and all they have done since is flounder about in cowardly and inept knee-jerking mistakes ever since. They ONLY strategy they have left is telling blatant lies about everything and try to spread as much negativity and fear as possible, whilst running way from their own record in power as fast as possible.

They are relying on not calling an election so that the BBC is not yet obliged in law to give equal coverage to the top three parties, and the BBC is wasting NO time at all in broadcasting naked propaganda for the labour party.

That is why there have been election specials and the finance minister’s debates and everything that an election campaign needs to be an election campaign, EXCEPT the date of the fuckin election!

Brown is using every sleazy, lie-filled and dishonest trick in the book to try to steal this election. But then I predicted that he would do exactly that. because that is exactly the sort of disgusting and revolting piece of cowardly shit-for-brains fuckwit this Gordon Brown twat is!

          • Mr Ned says:

How do you tell the truth about Brown’s record in power without being negative? It is impossible. If you refer to Brown’s record without being negative, then you are either lying or delusional.

If the tories are being negative about the labour record in power, and Brown’s role in that in-particular, then they are running an honest campaign.

All they are saying is that the debt will continue increasing and that the rate of increase will only half (in increase terms not percentage of total debt) in 2014.

They are offering NO debt reduction at all.

If the increase is calculated on a compounded basis , it would be even more horrifying as the debt would have grown year on year.

        Mr Ned says:

Instead of borrowing and then wasting 176 billion more pounds than we earn per year, we will only borrow and waste 88 billion per year more than we earn as a Government.

Halving the deficit, means that the increase in borrowing continues at a slower rate, but it still is an increase in borrowing.

Labour have to CUT expenditure by over 80 Billion pounds annually and you can bet that it will not be their politically correct diversity and climate change officers or the army of state spies that this Fascist government have empowered to enter our homes or the army of health and safety fascists that will be cut. They will slash school places, sack teachers, close hospitals sacking nurses and all the time claim that they are not cutting these places, these are decisions taken by local authorities and that the tories would be cutting further and deeper anyway!

I complained that this was happening and they got the FTAC to order the police to abduct me from my home and lock me up in a mental hospital for five months. I was told that none of this happened and I was being delusional. I was never allowed to present evidence to prove it.

When I finally got to have an appeal against my imprisonment it was chaired by the wife of Keith ‘he owes me one’ Vaz, Maria Fernandes. She and her fellow tribunal member’s questions humiliated the ‘doctor’, Ferdinand Jonsson, who was acting on instructions to detain me. They recognised that there was no clinical ground to hold me. It was my solicitor that mentioned that there may be a political component to my detention, which shocked the tribunal members. They promptly discharged me.

If you are right and I don’t disagree with your observation concerning the decline in even mild religious belief in Britain, then it will be the first time in the history of civilisation that a society has functioned without moral structures underpinned by the ceremony of a myth.

Religion, like all things created by people in a culture, can be used for good or evil, but it is an underpinning element in social cohesion.

My bet is that even the secularist finds it difficult to explain the drama of life and death, good and evil in anything other than very cliched terms.

But it is an interesting experiment. Let’s see whether it works for more than a few decades or whether the social chaos people feel around them does not pull them together again to find a new ‘certainty’ even in a myth.

Horror as Cameron brandishes the B word

DAVID CAMERON, the young pretender to the Tory throne who came close yesterday to embracing Tony Blair in his conference speech, has already done so in private.
Mr Cameron, 38, who has put a modernising agenda at the centre of his campaign, clearly enjoys the comparisons that have been made between him and Labour’s most successful modern-day Prime Minister.

At a dinner with newspaper executives on the eve of his address, he took the comparison a step further. “I am the heir to Blair,” he said. If his hosts were in any doubt about what they had heard, Mr Cameron repeated the mantra. He also said that a Cameron Tory Government would not reverse all of the Blairite reforms in the public services.

His hosts were, to say the least, taken aback. Mr Cameron was guest, in the Louis Room at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool, of The Daily Telegraph, house journal of the Conservative Party. The spirit of Margaret Thatcher, who was even praised by Kenneth Clark yesterday, still beats strongly in the editorial conferences of the newspaper.

Charles Moore, the former Editor who was at the dinner, is the official biographer of Baroness Thatcher, whose admirers include . . . Tony Blair. Mr Cameron, who was accompanied by his wife, Samantha, the creative director of a stationery company, was not isolated in the intimate gathering.

George Osborne, the Shadow Chancellor and fellow member of the so-called Notting Hill set of young modernising Tories, was also at the dinner table. Mr Osborne, defending the heir to Blair boast, said: “We have nothing to be ashamed of in saying it.”

Martin Newland, the Editor of The Daily Telegraph, which has yet to declare for any of the five candidates, was not so sure. “David,” he said. “I would not repeat that outside this room.”

A move in the right direction. The gloves need to come off. They wishy washy over sophisticated bell ends at CCHQ have been a disaster. It wouldn’t have mattered so much if Cameron himself were not so wishy washy himself but that’s not the point. Getting Labour out, is the point, with messages that ordinary folk can relate to, as we can take things on from there. Headline and highlight Labour’s big lies and then go for it! Hopefully Saatchi can sort this end of the equation out. Selling gold? That’s not the half of it. My personal favourites would be:

Brown lying to the country about his under-funding our servicemen at war.

British Jobs for British workers… (the elephant in the room time)

Labour’s EU referendum election commitment lie. Yes I know Dave has copped flak for his cast iron flim-flam, but the only way to lance the boil of the issue is to highlight that it was LABOUR IN GOVT who reneged on the commitment, leaving everyone else to pick up the pieces. On Monday Osborne will join the chancellor, Alistair Darling, and the Liberal Democrats’ shadow chancellor, Vince Cable, in an hour-long Channel 4 debate, Ask the Chancellors. The event, which is being seen as a crucial test for all three parties, follows a poll, taken after last Wednesday’s budget, which showed that more people now trust Labour under Brown and Darling to run the economy than trust Cameron and Osborne.

The ComRes poll for BBC2′s Daily Politics found that 33% back Labour to do the job best, compared with 27% for the Tories – a reversal of the December poll when the same question was put

      Old Dear says:

      bit of a chancer

“Consider” isn’t quite how it was. At 17 and with two O-levels to show after a couple of attempts, a career path wasn’t realistic, nor a chat with the Christ’s College careers officer, who wouldn’t have recognised me in any event as my absenteeism record was unrivalled. I answered a situations vacant ad in the Evening Standard for a voucher clerk, pay £10 weekly. It was in a tiny advertising agency in Covent Garden, and a voucher clerk had to traipse round all the local newspaper offices in Fleet Street – of which there were hundreds at the time – and pick up back copies of papers in which the agency’s clients had an advert appearing. The voucher clerk’s role was to get the newspaper, find the ad, stick a sticker on it so the client could verify its appearance, and the agency could get paid. Vital work, obviously. One of the advantages of it being a tiny agency was that one day they got desperate when their creative department (one young man) was off sick, and they asked me if I could try and make up an ad for one of their clients, Thornber Chicks. This ad was to appear in Farmer and Stock-Breeder magazine, and hoped to persuade farmers to choose Thornbers, as their chicks would grow to provide many cheap, superior quality eggs and a fine return. I didn’t know how you wrote an ad, or indeed how to write anything much other than “I will not be late for assembly”, for which I had been provided much practice. So I looked through copies of Farmer and Stock-Breeder and Poultry World, chose some inspiring-sounding words and phrases, cobbled them together, stuck on a headline – I think I stole it from an old American advertisement – and produced “Ask the man who owns them” as a testimonial campaign featuring beaming Thornber farmers. The client bought it.

an immediate five year freeze on immigration for permanent settlement. Any future immigration should not exceed 50,000 per annum, including dependents (actual, not net).
        2. Britain must regain control of her borders. This can only be done by leaving the European Union. Entry for work purposes will be by temporary work permit visa only, issued for
designated periods of time on a strict points based system. Entry for non-work related
purposes (e.g. holidays and study) would be by means of a temporary visa. Overstaying a visa would be a criminal offence. All EU citizens who came to Britain after 1st January 2004 would be treated in the same way as citizens from other countries. Non UK citizens travelling
to or from the UK will have their entry and exit recorded. The UK Borders Agency staff engaged in immigration control will be tripled from 10,000 to 30,000 to implement this.
        3. After the five year freeze any future immigration for permanent settlement would be on a strictly controlled points based system similar to those of Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Editors are charged to ensure that over a reasonable period they reflect the range of significant views, opinions and trends in their subject area. The BBC does not seek to denigrate any view, nor to promote any view.

I would like to assure you that I have registered all of your comments on our audience log for the attention of BBC programme makers and senior management. The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content. All feedback we receive, whether positive or negative, is always appreciated.

Thanks again for taking the time to e-mail us with your concerns.

A vote for other than the Conservatives is a vote for the following scenario:

•An immediate gilts crisis, with interest rates spiking up following the absence of a Conservative victory
•A totally inadequate attempt to placate the bonds markets by spelling out in a bit more detail the government’s pitifully inadequate “plan”
•The IMF summoned in within three years of the Election (for the third time in just over forty years)
•Britain’s nuclear weapons are removed within five years
•Britain’s security council seat is lost within eight years
•Britain joins the euro within ten years, and becomes an enthusiastic participant in the Single European State
•British Conservatism, the main philosophy of British government for hundreds of years, perishes in a European Christian Democrat sea

      Spectrum says:

      Meaning of the Color Blue

Meaning, symbolism and psychology of color

Blue is the overwhelming “favorite color.” Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable and committed. The color of sky and the ocean, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives.

As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming; however not all blues are serene and sedate. Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic, an engaging color that expresses exhilaration.

Some shades or the overuse of blue may come across as cold or uncaring. Blue is the least “gender specific” color, having equal appeal to both men and women.

How the color blue affects us physically and mentally
      * Calming and sedate
      * Cooling
      * Aids intuition

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

Unfortunately for Gordon the economic consequences shield is breaking down. Poor Gordon. My heart bleeds.

During the 1997 campaign, a pledge card with five specific pledges was issued and mentioned in the manifesto too. The pledges were:

          1. Cut class sizes to 30 or under for 5, 6 and 7 year-olds by using money from the assisted places scheme

          2. Fast-track punishment for persistent young offenders by halving the time from arrest to sentencing

          3. Cut NHS waiting lists by treating an extra 100,000 patients as a first step by releasing £100 million saved from NHS red tape

4 Get 250,000 under-25 year-olds off benefit and into work by using money from a windfall levy on the privatised utilities.

          5. No rise in income tax rates, cut VAT on heating to 5 per cent and inflation and interest rates as low as possible

We get all the press stuff here regurgitated by the host and it gets commented on, the political parties hire wide boys who see these comments, nick the obvious ones and knockup some cheap posters for the campaign, which then gets reported in the press, which gets reported here and commented on, and so the circle of life continues.

Where have they been hiding them this last thirteen years then?

No-one at the time had reason to disbelieve him because scarlett, MI5 etc said it was true!!

At the same time nobody in the HoC would have predicted that gordon would be so evil and so eaten up with hatred of bliar that he tried to make sure the Iraq campaign would fail, cutting £1.4billion from the Armed Forces Helicopter budget leaving them exposed to attacks on the ground , failing to fund body armour.

He kept it up when he took over, depriving the Afghan Campaign of Helicopters, Ridgebacks, Body Armour and detectors for IED’s.

            Failed short term.

Ruling class solved the problem with violence and immigrants from the Low Countries.

London Workers reacted by unleashing pogroms on immigrants.

Not a brilliant chapter in English History.

‘The paper discusses Flemish immigrants in London in the fourteenth
and fifteenth century. It focuses on a particular case study, violence
directed against Flemings in the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, and argues
that aggression against Flemings was part of a developing discourse of

    concrete pump says:

Terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda has announced that 2,000 jobs are to go, mostly in its Western Europe Terrorism Division. The cut-backs, announced yesterday, are part of a scheme to streamline Al-Qaeda’s operations and help it maintain its position as the world’s “number one terrorist network”.

Patricia Al-Fayarya, HR Director at Al-Qaeda, says that the cuts are necessary in order to maintain operational efficiencies, stating that “it is unfortunate that we have to let people go in this economic climate, but what these now redundant terrorists have to realise is that they were never even paid in the first place. They can still achieve their dreams – and the promise of virgins in the afterlife is not just an Al-Qaeda promise, but one that is made to all young terrorists, so we fully support them in their future ambitions. However, those ambitions will not be achieved with AQ.”

She continued: “We need to appreciate the fact that we are an extensive organisation and we need to keep an eye on costs. It’s not cheap flying all these kids out from Bradford to Afghanistan or Pakistan – and some of them want to fly first class as well. That’s not happening.”

The terrorist network will now focus its attention on the more profitable Middle East arena, with new offices opening up in Yemen and Somalia. However, due to the mass of local talent in the area, there will be no relocation opportunities for those made redundant in this latest round of job cuts.

The news at Al-Qaeda’s bomb factory in Wakefield was met with dismay. Wasim al-Killya said that he would go back to working at his Dad’s shoe factory until something came along: “It’s either that or the bakery, and I’ve got a slight allergy to wheat, so the shoe factory it is. It’s the third time I’ve been made redundant, too. I’ve applied to ETA, the real IRA, and even thought of starting my own SME terrorist business, so you know – things might happen soon.”

At least 200 terrorists joined the queues at the Job Centre in Bradford yesterday, on what was labelled “a somewhat chilling, but busy” day by Job Centre staff. “We simply couldn’t cope,” said Valerie Sansespoir, who works at the Job Centre. “They were coming in asking for any potential bombing opportunities, and the closest we could get was a part-time job as a demolitions executive down the road in Leeds, but they didn’t want to travel. These poor terrorists, I mean, they spend their lives training for one thing and then Al-Qaeda shut down half of their centres – no pun intended, but this unemployment thing is a ticking timebomb.”

“Some of them, however, have to downgrade their expectations. Al-Qaeda’s benefits package of unlimited virgins in the afterlife is great, but Gregg’s are offering retail vouchers and a free sausage roll for lunch every day, so it’s swings and roundabouts, really.”

£6bn lost on selling the UK’s gold at the wrong time is small beer.
£600bn+ of extra debt through miss-management of the public finances. That should big story.
    How?
From 2001 to 2007, National Debt rose by 15% of GDP. This was during the boom years, when it should have been at least constant.
In the 2007, at the peak of the cycle, the structural deficit was around 4% of GDP. This will remain until at least 2014, even on the Chancellor’s optimistic figures. That makes an increase in debt of 28% of GDP.
Total 43% is around £600bn. Then there is compound interest to add.
Most of the UK debt crisis is down to Labour.

      Atlas shrugged says:

I don’t think you are getting the full picture. If it was only these people we had to worry about, we would not have a problem worth worrying about.

Zionism is far more then the existence of a State in Israel or all that has or has not gone with it.

International terrorism has simply been CREATED to replace created conflicts between nations, or other created political concepts. The rulers of the world care little by which method they choose to greatly assist their rule over their planet, as long as they largely rule over it and ultimately rule over all of it. However there is a fundamentally important reason why this particular horror show has been staged to happen in precisely this part of the world.

Which is to ultimately create the conditions for a utterly controlled one world religion to work along side their utterly totalitarian one world government. How many Muslim Christian or J’wish bodies this is achieved over is any ones guess. It goes with out saying that it will be measured in millions, while the chaps calling ALL of the shots don’t really give a toss how many millions.

These criminal psychopaths are as influential among the Islamic world as they are the Judaic or Christian one. It takes at least TWO to make an argument, and a high up conspiracy between at least two to create a long standing bloody conflict the likes of this one. This is as true today as it was back in classical or indeed medieval times, only the means of spreading the needed propaganda, the names, and the weaponry has changed.

Please be reminded that there is no such thing as a just war. All murderous wars and conflicts are crimes against humanity and the will of god, NO ifs and NO buts. So is committing suicide for any reason whatsoever.

Not in Labour seats, not in marginal seats, but in safe Conservative seats. And to people who say to me that this modernisation, that this change was just some sort of paint job, I would say this: think of the young black British boy, looking at Parliament, looking at Britain and thinking, “What’s my role? Do I belong? How am I going to get on?” He can look at the Tory party, yes, the Tory party, and he can see Kwasi Kwarteng, Sam Gyimah, Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, Shaun Bailey, Helen Grant and say, “They’ve got to the top of British politics, I belong here, and so can I”.

“And think about that young Muslim woman, living in Britain, wondering what her role is in modern Britain, who is able to switch on the television and watch, in primetime TV, on Question Time, as Sayeeda Warsi destroyed that ghastly piece of filth, Nick Griffin, and think yes, yes, I belong here, it’s my country too.

“That’s what we’ve done as a party, we can now look the British people in the eye and say: this country, our country, this tolerant, compassionate, brilliant, multi-racial country, we are with you, we are like you, we are for you, we are ready to serve you, this modern Conservative Party made its choice and it’s never going back.

What tax cuts do in an economy facing public spending deficits says:

The immediate effects of a tax cut are, generally, a decrease in the real income of the government and an increase in the real income of those whose tax rate has been lowered. In the longer term, however, the effect on government income may be reversed, depending on the response that tax-payers make. Depending on the original tax rate, tax cuts may provide individuals and corporations with an incentive for investments which stimulate so much economic activity that even at the lower rate more net tax revenue will be collected.

you can’t pretend the economy is strong enough for pre-election Tax cuts if it’s not even strong enough for the kind of deep public sector cuts Osborne has now chickened out of this year. we’re deep in one of the worst recession for decades. you seriously think the public doesn’t know that ?

the debt is real and no amount of weaseling will convince a public fed for months if not years by Osborne on a diet of how terrible Labour is for not cutting the debt as quickly as he intends to, suddenly turning round and pretending he can cut taxes without consequence

two questions tomorrow will eviscerate Osborne and this pre-election panic

          1. How will you pay for this ?

          2. Do you rule out Tax rises ?

      • 908

But the defecit reduction envisaged in the Budget relied on assumptions of 3 – 3.5% growth from 2011 onwards.

Anyone who thinks that industries encumbered by increased NI contributions are going to be in a position to create even 2 – 2.5% growth in those years must be delusional – which of course Darling and Brown are.

The only way we are going to get out of this financial disaster that Labour have landed us in is through private sector growth and very, very deep public sector cuts – if we manage to attain 3 – 3.5% growth, then we may be able to get by with only 18 – 20% cuts in public sector spending, otherwise we will definitely be in 25% territory, perhaps more.

Proposals? Immediate withdrawal of favourable redundancy terms for all public sector workers – they can have the statutory minimum and lump it. Immediate freeze on public sector pension entitlements – they can pay into a sensibly funded money purchase scheme like the rest of us. An immediate cut in the higher pay grades of at least 30% of staff – and the appointment of a small group of utter bastards to vet all new public job advertisements and remove the non-jobs.

This would, of course, lead to a surplus of unemployed diversity coordinators and such, but it’s cheaper to pay them the dole than it is to keep paying them £30K plus and funding overgenerous pensions, so fuck ‘em.

We urgently need a bonfire of the vanity appointments – the overpaid and underskilled who infest our public life.

What tax cuts do in an economy facing public spending deficits says:

You can’t cut the deficit without freeing up resources for people to make their own spending choices which increases the velocity of money CREATING MORE REVENUE AT A LOWER RATE.

Osborne: Debt is our No1 Threat says:

BRITAIN could lose control of its economy to foreign banks because of a near £1TRILLION debt, George Osborne warned last night.
Gordon Brown plunging the nation into the red is the “single biggest threat” to our prosperity, he said.

The soaring debt must be tackled now for “meaningful” future growth to be possible, Shadow Chancellor Mr Osborne warned.

His call raises the stakes on the PM’s handling of the economy, as Britain still struggles to break free from the longest recession on record.

Labour and the Tories are split on when spending cuts should start. The issue is set to be a major general election battleground.

Mr Osborne said: “There is no choice between going for growth today and dealing with our debts tomorrow.

“Those who say we should simply ignore the markets are siren voices, luring us on to the rocks.”

International investors’ confidence in Britain is being sapped by the Government’s record borrowing, Mr Osborne added.

Three-quarters of what the UK borrows comes from overseas.

Britain’s credit rating could be downgraded as Labour has failed to offer a “credible” repayment plan.

That could leave the nation owing even more to foreign investors as interest rates soar.

In a speech, Mr Osborne said: “A loss of market confidence could force dramatic tax rises and spending cuts that were indeed savage.

“That would represent a dramatic loss of economic sovereignty.”

Action now could help “retain our economic freedom”.
