Update on Jacqui Smith Prosecution
Chris Galley from the Sunlight Centre for Open Politics has made Guido promise to be careful what he writes and the law firm Sunlight have retained has made it clear that they would prefer silence, however since Guido’s readers have donated thousands of pounds towards getting a prosecution started, you deserve an update.
The lawyers are in the evidence gathering phase – they want to establish from multiple sources the truth – Guido is under strict instructions not to elaborate or speculate. This will go on for some months apparently.
Still no word from the Met over which MPs they will be prosecuting – don’t think the issue of MPs’ expense fiddles has gone away – come the general election it will be an issue and will result in the biggest clear out of MPs since the second World War. It ain’t over until the fat lady sings…

What we need is ironically enough – A Police Force – a group of men and women who aren’t politically motivated/controlled, and who believe in fighting crime and putting criminals (real criminals – not just someone who’s doing 37 in a 30 area – what else are gatso/avergage speed cameras for?) in prison.
In the same vein, we need more prisons and a judiciary who know what crime is, what the effect of criminal activity is on ordinary people, and prepared to hand out prison sentences. Prisons are then in turn for – incarceration – to seperate the criminal element from ordinary people, and for rehabiliation.
The criminal should serve the minimum sentence, (good behaviour should be expected and misbehaviour getting longer sentences), with rehabiliation as part of the prison sentence. The luxuaries of prison life should be stopped, it is a prison – not a holiday camp!

Yeah, and restore hanging for child killers whose identity is beyond doubt and also for High Treason.
Our CJS already favours rehabilitation over punishment and it doesn’t work. Which is why our prisons are full to overflowing with recidivists, who have no intention whatsoever, of being rehabilitated.
Only when punishment becomes the norm, will we see a real reduction in crime figures. imho.

Our prisons are filled with drug addicts, the mentally ill and foreigners who should have been kicked out from whence they came so there is no room for real criminals. There are also too many ex-servicement in our prisons or even worse on the streets but that is another story altogether.

PTSD is a real problem but as we know, liebour hate the services and won’t fund decent equipment for those that are currently fighting, never mind providing counselling for those with PTSD.
However, that aside, there are many thousands, upon thousands, of career criminals, for whom prison is nothing to sweat about and certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Strong punishment might just turn that situation round sufficiently to make this country a better place to live.

They should keep it simple; by classing perks as expenses, whereby you don’t need to pay tax on something that you should be paying tax on, any MP who’s ever made an “expense” claim is guilty of tax fraud. Whether it’s for a sarnie on the tube or a duck island, or an entire bloody house, same logic applies.
If only it were true, but the Parliamentary piggies voted themselves special tax exemptions and enshrined them in law. Anyway the Revenue have no appetite for that kind of thing.
ah, but some laws themselves are illegal. Just because a law is on the books that doesn’t make it enforceable or even valid/legal. Our government is constantly in trouble with the EU for putting laws on the statute books which are themselves totally illegal.
Expenses for MPs is a clear/obvious situation where the law itself was illegal and therefore has no validity in court. They can’t exclude themselves from paying taxes, no matter what laws they pass, because it has no legal validity, and any court in the land would just laugh at the MPs’ argument of: “well, we said we don’t need to pay taxes, so we don’t, but everyone else has to” stance because it’s not legal or reasonable.
If they used that argument in court they’d get absolutely crucified by the judge and jury.
Laws only apply to little people,not MPs.

Sadly Nell, even helicoptors are no longer safe. We recently had to undertake an operation to relieve a forward operations base under siege by the Taleban,so it could be resupplied. It took a company level action to do so. The journalist with the unit reported the story and has immediately had his accreditation withdrawn.

After due and careful deliberation of all available opinions aired here,i have reached the conclusion that none of the three mainstream parties offer any real hope of establishing an honest and representative democracy. It would seem to be a choice of which caretakers shall we elect to oversee our submersion into the European superstate. Good or bad,that is the future that is now dawning. The electorate appear to be reluctant to embrace any radical alternative. That is understandable given the cossetted lifestyle we have enjoyed for the lifetime of most Britons. Voting for any radical alternative would involve great upheaval,and it seems that the majority are unwilling to take that risk. The nation shall be held in the balance,and found wanting. Thank fuck all those dead defenders of the realm,are not here to witness the result of the sacrifice they made.
