Having worked in an MPs office I know how much paper is generated as a result of casework – huge, huge, huge amounts of confidential data about constituents – it’s only right that that is disposed of properly to protect the constituents’ privacy.

We all suffer from mountains of paper, particularly when you run your own business. You have to keep it and store it for several years. How are mps allowed to shred it like that? Well the bigger question is why do political journalists sign up to the lobby system at all? Why should they report it or print it if the source is not attributable? Just tell us who said it or get them to tell it themselves. Otherwise it leads to corruption and dishonesty in politics as it does now.
To be able to tell the public, something that an MP or government minister does not want to tell the public but is quite happy for a media correspondent to tell.
