Ditto. Stepping down, of course, means that they will carry on leeching until the next election and then be given a handsome severance package including a gold-plated pension – all funded by the taxpayer – and retain their ill-gotten gains. Not good enough. where’s the firm action and leadership that Brown, Cameron and Clegg keep boasting about.

experiencing a great deal of schadenfreude says:

What exactly is Cameron supposed to do? Withdraw the whip? That’s no threat if they’re standing down at the next election anyway. The only way to remove a sitting MP against their will is impeachment. And that’s not going to happen when almost the whole damn Commons is tainted.

If they don’t have the decency to resign, turfing them out at the ballot box is the only way.

Too much to hope that Plod will be investigating further, if they get off their collective backsides CPS could have it all listed in time for the General Election. Perhaps if Kirkbride and Moran contra’d ( or better still the fees office ) what they have already taken against the termination payments… They would after all keep the proerties and the profits already made.

          grubbythiefhaters says:

Totally agree, we are all being hoodwinked. They have been caught with their grubby fingers in the cookie jar and their penalty – keep on leeching until a time were you would be unelectable anyway. It is a JOKE.

We should be campaigning for the removal of these parasites now. Not only that they should repay any ill gotten gains and also be subject to police investigation. British Politics stinks.

          Bewick says:

they ALL above have said it. Let us not forget that IF HMRC judge them to have obtained “benefits in kind” then they simply will be taxed on those benefits at 40% and will STILL be better off by 60% of the amount spent unless fines are imposed. That is I pay £100 for something and it costs me somewhat more than that in pre-tax income. THEY spend £100 “free” and are found out then THEY simply pay £40 for the same item They will NOT be paying back the full defrauded amounts. I rather doubt that HMRC will fine them to the same extent that ordinary taxpayers would be fined. MAKE ME HAPPY HMRC (Norwich Union never could) . CPS? Forget it they are stupid beyond belief.

IF the CPS, contrary to normal behaviour ACTUALLY prosecute them for fraud (rather doubtful) then I would expect an establishment judge to let them off with a caution since anything else would be “humiliating” and so contrary to their “human rights”.

ALL, including Conway, intend to stay in post until the next election. What THAT means is that they continue to be paid £5k+ a month (including 4 months at least FREE if the next election actually goes to the line) AND get at least £30k tax free (PLUS generous redundancy for family and friends, also tax-free) when they step down. PLUS of course they retain their MASSIVELY generous pension entitlements.
Well THAT is nowhere near good enough. I want ALL the troughers to be forced to repay their fraudulent claims in full, not JUST forced to pay for “benefit in kind”;I want them FINED heavily by the Courts and HMRC; I want them sacked IMMEDIATELY with total loss of any benefits or pension right; . I want them to receive prison sentences which will debar them from Parliament for 5 years I think. I WANT them totally humiliated.
AM I being TOO harsh? Though not. the ONLY alternative is the rope I reckon. Anyone want to buy tickets?

        • 335
          Wholly, exclusively and necessarily says:

They STILL don’t get it: that whatever ways might be found to sort this expnses row out, they are NOT the people to be involved in applying it. They have forfeited trust – full stop. Thank you, but goodbye. Whoever you are, you’re no longer wanted; you either did it or stood by whilst others did.

I will vote for the first party to promise a full independent enquiry into the expenses fiasco CASE BY CASE, conducted by a non-Metropolitan police force. It should be conducted on the basis that where incongruity and factually false statements have been uncovered that fraudulent intent should be presumed and where such is found proseuction would be automatic. No MP should be allowed to pay anything back at all in order to get out of their trouble; they shoudl actually be prevented from doing that before due process has been served.

The principle is that of ‘public interest prosecution’ which used to apply in the good old DPP days; that where a public figure was suspected of inolvement in wrongdoing, prosecution should follow, lest it be thought that the establishment was protecting one of its own.

The problem is that they’d claim the current climate would render a fair trial impossible. Try to find 12 non party members for a jury who weren’t that bothered by what had been going on?

Until a party commits to this kind of action, a reasonable presumption is that they are attempting to minimise the damage to their own political world and are STILL, THEREFORE, PART OF THE PROBLEM.

I’d stand on this manifesto myself, BUT I’M TOO ANGRY.

Why does Gordon Brown keep spilling British soldiers’ blood on foreign soil?

Labour may have fucked up the country but my god they are taking the piss out of the Tories here. Two minutes after Julie Kirkbride resigns they slip out the news about Margaret Moran knowing full well the media will concentrate on the Tory trougher. Your time is coming, BBC, and when it does, we will all have long memories.

P.S. To acknowledge the above, another soldier killed in a war against an enemy that the world’s greatest army, the RED army, couldn’t beat with all their resources and manpower…. when will we just leave them be ???

There’s no doubt about it. Over the years we’ve all allowed the issue of wages and allowances to become a real mess. The electorate is furious – from members getting wives, partners and relatives on the parliamentary payroll to expense claims for duck houses, flipping and servants quarters.

BBC is still banging on exclusively about Kirkbride. To them, she is the embodiment of the evil, venal Tories. They’ve got reporters all over Bromsgrove, they’ve led every news broadcast with her and they have been denouncing her non-stop on R5 for the last 4 hours.

She deserves to be driven out with a boot up her jacksie but what about proportionality and all the others? Moran has just resigned (for far worse) and they have all but ignored it.

Clearly the lesson from all this has been supplied by the odious Gerald Kaufman, who, by dint of employing the “fuck you” tactic, has slimed off without penalty. He’s not stood down, paid anything back or suffered anything other than momentary discomfort.

Never complain, never explain, say nothing and keep your head down and it will all go away pretty quickly. The lazy media will soon seize upon an easier target. On the other hand, if you try to do the right thing by confronting your detractors, or offer an explanation, you will quickly become a dead man walking.

Only the weak and garrulous will be the victims in all this. The real monsters like Blinky and co will just carry on as usual.

    Beware complacency.

BBC R4 WATO focussed 95% on Kirkbride. 3rd item was dedicated to bigging up vacuous vamp Ester Rancid (the BBC’s choice for what – next DG?). But the 2nd item, 2nd anniversary of hostages in Iraq, was fully politically coded.

On the face of, it was a dog’s breakfast of excuses for the Foreign Office. As indeed it might, for if the FO wants to know how to deal with hostage taking in the Middle East it could do better. Like talk to the Italians, who really do try to get their nationals released (even when it entails their operatives being shot at and killed by trigger happy Yankies). Or to the Russians. Oh, but you didn’t know there were Russians kidnapped in Lebanon back in the ’80s? There were some, at the outset. Let me tell you why you never heard about them. The Russians found out who was responsible for grabbing their people, took a few hostage-takers hostage themselves, surgically amended their gender, then returned them home – end of story.

But who is in charge of the FO? Correct – someone Guido fingers for the next zanu leader. Someone who can brush off rumours of requiring a personal jet at the public expense for trips to Israel, etc as a political poison attempt, but does need to look better to the public than a bent banana. So it seems Pravda-BBC has already decided it would prefer Foreign Agent Millipede over postman Johnson.

Miliband may or may not know fully about Russian activities in Lebanon. He certainly does know about Russians in Georgia, and by accounts is personally aware that Foreign Minister Lavrov (ex-military as opposed to ex-”researcher”) does not suffer fools or crypto-marxist twaddle gladly. Pravda-BBC tells us the hostage anniversary was publicised by the hostages’ relatives. Where was Miliband?

Standing down and saying sorry, citing health and family reasons, is an utter load of baloney and not sufficient. There are plenty more of these crooked MPs who should both stand down and pay back the monies they have fraudulently obtained from the public purse.

    Exiled in the Gulf says:

Given that Mackay and Kirkbride (the husband and wife serial troughers) are grudgingly stepping down for their misdemeanours – this should now make it easier for the DT. to focus and draw correlation with Labour’s Adolf (Balls) and his charming wife Eva (Cooper).

I predict the hounding will soon follow them as their are many similarities with their m.o’s. We now have a good test case to draw comparison.

Still cannot comprehend how greedy all these people are, however, it is no surprise given their level of fraud. By-elections for all (including Moran and thew Labour ’scum”) now !

A very interesting page on a BBC website, comparing your average poor and crushed MP’s weekly salary and salary + expenses with the general population, an hourly rate would probably be more use but it is good enough. Of course the hourly rate should not include time spent dining and proping up the bars and travelling time.

MPs are sick bastards. They should be whipped and rolled in salt. The demented weirdo Kirkbride convinced herself she was saving the taxpayers money by thieving off them. The blubbering cow was like Baby Jane.

I feel sorry for Julie KirkBride, and also Ian Gibson to some extent. Their offences seem to me to have been to have allowed others to benefit from the second homes for which we were paying. But at least their second homes truly were second homes. That is, these MPs actually lived most of their time at the home which they told the Fees Office was their main home. And they seem to have designated the same home as their main home for ACA and for CGT.

What about the much larger number of MPs who nominated one (cheap) home as their main home for ACA and another (expensive) one as their main home for CGT? Most of these have allowed other family members – spouses and children – to live in their “second” homes. So we as taxpayers have been paying the mortgage interest and running costs of the family home while the MP ends up not even paying any CGT because their “second” home for ACA is their main home for CGT.

It reminds me of the old Trade Union slogan: “One out, all out!”

Blanket coverage about Kirkbride on the BBC, and just tiny asides about moran.

Every report they have on it goes into great detail about kirkbride, showing all her tax-payer-funded pictures etc, and generally ranting for ages, followed by a final/quick aside at the end along the lines of “oh yes, and moran’s gone too. family reasons. now back to the story of the evil tory toff bitch who stole all your money…”

How can they possibly defend that as balanced?

By all means rant about the thieves, but if doing so rant about them both, don’t just single-out the tories.

    I’ll repeat this here:
So what about Kirkbride’s neighbour, the Home Sec.? Seems to be one rule for Conservative MPs and another for Labour Cabinet Ministers. How come Brown has been able to get away with not sacking a single Minister over this, apart from Malik for mouthing off that he was a “million % within the rules”.

I’m not particularly amused that this pair of fraudulent wasters are being enabled to remain as MPs until the next election. I saw Cameron tell of his pleasure that Julie has resigned. But there was no way he was going to sack her!! Similarly, Brown – he who cannot be found – would never have sacked Moran. Who do they think they are fooling???

MPs and party leaders still don’t get it do they? They still think they can control this mess – all for our benefit of course. They believe they are best placed to sort out the mess. This is ludicrous. We have no faith in these people or the system that supports them. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE that this should continue. I want an election NOW. I want all of them throwing out NOW. I want all of them to be investigated for criminal fraud and abuse of public, MY, Money.
