Sorry for the Delay

In case you are wondering why Guido has yet to name and shame some more scamming MPs, it is not for lack of will.  They are being elusive – genuinely on holiday in some cases.   Would like to hear their explanations before putting them in the stocks.  Though am close to just outing without speaking to the MP who boasted he had 400,000 airmiles as a result of junkets and wouldn’t have to pay for his family holiday.

You, know who you are…

    I hate to give her publicity but this article by Alice Miles in the Times today really got to me, and they won’t print my views so hope I can wind a few up on here. In an article generally defending MPs she wrote;

“I heard a story this week that made me think about the extra costs and pressures that we pile on to our political families. I realise that the climate is not right to ask for sympathy for them, but have a think. There was an article in The Times during the G20 summit, applauding Sarah Brown for wearing a “£9,000 top”. Idly I wondered how she could afford to pay for that.

It turns out that she couldn’t. She has no income of her own, having given up all paid work when her husband was Chancellor to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. She is not allowed to receive gifts, nor to borrow clothing, not even for a summit.

So to look the part for Britain, Mrs Brown has to rent these outfits, the ones that we all scrutinise so brutally, paying a tenth of their value (excluding shop mark-ups) each time. She paid hundreds of pounds of her own money to rent that top, and returned it afterwards. ”

“Have a think” she says – stone me I’ll have a think all right I will try and think what planet this woman is from. £9,000 for a cardigan!! Is the woman stupid or double dosing on crack? “look good for Britain” WTF!! The only thing that warrants brutal scrutiny are Browns expenses and those of his band of thieves. Yes I see it now Ali Brown and the forty thieves – open sesame and out pops our money from the exchequer – it will be a pantomime next Xmas.

The way she was toadying up to MPs in that vile article – ooh, they work so hard, they deserve their little fiddles and anyway it’s all in the rules – made one suspect that she’s now the mistress of a politician, rather than holding that position to somebody who merely genuflects to them.

It really was dreadful tosh. She states, without irony, that giving Jacqui a tough time over her her hard earned expenses means that democracy is on its knees. And then to top it off she bemoans how political life is cruel to families – a subject, admittedly, with which she is intimately acquainted.

Finally, she says that she doesn’t want to live in a country where the PM’s wife has to negotiate rental clothes out of her own pocket. How truly iniquitous it is that the wife of a man earning a vast salary and living in free accommodation has to purchase her own clothes.

The ghastly Miles is every bit as much of a joke as is Aaronovitch.

Harman Pride (or whoever you really are)

When I last looked, Oxfam had one of the lowest efficiency ratios of all the major charities. That means that less of a donated pound goes to actually addressing the charity’s objectives than practically anywhere else.

In addition, they have a rotten reputation for letting down their Oxfam Trading suppliers by closing their contracts with no notice. That means withdrawing financial support from some of the poorest people in the world, without notice, for the sake (given the efficiency statistics) of better being able to afford nice offices, hot and cold running staff and all the niceties of an administratively heavy organisation.

So, all in all, I would call Oxfam a legitimate target for criticism. Good on you, OH.

It was a cowardly, unprovoked act. The Belgrano was moving away and posed no threat.

I don’t think Argentina was right to invade but we should have used proper diplomatic channels, such as the UN, to negotiate with them first.

        H.P. As usual you’re talking complete ********** !

The Argentines were warned beforehand through a third party that once the “task force” was within their waters any Argentine warship that on balance posed a threat to the task force would be sunk without further warning !!!! The Argentines of course were not to know that the Uk already had 3 subs in the area shadowing the task force but they should have been aware but like the invasion the Junta totally mis-read the seriousness of the UK declaration to them and din’t think that the order would be given to sink any of their vessels(Bear in mind the shooting had not yet started and nobody thought that the UK would actually fight and that it was all posturring to aid the negotiations)

The Belgrano prior to the attack had been zig-zagging within range of the task force and was seen to be going to firing stations on several occasions, feinting towards our fleet and then moving away on an opposite course. This information was passed directly to Northolt and the PM Whilst moving away from the task force at the time she was sunk – she could at a moments notice turn towards the task force and in a few minutes launch exocet missiles which could sink a troop ship containing thousands of British soldiers. It was considered that the Belgrano was a serious and substantial threat and the order was therefore given to HMS Conqueror who was on station to sink her !

We were at war in all but name and the whilst the sinking was highly regrettable the Argentines knew or should have done what the consequences were of appearing to threaten the task force

As regards negotiations – the UN I seem to recall that the UK suggested “joint sovereignty” as some sort of compromise under the auspices of the UN but that the Junta refused demanding that their illegal invasion be recognised as legitimate and that both the US and UK governments tried their utmost to get Argentina to negotiate a withdrawal and vacate the islands peaceably and the UK government even agreed to hold a conferenve regarding sovereignty.Again the Junta refused and therefore must bear the total blame for the loss of life that followed.

They won’t try it again, despite all the wah-wahs and QQ.

The British held sovereignty over the Falklands from 1765 prior to any Argentine claims – in fact the French and Dutch had held prior claims to the British. The original Argentine (i.e.Spanish) claims come from 1766, when they acquired territory there from the French.

So Argentina’s claims are equally as colonial and shaky as the English, French, Dutch or Spanish claims might be.

And they can stamp their feet for as long as they like…

“It was a cowardly, unprovoked act. The Belgrano was moving away and posed no threat2

Fed up with stating this so for you HP one more time and in detail. Ships can be turned 180 degrees very quickly trust me after 30 years at sea I know. You can measure the speed of the turn in seconds not minutes. The direction or ‘heading’ of the vesel therefore is totally and utterly irrelevant.
What is relevant is the ‘intent’ of that vessel and the threat it poses to a neighbouring fleet. Remember the fact the vessel is pointing away from an enemy does not ever preclude it from firing missiles at that same enemy. So steaming away makes no difference in fact is used as a cover for attacks on occasions.
Additionally an enemy vessel acting in such a way close by is a serious distraction to fleet escort vessels and could allow an undetected enemy(submarine perhaps, air strike etc ) to attack while several escorts are engaged in monitoring this other target.

The fact remains that the Belgrano entered the exclusion zone despite numerous warnings and as such posed a ‘significant and substantial threat’ to forces in the locality. It was and had to be therefore eliminated but not until it had been given many chances to withdraw.

No sailor likes another sailor to die at sea ever even the enemy. Shit happens though in war I’d have though you a Labour party member would well understand war as you started enough of them so just get over it.

They were ‘our islamic terrorists’. The sort of ‘friendly’ islamic terrorists that aid and abet the lucrative drugs trade from the poppies in Afghanistan through Kosovo/Abania and on into the west. The drugs run that funds so much of the western intel ‘black ops’.
Of course the Israelis have every right to rampage through Lebanon and Gaza resisting ‘Islamic terror’. That islamic terror is really terrorist. Genuine semites trying to regain their own nation from Khazarian/Askenazi occupation.

“This is developing into the modern equivalent of the Blair Peach affair. His name is largely forgotten today, other than by his immediate family and friends. But exactly 30 years ago, the New Zealand-born teacher became a cause célèbre after he was killed during a demonstration in London.

He had joined a march against a National Front election meeting, organised by the Anti-Nazi League, in Southall in April 1979. There was trouble, the police intervened, Peach was hit on the head and died. The police were blamed, but an inquest returned a verdict of death by misadventure. None the less, they had to revisit their tactics for dealing with such protests – in particular, the Met was told to get a grip on its Special Patrol Group, an elite unit of riot police of a kind that was then largely unknown. But just as policing techniques have changed, so has society – in particular, the availability of film. In 1979, the only people with video cameras were TV crews and the police themselves. Nowadays, everyone can capture an incident on a camera or a phone: as a result, the last moments of Ian Tomlinson have been broadcast to a largely horrified nation. ”

misadventure. one law for them and another for the rest of us.
They can film us. They have made it illegal for us to film them.

We came to power in 1997 and have achieved great things however we erroneously followed Tory economic policy which is what has got us into the present regrettable difficulties along with the credit crunch that started in America.
We must now follow the correct path of socialism and restart the clock. Financially the last 12 years have been Tory years which is where much of the blame should quite correctly be laid. Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
any country ‘reserves the right to take whatever additional measures may be needed in the exercise of its right of self defence.’

The fact that the media, in particular the BBC, kept insisting the exclusion zone was the only recognised area of unrestricted combat, does not negate the use of article 51. Maggie said it, its even in the latest book on the Falklands,
        Razor’s Edge.

The Belgrano was ONLY safe in port. We knew it and they knew it. Read any book on the conflict and you’ll see that that was case.

What do you think about Boris Johnson’s disgraceful decision to axe Europe’s biggest anti-racist festival?

I used to like Boris Johnson. I admired his wit and self-deprecating humour on Have I Got News For You.

But since he became Mayor, ordinary Londoners are increasingly disillusioned with his arrogance and incompetence – his failure to deal with the snow, his refusal to answer committee questions.

Buffoonery is funny on a comedy show. It’s not so clever when you’re responsible for the nation’s capital.

    Ken Livingstone said:

“It’s a blow to good community relations in the city. There is now a clear pattern of Boris Johnson cutting funding to events celebrating the contributions of different communities to London and promoting good community relations. And, as with the loss of most sponsorship for events like the St Patrick’s Day festival and Freewheel, his claims that he will save tax payers’ money by bringing in outside sponsors have been shown to be just so much hot air.”

“Rise was the biggest anti-racist festival in Europe and on that basis attracted significant sponsorship. It lost much of this when Boris Johnson dropped the central anti-racist message last year. It is no surprise that Boris Johnson is now cancelling the festival altogether.”

    • 276

Also, Linda Perks, UNISON Regional Secretary, another former sponsor, said:

“The real story here is that Boris Johnson is not interested in working to put an end to the racism and prejudice that sadly still take place on the streets of our capital every day.”

Have any of you ever stopped to ask why Jacqui Smith is the one always being singled out for attack over the expenses claim?

Could it be that right-wingers like Guido and his followers (memorably described by Draper as “sewage”) feel threatened or intimidated by powerful, successful females in positions of authority?

If it was only their policies that were discussed, and even condemned, then we could live with it but as always with Harriet Harman, Jacqui Smith and other women in political life it is accompanied by personal abuse.

It’s so dreary and predictable: the commonest attack, Harriet Harperson, harking back as it does to 1980′s ‘loony left’ with its tired replacement of man with person is out of time! Or it’s a play on Harpy, in which case its a typical bit of misogyny.

Of course it is not restricted to Britain. When Hilary Clinton was campaigning to be Presidential nominee she was subjected to a barrage of abuse from the ‘iron my shirts’ heckle to the contemptible banner: “Life’s a bitch. Don’t vote for one”.

What you male chauvinists and misogynists won’t accept is that British politics should have an equal proportion of men and womyn in power.

That’s why Labour has a higher proportion of female MPs than any other party and supports all-female shortlists, which the Tories oppose. Labour is still the party that seeks to empower women and support them.

        * New Deal – helped over 1.8 million people into work
        * Cut number of young people making long-term unemployment claims by over 75 per cent
        * Waiting lists are down by 614,000 since 1997. Most patients are now waiting less than 13 weeks, and by the end of this year nobody will wait more than 18 weeks for treatment.
        * Over 99% of suspected cancer patients are seen by a specialist within two weeks of being referred by their GP, and over 99% of cancer patients start their treatment within a month of diagnosis.
        * Over 38,000 more doctors and 80,000 more nurses since Labour came to power.
        * Investment in the NHS has trebled since 1997.

Re 317; there is of course now a queue to get onto the waiting list and plenty more statistical dodges. The 600,000 children “lifted out of poverty” are of course now on the obese stats and the young people said to be off the unemployed stats are in Uni, still not working, and paid for via, er, debt (stats not available). The doctors (middle class binge drinker stats) and nurses (obesity plus alcohol stats) now are less productive too (stats somewhere). Cancer sufferers seen by a specialist and starting treatment (stats filed under “99%”) still don’t impact on the World Health Organisation stats. Extra funding in NHS mainly spent on salaries and huge rise in administrators (stats to follow). Can’t put my finger on where the “investment” is as anything requiring capital funding is on PFI so is actually off-book unsecured debt (stats under the pile in the corner). Low levels of crime stats might be explained by how these stats are made up (by ZNL, boom-boom). I love stats, me.

    * Under Labour we have the longest period of sustained low inflation since the 1960s, the lowest interest rates since the 1960s and the highest levels of employment since records began
    * We now have the second highest employment rate and GDP per head of the G7
    * Inflation rates have averaged less than half their rates between 1979 and 1997 in the past decade, even after recent unforeseen shocks.
    * There are approximately 430,000 more VAT registered businesses now than in 1997, and 350,000 more self-employed people
    * Over the last ten years, the incomes of the poorest 20 per cent of the population have grown faster than the richest 20 per cent.

And the places were freed up due to people being let out early by mistake or deliberately to free up places.

“An MoJ spokesman said the government was working “extremely hard” to create extra prison capacity.

So far 47,515 inmates have been let out early under the End of Custody Licence programme. Violent crime has nearly doubled and ministers have resorted to letting serious offenders out early

They include nearly 10,000 violent offenders and more than 4,200 burglars.

More than 1,500 criminals let out have been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of their release, and one in 10 of those recalled to custody is still on the run”

    * Under Labour we have the longest period of sustained low inflation since the 1960s, the lowest interest rates since the 1960s and the highest levels of employment since records began

[That depends whether or not you believe the current government statistics, which don't include the 2.8 million or so incapacity benefit claimants in the unemployment figures. If you do factor these in, the true figures are shocking: the town of Easington in County Durham has a true unemployment rate of almost 80%. Needless to say its a Labour stronghold]

    * We now have the second highest employment rate and GDP per head of the G7

    [See above]

    * Inflation rates have averaged less than half their rates between 1979 and 1997 in the past decade, even after recent unforeseen shocks.

[Absolutely meaningless - check those rates again when Brown's economic folly has unfolded a little more]

    * There are approximately 430,000 more VAT registered businesses now than in 1997, and 350,000 more self-employed people

[The VAT threshold has not kept up with inflation. How many of those self employed people will still be self employed 3 months from now?]

    * Over the last ten years, the incomes of the poorest 20 per cent of the population have grown faster than the richest 20 per cent.

[So how is it that the gap between rich and poor is greater than ever and the UK has the worst poverty stats of all the developed nations in Europe? Why did this government effectively double the tax rate on the very poorest paid? Are you proud of that, too?]

    QUICK IS ACTUALLY SLOW says:

    ITN Breaking news

Britain’s top anti-terror police officer has apologised after a ‘blunder’ which apparently led to raids in a major terror operation being brought forward. The raids were believed to have been brought forward after the Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick was pictured carrying papers relating to the operation. Sky’s crime correspondent Martin Brunt said: “This morning, Bob Quick was briefing the Cobra meeting (of senior government officials) about this alleged plot.

“But as he got out of his car at No 10 he was photographed.

“Quite clearly seen in that photograph was the cover of a dossier that gave some details away of this alleged plot.” Among a large bundle of papers under his arm was a white document clearly marked “secret” and carrying an outline briefing on a counter-terrorism operation.

Mr Quick has apologised to Met Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson following the blunder. He said he “deeply regretted” leaving the document on show.

Harman Pride again (You really are getting up my nose this evening) @321

Your health tractor statistics are almost as misleading as they were (and meant to be) when Gordon first uttered them.

Worst is your “investment” number. Investment in the NHS is just another word for expenditure. Do you know what is the biggest single “investment” in the NHS is, across the period of the Labour government? Believe it or not, it is actually lump sum bail-outs of the NHS pension schemes! Yup, when Brown wobbles on about how much money has been showered onto the NHS, he absolutely does include that number in the total.

When I was last in a hospital, a few months ago, to visit a sick friend, it was filthy, absolutely disgustingly filthy dirty. But worst of all was when I noticed the old guy in the bed next to my friend. He had been presented with a flask made of egg-box material, to piss into. Having done that, he then started drinking out of it. The piss-drink cycle was repeated several times, until I decided it might be a good idea to have a word with the nurses. There were half a dozen of them at their “station”, along with a couple of docs; clearly, judging by the bits of conversation I overheard, some sort of orgy was being planned. I interrupted, suggesting that someone should go and sort out the old guy. In reponse, I was roundly abused by all present, and in fact they only went and did something because I said I would not move an inch until they got a move on.

My conclusion is that you can bleat on about Labour’s apparent success with numbers, but it doesn’t reflect what the NHS actually needs. They could clearly do better with a few cleaners, some proper supervision at the coal face, and fewer spivs masquerading as medical staff. And they could also do without leadership at the very top that simply dumps money on them (albeit in fact rather less than Gordon says) and believes it is achieving something.

Next time, Harman Pride, you want to spout off doltishly about how wonderful Labour is making the NHS, make sure you have actually been to have a look first.

Tonight, 12 terror suspects have been arrested as part of an extensive counter-terrorism operation.

Why aren’t Guido and his fellow right-wingers concentrating on the really important issues?

While the Tories have been busy dredging up scurrilous and tawdry scandals to smear Gordon Brown and Jacqui Smith, they have been getting on with more important matters.

What’s more important – Jacqui Smith’s husband accidentally claiming £10 for porn, or protecting us from from another 7/7 or 9/11 or a “dirty bomb” attack?

Once again, you show how out of touch you are if you think anyone outside the Westminster village is interested in petty scandals.

When it comes to real policies for keeping you safe and protecting you from terrorists, Gordon Brown and Jacqui Smith deliver.

    • 549

I wouldn’t waste your breath Harman_Pride. The posters on this blog (with a few honourable exceptions such as Politics Matters) are too blinkered to ever praise Labour for anything.

Sometimes I think they’d rather have Ministers who don’t claim expenses but fail to protect us from terror, than Ministers who occasionally slip up but keep us safe.

They are probably the same Right-wingers who tried to bring down Bill Clinton, the most successful President since Kennedy, over the Monica Lewinsky affair.

Recently, Labour’s Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, has launched a revised version of the Government’s strategy for countering international terrorism.

“Protecting the public is my key objective and the aim of the Government’s new counter terrorism strategy is to reduce the risk of terrorism to allow people to go about their lives freely and with confidence.

“The UK has one of the most comprehensive and wide ranging approaches to tackling terrorism in the world and we have updated our CONTEST strategy to take account of the evolving threat, the lessons we have learned and the new challenges we face.”

I’m intrigued, because you are trying to associate a police operation with the political leadership of the Home Office and her immediate line management. My understanding, based on actually listening occasionally to what Ms Smith says, is that she has no control or influence over the day-to-day operation of the Police.

Also, I know that I am on firm ground when I say that the underlying legal basis for monitoring and ultimately obstructing a criminal conspiracy (which appears to be what has happened today) goes back an eon compared to the life of the current government.

So, Harman Pride and the other voices inside your head, explain to me carefully how today’s police raid demonstrates Smith’s and Brown’s competent protection of the nation.

      from Al Ja Beeba

Twelve men have been arrested in the north west of England after Britain’s most senior counter-terrorism police officer sparked a security alert.
Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick said he “deeply regretted” revealing a secret document to photographers when he arrived for a briefing at No 10.
The document, clearly marked “secret”, carried an outline briefing on an ongoing counter-terrorism operation.
The 12 suspects were later arrested at locations across north-west England.
It is understood raids took place at 10 addresses sooner than planned due to the documents being revealed.

Pathetic! Brown lined his pockets at tax payer expense. If the flat was valued at £700,000 as was reported at the time – Sarah could well have taken £350,000 in Equity out of it! Remember how much the flat cost originally and the number of years Brown has been claiming for it! Brown must think the electorate stupid!

We can comment if you like, Guido’s disappeared, you see.
When you get large numbers of police given the job of superintending large numbers of people with there being the possibility that mob violence will break out there is always likely to be trouble.
So a, maybe hyped up, copper behaves badly and assaults an elderly and probably not very fit man who falls, and subsequently dies elsewhere of a heart attach. Just another avoidable comedy of errors.
If Mr Tomlinson had survived and a complaint been made, we would no doubt have seen the usual set of identical statements justifying the assault as self defence or suchlike.

It’s sad that you don’t take the terrorist threat seriously and are undermining the Government’s efforts to protect you from another 9/11 or 7/7 by mocking anti-terror operations and downplaying the terrorist threat.

Since 2005, the Police have successfully foiled over 300 terrorist attacks. International terrorism isn’t a laughing matter.

The Government needs our help to counter the terrorist threat – by reporting anything suspicious, by accepting ID Cards and the creation of a National Database, and so on.

If you’re not helping the Government, you’re effectively helping the terrorists – it’s not rocket science.

During the Second World War, we had a word for people who refused to co-operate with the Government in the fight against Hitler.

Harmong_Pride: “If you’re talking about removing the Government by other means, can I remind you that conspiracy is against the law.”

But it’s relative you see. At the time those who conspired to assassinate Hitler were considered criminals and subject to national socialist (q.v. New Labour) show trials. But now? If the government itself is criminal, oppressive, corrupt and dictatorial e.g. tyrannical (q.v. New Labour), then historically the people have the right to overturn it by force of arms (q.v. Bill of Rights 1689).

Adams and McGuiness were once considered terrorists and outside the law but thanks to the sham “peace process” (q.v. New Labour) they now sit within the government. New Labour can’t have it both ways. Either it respects and encourages victims (the oppressed, abused and exploited people of England) or it does not. Anything else is bigoted national socialist dogma and cant.

We have had enough of your party. We want you gone. Gordon Brown has overstayed his welcome and the English people want an election. The longer the national socialists defy the people the greater will be the humiliation of their inevitable defeat. You cannot defend the indefensible. You cannot dismiss the will of the people or their historical destiny with snide and arrogant comments about the Daily Mail or by snidely suggesting that their lack of intellect makes their anti-socialist opinions invalid or unworthy.

You were once safe in your deluded socialist bubble, cosy with your socialist pals in the BBC engaging in the great illusion. Your dismantling of the establishment, constitution, parliamentary traditions, culture and heritage of England was under way, with your allies infiltrated into the civil service and active in schools, brainwashing our children. Your Political Correctness stifled dissent. Uncontrolled immigration promised the change in voting demographics that Blair and Brown had secretly agreed upon to ensure New Labour would remain in power for ever and Britain would become a single party state. You have managed to suborn and corrupt the police to become your “asphalt soldiers”, your “schutz staffel”, a uniformed arm of the New Labour state to suppress dissent and pursue your newly created crimes of conscience and speech. All this you and your kind have done.

But you now stand exposed and seen for what you are. Forums and blogs not just throughout Britain but throughout the world are full of contempt and scorn for you and your party, for the venal, self-serving mediocrity pretending to be a cabinet of state. And these are not just Daily Mail readers, or Tory Toffs, but ordinary people, ordinary voters, who are going to bring your socialists house of cards tumbling to ruin. And once that happens and the power has shifted, the enquiries and the investigations will begin, rooting out the filthy corruption, prejudice, bigotry and injustice you and your kind have brought to this country.

At this point in history I’m glad I’m not a socialist and even more relieved I’m not a New Labour activist and apologist – like you.
