Gordon Brown In Shock Sedition Trial

Guido got his hopes up when he saw that Gordon Brown would be appearing in the dock in a Kuala Lumpur court, but sadly the Prime Mentalist will only be a witness rather than a suspect. According to Malaysian newspaper The Sun Daily, Gordon has been summoned by the defence in a bizarre sedition trial halfway across the planet. At least that gives him another chance to rack up some more air miles…

Rachel Reeves' Lap Dancing Campaign Defeated

Labour prude Rachel Reeves has suffered a new blow in her killjoy campaign to shut down lap dancing clubs in Leeds city centre. The Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury has called for premises that offer adult entertainment services to be refused licenses and be forced to move out to “less conspicuous” areas.

Guido is pleased to report that all seven lap dancing clubs in Leeds have retained their licenses as, hilariously, the online e-petition for Reeves’ campaign has mustered only three signatures as we go to pixel. The people have spoken…

Fox on Europe – Live

20120702-100511.jpg

I do not believe that Britain’s national interest is served by its current relationship with the EU.  We have not moved the goalposts. But they have been moved nonetheless. We must now respond. For 20 years, since I entered Parliament, we have been told that we are winning the arguments on Europe and that it is coming in our direction. It is not true. We must free ourselves from the dogma of “ever closer union” that has been a handicap on every government since the 1970s. It is a dogma that has led to failure to adapt to a changing world and has thrown millions of young Europeans into high and structural unemployment. There will be those who say that this is the wrong time and that it is politically difficult or even impossible. These are the perpetual arguments for inertia. It is the British public who must be the final arbiters and their voice has been ignored for too long. Politicians of all parties must show that they are able and willing to put the National interest ahead of narrow electoral interests. We should not wait for EU leaders to recognise the failure of the ill-conceived euro before we set out what we want for the British people. Britain’s destiny is not a debating issue for leaders on the continent. It must be made in Britain. This is the time for us to rise to the challenge.”

Taxpayer-Funded Charities and Links With Labour

Guido has expressed his dislike for taxpayer-funded “charities” that lobby the government before, but if there’s one thing worse than a Sock Puppet then it’s a Sock Puppet with suspiciously close links to the Labour Party.

Shelter, the homelessness charity, has been loudly lobbying the Coalition to scrap its Housing Bill over the last few months. Their chief executive is Campbell Robb, a former Labour employee, and they receive some £10 million from the taxpayer each year despite taking a patently partisan position. Not only a Sock Puppet, but one with a conflict of interest.

The worrying ties don’t stop there, with the Gingerbread campaign against Iain Duncan Smith’s welfare proposals being funded largely using taxpayers’ money awarded to them by Labour councils in Manchester, Haringey and Camden. They also receive significant amounts of cash from the Labour-controlled Welsh Assembly.

These so-called “charities” only survive thanks to our money yet seem to be pushing the agenda of their Labour cronies. It’s a revolving door…
