Second Shadow Chancellor in a Row on “Lynching”

Guido has discovered old minutes of a chaotic Oxford University Student Union meeting in 2000, when then OUSU President and now Shadow Chancellor Anneliese Dodds went along with a bad taste (presumed) joke about lynching the then NUS President Andrew Pakes, who belonged to the Blairite Labour Students faction. Factionalism in Labour circles starts young. Naturally, it was during a discussion about one of those student demonstrations that achieve so much…

Anneliese Dodds (St Hilda’s) explained that we had to change the date of the demo due to police budgetary constraints. A national march like this would be brilliant for reinvigorating media attention. NUS President confirmed he would speak.

John Courouble (Campion Hall ) asked if Andrew Pakes would be lynched? Anneliese hoped that people would be sensible.

Nicely ambiguously done. John McDonnell isn’t the only Shadow Chancellor to have engaged with bad taste jokes about lynching ‘right-wing’ political figures…

Gandhi Not Woke Enough For Manchester Students

Students from Manchester University are campaigning to tear down a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in a bizarre but logical progression of the ongoing university trend of holding historical figures to modern moral standards. In a campaign self-styled as #GandhiMustFall, students – led by Manchester sabbatical officer Sara Khan – have highlighted problematic opinions that the Indian freedom-fighter held – claiming the Indian race was genetically superior to Africans. The students claim in an open letter that Manchester must “stand in solidarity with Manchester’s Black and Kashmiri communities” and tear down this ‘colonist’ statue…

This anti-Gandhi campaign (no doubt inspired by anti-Indian sentiment in the modern left over Kashmir) has been started in response to the imminent unveiling of a statue of the peace and liberation symbol, donated to the city of Manchester by the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur from Gandhi’s homeland, following the Manchester Arena terror attack in 2017, which killed 22 people.

This is the sort of campaign satirists could have started to highlight the silliness of #xMustFall movements. Guido expects they will be coming for alleged serially unfaithful philanderer, and accomplice to sexual assault, Martin Luther King next. Lefty Manchester students have done more than anyone to show how ridiculous the whole history-revisionism affair is…

Zionist-Hating Young Labour Chief Pictured Brandishing Gun

abdi aziz suleiman

Young Labour’s International Officer Abdi-Aziz Suleiman sparked a furore over the weekend when he appeared on the Iranian state-run Press TV to defend Corbyn. He has previous. In another Press TV interview, Suleiman rails against “dedicated Zionists” and rants about Israel. When he was called out, he responded by arguing Israeli media should be boycotted instead. What does the Momentum-backed Corbynista get up to in his spare time? The above image of Suleiman brandishing a gun, finger curled around the trigger, has been circulating in Labour circles. He reassures Guido he was just on holiday in America. Glad to hear he’s not taking the whole Jezbollah thing too seriously…

NUS Blocks Jewish Students From Having Say on Who Represents Them

Malia

Hard left members of the NUS have voted to block Jewish students from choosing their own representative on the union’s anti-racism committee. A vote to put a Jewish student chosen by other Jewish students back on the committee was rejected last night. Rather than consulting with the Union of Jewish Students, as happened in previous years, the NUS NEC will now pick their own comrade to serve on the committee instead. The motion was a close run thing, requiring a deciding vote from none other than NUS president Malia “Zionist-led media” Bouattia. You can guess which way she voted…

The UJS are understandably concerned, saying in a statement:

“Today, NUS NEC once again showed its complete lack of commitment to Jewish students by voting for a motion that means that Jewish students will have no say in who represents them on the NUS Anti-Racism, Anti-Fascism (ARAF) committee. It will now be down to NEC to elect the ARAF committee and therefore to decide on behalf of Jewish students who represents them. This decision is undemocratic and excludes the 8,500 Jewish students that we represent. It was no surprise that the NUS President, Malia Bouattia, who had the deciding vote, once again showed that she has absolutely no interest in defending Jewish students’ interests by voting to remove the ability of Jewish students to shape for themselves the student movements’ fight against racism and fascism.”

Another stunning success for the “Zio”-hating NUS…

Cash-Strapped Guardian Cancels Student Awards

Guardian SMA

Despite accruing millions in extra income through its systemic tax avoidance, the Guardian can’t scrape enough cash together to throw a student bash. The paper has placed the awards on “hiatus” while “reviewing our events portfolio and new opportunities for the future.” The awards, which have been running since the ’70s, have previously been won by Steve Dineen lifestyle editor of City AM, Heidi Blake of Buzzfeed, and documentarian Ruaridh Arrow. Wonder if they’ll be dropping their 25% student discount, too…

NUS’ £3 Million Financer Votes to Leave

loughborough

The snowballing NUS disaffiliation campaign got another boost today – Loughborough Union’s trustees have voted to uphold the student referendum to leave the NUS. Loughborough is now the fourth University to disaffiliate, and in leaving will take the £2,822,491 they hand over to the NUS’ services organisation. Throw in a £50,000 annual affiliation fee and revenues from the sale of discount cards, and the NUS stands to lose cumulative revenues of around £3,000,000 from Loughborough alone. Loughborough, which consistently tops the British Universities and Colleges Sport leaderboards, is full of the kind of fun-loving boozy types the NUS hates. Let’s see how the defunded NUS copes without the money…
