Boffins from Cambridge University think they’ve found the solution to noisy wind turbines – owls.
The crack team of scientists have been researching the the wings of “large owls,” which are renowned for their ability to swoop silently through the night sky. By mimicking the owls’ feathers with a 3D printer the boffs were able to coat a wind turbine blade with a faux-feather covering that reduced its noise by 10 decibels.
