Hacked Off Cheapskates Leave MPs Hacked Off

You would have thought, with all those mega-rich donors and celebrity backers, that Hacked Off would be able to pay the postage on their mailshots. MPs are less than impressed at having to stump up £1.50 to read their latest dross today, all because Hugh Grant and co couldn’t be bothered to buy the correct stamps. If all 650 MPs pay up that theoretically leaves a £1,000 bill for the taxpayer. Slow clap.

ITV’s Allegra Stratton

As rumoured last week, Newsnight’s Allegra Stratton is off to ITV:

“BBC Newsnight’s Political Editor Allegra Stratton is to join ITV News’ line-up of specialist experts in the newly-created role of National Editor.

Allegra will work across ITV News’ full range of programmes, appearing frequently on News at Ten. In her new role, she will provide insight and in-depth analysis of the domestic and policy issues that matter to our viewers.”

Stratton is not thought to have got on brilliantly with Ian Katz. Wounder for the BBC as ITV News at Ten bolster their line up further. Newsnight looks like a sinking ship

Tim Yeo Loses Libel Action Against Sunday Times

Tim Yeo

Tim Yeo has lost his libel action against the Sunday Times. A very happy Jonathan Calvert, the journalist who wrote the original story along with Heidi Blake, tells Guido:

“We won on every count and judge used the following words to describe Yeo’s evidence: “implausible”, “unreliable”, “not honest”,”dishonest”, “untruthful”, “untrue” and “unworthy of belief”.”

Shades of Aitken and Archer…

UPDATE: Yeo has to make a costs down payment to The Sunday Times of £411,000 within 28 days.
