Well Played, Paddy

Criticism of Sadiq Khan over his links to Suliman Gani fell flat partly because Cameron and Fallon cocked up their attack lines, though the new mayor’s spin operation deserves credit too. Paddy Hennessy successfully convinced his mates in the Lobby that Gani was actually a Tory and not a Labour supporter – mainly on the basis of a selfie with a clueless Zac. The press quickly turned their fire on Zac over his key attack line apparently falling apart…

The truth, as the video above shows, is that Gani is an Islamo-Socialist Labour supporter who vocally backed Corbyn for the leadership. Gani occasionally opportunistically shared non-partisan platforms with some Tories and candidates too. Sadiq’s team impressively persuaded the Lobby that this was somehow equal to – or even worse than – Gani sharing platforms with Khan nine times and publicly endorsing the Labour leader. Meaning very difficult questions about Sadiq’s past associates were swerved. Paddy played the game very well…

Sadiq Khan New Mayor of London

It is now mathematically impossible for Zac to win so Sadiq Khan is the new Mayor of London. Which means…

Katie is a woman of her word…

Zac’s Best Bits

With 90% of the votes counted, Khan has a lead of 9 points. It’s been emotional…

Khan Ahead After Three Hours of Counting

london

Counting has been underway for almost three hours and Sadiq has a lead of 12 points. The Greens are in third. A double digit defeat would be a humiliation for Zac…

Sadiq: “I’m Sorry” For Racial Slur Against Moderate Muslims

An unfortunate headline the day before the polls open…

Khan Called Moderate Muslims “Uncle Toms” on Iranian State TV

The Mail has a video of Sadiq Khan being interviewed on Press TV, the Iranian state television channel, in 2009 while he was a government minister. In the clip Khan describes moderate Muslim groups as “Uncle Toms”. On LBC at the weekend Khan said the phrase “Uncle Tom” is “racist”…

Khan Campaigned For Naz Shah, Defended Ken on Anti-Semitism

The anti-Semitism row engulfing Labour is particularly awkward for Sadiq Khan. He campaigned for Naz Shah last year:

And, more disturbingly, he defended Ken Livingstone over his anti-Semitic remarks to a Jewish reporter. Khan said at the time:

“Ken Livingstone has been elected to serve the city of London by millions of voters. Unelected officials should not be able to suspend a democratically elected Mayor unless he is guilty of a significant offence.”

Sadiq didn’t think calling a Jewish journalist a “concentration camp guard” was a “significant offence”…

Julia Hartley-Brewer v George Galloway

George Galloway, currently polling at zero percent in the London mayoral race, decided it would be a good idea to precede a TalkRadio interview with Julia Hartley-Brewer by tweeting:

“I have no wish to charm you. I despise you, and always have… malice runs through [your] veins. And drips out.”

Lovely.

Hours later Gorgeous George turned up at the studio, chummily greeting JHB with a friendly “hello” and attempting to shake her hand. Unsurprisingly Julia refused to take it, then gave Galloway an on air machine-gunning. Enjoy watching a defeated George slump out of the studio…

Cameron’s Brutal Attack on Khan

At PMQs Cameron listed the nine times Sadiq Khan has shared a platform with Suliman Gani, as reported on Guido. Corbyn shouted “disgraceful” and Labour MPs howled “racist“. As the PM says, the point is not that Khan once shared a stage with an extremist once by accident, he did it over and over again…

Khan Admits “Giving Impression” He Held Extreme Views

Sadiq was grilled by Brillo during last night’s BBC mayoral debate on his links to radical imam Suliman Gani, a well-known name to Guido readers. Khan insisted he did not regret appearing on a platform with Gani but confessed he gave the impression he subscribed to his extremist views:

Andrew Neil: “Suliman Gani, who’s a supporter of Islamic State. You appeared on a platform with him nine times. During one of these times you must have found out what he really believed in?”

Sadiq Khan: “There are lots of campaigns and issues that I’ve been involved in as the chair of Liberty, as a human rights lawyer and as a politician which had cross-party support…”

AN: “Do you regret appearing on platforms with people like that?”

SK: “No, I regret giving the impression I subscribe to their views…”

Khan’s allies cry foul whenever he’s asked about this, but even he now admits it is an issue…

Diane: Sadiq is “Jeremy Corbyn’s Man”

Well done Diane Abbott for reading out the Zac campaign’s main attack line at a People’s Assembly rally this weekend:

“It’s important that in May we vote for Jeremy Corbyn’s man to be Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.”

The exact same phrase as can be found on Tory attack posters:

Slow clap.

Khan Declines Opportunity to Condemn Gani

Given the opportunity by HuffPo to condemn the views of Suliman Gani, who reckons women are “subservient” and condemns homosexuality, Sadiq Khan instead said this:

“You won’t be surprised to hear I don’t spend my life looking at what Guido Fawkes might be saying. When I first stood for Parliament in 2005 there were extremists outside the mosque I had prayed in all my life saying that voting was haram, anybody who took part in my election was going to hell and I was definitely going to hell because I was taking part in what was called man-made law. I voted for same-sex marriage – that very imam that Guido Fawkes claims is close to me said horrible things about me, publicly, and I was condemned in no uncertain terms by him and others… I will be the British Muslim who takes the fight to the extremists.”

Once again, Khan is dodging the question. This isn’t about Guido, or what Gani has said about Khan more recently, it is about their relationship in the past – which for some reason he still refuses to address. Remember Khan didn’t tell the truth about sharing a platform with Gani – something which reportedly happened one nine separate occasions. Now he is suggesting he wasn’t “close” to his own former imam, which seems a stretch. No one is suggesting Khan shares any of these unsavoury views, this is a very simple question about his judgment. One he still won’t answer…

Gotcha: Khan Caught Fibbing About Extremist Imam

[gigya src=”https://d15mj6e6qmt1na.cloudfront.net/cdn/embed_player.swf” style=”background-color:transparent; display:block; max-width: 700px;” flashvars=”image_option=small&imgURL=&link_color=%2358d1eb&mp3Author=AlexWickham2&mp3Duration=47647.3&mp3LinkURL=https%3A%2F%2Faudioboom.com%2Fboos%2F4393512-sadiq-khan-on-suliman-gani&mp3Time=10.28pm+05+Apr+2016&mp3Title=Sadiq+Khan+on+Suliman+Gani&mp3URL=https%3A%2F%2Faudioboom.com%2Fboos%2F4393512-sadiq-khan-on-suliman-gani.mp3%3Fsource%3Dwordpress&player_theme=light&rootID=boo_player_1&show_title=true&waveimgURL=https%3A%2F%2Fd15mj6e6qmt1na.cloudfront.net%2Fi%2Fw%2F4982609″ width=”100%” height=”100″ allowFullScreen=”true” wmode=”transparent”]

You won’t get a clearer case of a mayoral candidate misleading voters than in this LBC interview. Asked about his links to the radical imam Suliman Gani, Sadiq Khan pretends he only shared a platform with Gani because he wasn’t aware the extremist was present. Specifically talking about Gani, Sadiq insists:

“Nick, you will know this because you’re a pro. You turn up at these events, often they’re two, three, four hours long. You’re the seventeenth speaker, there are three more after you.”

Khan leads listeners to believe he didn’t know Gani was there because of the number of other speakers and the length of the event.

This is demonstrably untrue. The photo below shows Khan and Gani together, side by side:

There weren’t seventeen other speakers between Khan and Gani. There wasn’t a four hour time difference. They stood right next to each other. There is no way Khan wouldn’t have seen Gani, and there is no way he wouldn’t have known who Gani is – he is his personal imam and the pair have exchanged friendly emails. To suggest to listeners he has only ever shared a platform with Gani unknowingly is a blatant and deliberate untruth. Sadiq Khan, bang to rights fibbing to voters about his links to an al-Qaeda sympathising Islamic extremist.

Zac in the Back of Norman Smith’s Cab

You’ll never guess who Norman Smith had in the back of his cab this morning, only that Zac Goldsmith. Hit with a round of quick-fire questions on London, Zac knew his EastEnders but not his footy. It could have been a lot, lot worse

Sad-Disco Sausage Fest

Young Labour activists were promised some night fever on Friday evening as their mayoral candidate vowed to cut some shapes at a “Sadisqco” party at Bankside. Yet just eight people had turned up by the time Khan arrived. All of them blokes.

More like a Sad-disco.

UPDATE: Sadiq allies get in touch to insist that at least 16 people turned up, including four girls.

London Mayor Debates Schedule

City AM have beaten the Standard to the first head-to-head Khan v Goldsmith debate of the short campaign – they will be facing off on April 12 in a showdown chaired by editor Christian May, who readers will remember for giving the LTDA a schooling on Newsnight. Tickets here. The following week the Standard have the second debate on April 21, chaired by Kirsty Wark. Will we get a repeat of Sadiq’s Alan Partridge moment?

Sadiq’s Personal Emails to Extremist Imam

Pictured above, Sadiq Khan and Suliman Gani, the radical imam at the Labour mayoral candidate’s local Tooting Islamic Centre. Gani is a known wrong ‘un, and is on the record describing women as “subservient” to men, condemning homosexuality and demanding “justice” for an al-Qaeda terrorist. Yet he is very close to Sadiq, as these personal emails obtained by Guido reveal.

In 2013, Khan wrote to Imam Gani to wish him a happy Eid:

From: KHAN, Sadiq
To: Suliman Gani
Sent: 7 Aug 2013, 19:33

Dear Imam Gani
Asalaam O Alaikum
I would like to send my warmest wishes to you and your family for Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Gani replied the following morning with a friendly warning about why Khan should still be fasting:

From: Suliman Gani
To: KHAN, Sadiq
Sent: 8 Aug 2013, 06:22

The irony is that Muslims who follow the God given commands rather than made decisions will be fasting tomorrow as the news has just come from South Africa that the only place that could possibly sight the moon in all of Africa/Asia/Europe could not sight it in clear weather – not even with binoculars and telescopes!!

Khan then replied to the radical imam minutes later apologising for failing to attend prayers at the Tooting Islamic Centre, before asking him about a moon-sighting, a Ramadan fasting convention:

From: KHAN, Sadiq
To: Suliman Gani
Sent: 8 Aug 2013, 06:28

Assalam O Alaikum,
Sorry I missed Isha at TIC last night but assumed there had been a sighting?

Until now Khan hasn’t commented on his closeness to Gani, a very unsavoury character indeed…

Khan’s Attack of the Saudi Arabian Clones

tweet list sadiq khan

Sadiq has organised annoying co-ordinated Twitter spammings before, where he lines up dozens of Labour tweeters to post the same message to their followers all at the same time. Well, he’s at it again today, though something is up. For some strange reason, a very large number of Arab gentlemen based in the Middle East have taken a keen interest in Khan’s campaign at Hither Green station this morning. Odd, since these accounts usually only tweet in Arabic. Most of them are Saudi-based, and thanks to Google translate we can see their usual musings are about things like the Riyadh restaurant industry. Either Khan’s Twitter support is bogus or the next London mayor should be looking to help the previously unknown Saudi-Hither Green commuter demographic…

Sadiq’s Dodgy Dossier Promoted Islamic Extremists

Sadiq Khan put his name to a report on radicalisation which promoted a string of Islamic extremists and hardline Islamist groups. Back in 2006, Labour’s mayoral candidate wrote the foreword for a dossier published by the Free Babar Ahmad campaign, which sought the release of the cyber-jihadi Taliban fan. The paper favourably quotes a number of known wrong-uns, including:

  • Jihadi John’s mates at CAGE
  • Moazzam Begg, who according to the US has “strong, long-term ties to terrorism — as a sympathizer, as a recruiter, as a financier and as a combatant”
  • Hizb ut-Tahrir – the radical, anti-Semitic Islamist group
  • Islamic Human Rights Commission – extreme group which organises the pro-Iran Al-Quds Day rallies

Sadiq doesn’t need Guido to tell him this looks bad, as he already has sussed that himself. He’s deleted a page on his website in which he proudly stated his involvement in the report. Handily Guido has an archived copy here.

“I have recently written a Foreword to a Report entitled A Counter-Productive Extradition Policy- The Effect of the Babar Ahmad Case in Radicalising Muslims in Britain by Khalida Yusuf. I forwarded a copy of this report to all Parliamentarians in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords.”

Why was Sadiq sharing a report promoting Islamic extremists around parliament?

Momentum Campaigning Hard For Khan

Sadiq has spent the last few months publicly distancing himself from Team Corbyn for electoral reasons, yet the actual evidence shows the opposite is true. Last weekend the far-left Corbynista group People’s Momentum held a “Khanpaigning” event in the capital, followed by a ‘Jez We Khan’ party hosted by Owen Jones and top Corbynista MP Clive Lewis.[…] Read the rest
